1 ¶ The words of King Lemuel, the prophecy with which his mother taught him.

Cuvintele regelui Lemuel – oracolul pe care l-a învăţat de la mama lui:

2 W hat, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows?

Fiule, ce să-ţi spun ? Fiul meu, ce să-ţi spun ? Ce să-ţi spun, fiul jurămintelor mele?

3 D o not give thy strength nor thy ways unto the women who destroy kings.

Nu-ţi da femeilor puterea ta şi nici căile tale celor ce distrug regii!

4 I t is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor is beer for princes

Nu se cuvine regilor, Lemuele, nu se cuvine regilor să bea vin, nici conducătorilor să dorească băuturi tari,

5 l est they drink and forget the law and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

ca nu cumva, bând, să uite Legea şi să încalce drepturile tuturor celor asupriţi.

6 G ive beer unto him that is ready to perish and wine unto those that have heavy hearts.

Daţi băuturi tari celui ce piere şi vin celui ce are viaţa amară,

7 T hey drink and forget their need and remember their misery no more.

ca să bea, să-şi uite sărăcia şi să nu-şi mai aducă aminte de necazul lui!

8 O pen thy mouth for those who cannot speak in the judgment of all the sons of death.

Deschide-ţi gura pentru cel mut, pentru drepturile tuturor celor nenorociţi!

9 O pen thy mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and destitute.

Deschide-ţi gura şi judecă corect; apără drepturile celui asuprit şi nevoiaş! Epilog: Femeia cinstită

10 ¶ Aleph Who can find a valiant woman? for her price is far above precious stones.

Femeia cinstită! Cine o poate găsi? Ea este mult mai valoroasă decât mărgăritarele.

11 B eth The heart of her husband safely trusts in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.

Inima soţului ei se încrede în ea şi nu-i va lipsi nimic de valoare.

12 G imel She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.

Ea îi face bine, nu rău, în toate zilele vieţii ei.

13 D aleth She sought wool and flax and worked willingly with her hands.

Ea caută lână şi fuior şi lucrează cu plăcere cu înseşi mâinile ei.

14 H e She was like the merchants’ ships; she brings her food from afar.

Ea este ca o corabie de negoţ; de departe îşi aduce hrana.

15 V au She rose up even at night and gave food to her family and a portion to her maidens.

Ea se scoală când este încă întuneric, dă hrană familiei sale şi ceea ce este rânduit – slujnicelor sale.

16 Z ain She considered the inheritance and bought it; with the fruit of her hands she planted a vineyard.

Ea se gândeşte la un teren şi îl cumpără; din venitul câştigat plantează o vie.

17 C heth She girded her loins with strength and strengthened her arms.

Ea se încinge cu putere şi îşi întăreşte braţele.

18 T eth She perceived that her merchandise was good; her fire did not go out by night.

Ea simte că negoţul îi merge bine şi candela ei nu se stinge noaptea.

19 J od She laid her hands to the spindle, and her hands held the distaff.

Saltă furca de tors cu mâna şi prinde fusul cu degetele ei.

20 C aph She stretched out her hand to the poor; yea, she reached forth her hands to the destitute.

Ea îşi deschide braţele pentru cel sărac şi îşi întinde mâinile către cel nevoiaş.

21 L amed She shall not be afraid of the snow for her family, for all her family is clothed with double garments.

Când ninge, ea nu se teme pentru familia ei, pentru că toată familia ei este îmbrăcată în stacojiu.

22 M em She makes herself tapestries; her clothing is of fine linen and purple.

Ea îşi face cuverturi; are haine de in subţire şi purpură.

23 N un Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land.

Soţul ei este respectat la porţile cetăţii, când stă printre bătrânii ţării.

24 S amech She made fine linen and sold it and delivered girdles unto the merchant.

Ea face haine de lână, apoi le vinde şi dă cingători negustorilor.

25 A in Strength and glory is her clothing, and she shall laugh in the last day.

Se îmbracă în putere şi demnitate şi râde de ziua de mâine.

26 P e She opened her mouth with wisdom, and the law of mercy is upon her tongue.

Vorbeşte cu înţelepciune şi învăţături plăcute sunt pe limba ei.

27 T zaddi She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat bread in idleness.

Ea veghează asupra căilor familiei sale şi nu mănâncă pâinea lenevirii.

28 K oph Her sons rose up and called her blessed; her husband also, and he praised her.

Fiii ei se ridică în picioare şi o numesc binecuvântată, cum, de altfel, şi soţul ei o laudă:

29 R esh Many daughters have done valiantly, but thou dost excel them all.

„Multe femei fac lucruri nobile, dar tu le întreci pe toate!“

30 S chin Grace is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but the woman that fears the LORD shall be praised.

Farmecul este înşelător şi frumuseţea este trecătoare, dar femeia care se teme de Domnul va fi lăudată.

31 T au Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her own works praise her in the gates.

Apreciaţi-o pentru rodul muncii ei şi faptele ei s-o laude la porţile cetăţii!
