1 ¶ Moreover, Josiah kept a passover unto the LORD in Jerusalem and they killed the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month.

Iosia a ţinut Paştele Domnului la Ierusalim. Oamenii au adus jertfa de Paşte în a paisprezecea zi a lunii întâi.

2 A nd he set the priests in their charges and confirmed them in the ministry of the house of the LORD

El a pus preoţii la slujbele lor şi i-a încurajat în ce priveşte slujba Casei Domnului.

3 a nd said unto the Levites that taught all Israel, who were holy unto the LORD, Put the holy ark in the house which Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel, built, that ye not carry it any longer upon your shoulders; serve now the LORD your God and his people Israel

El le-a zis leviţilor, care dădeau învăţătură întregului Israel şi care erau puşi deoparte pentru Domnul, următoarele: „Puneţi Chivotul cel sfânt în Casa zidită de Solomon, fiul lui David, regele lui Israel! Nu mai trebuie să-l purtaţi pe umeri! Acum, slujiţi Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, şi poporului Său, Israel.

4 a nd prepare yourselves by the houses of your fathers, after your courses, according to the writing of David, king of Israel, and according to the writing of Solomon, his son.

Aşezaţi-vă potrivit familiilor voastre şi potrivit cetelor voastre, după cum a scris David, regele lui Israel, şi după cum a scris fiul său Solomon.

5 A nd stand in the sanctuary according to the divisions of the families of the fathers of your brethren, the people, and after the division of the families of the Levites.

Ocupaţi-vă locurile în Lăcaş, câte o parte a familiei leviţilor pentru fiecare ceată a clanurilor fraţilor voştri, cei din popor.

6 S o kill the passover and sanctify yourselves and prepare your brethren, that they may do according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

Aduceţi jertfa de Paşte, sfinţiţi-vă şi pregătiţi jertfele pentru fraţii voştri, împlinind Cuvântul Domnului dat prin Moise.“

7 A nd Josiah gave to the people, of the flock, lambs and kids, all for the passover offerings, for all that were present, to the number of thirty thousand, and three thousand bullocks; these were of the king’s substance.

Iosia le-a dăruit celor din popor, tuturor celor prezenţi, miei şi iezi din turme, toţi pentru Paşte, în număr de treizeci de mii, precum şi trei mii de viţei. Toate acestea erau din averea regelui.

8 A nd his princes gave willingly unto the people, to the priests, and to the Levites. Hilkiah, Zechariah, and Jehiel, rulers of the house of God, gave unto the priests for the passover offerings two thousand six hundred sheep and three hundred oxen.

Căpeteniile regelui au oferit şi ei de bunăvoie daruri poporului, preoţilor şi leviţilor. Hilchia, Zaharia şi Iehiel, conducătorii Casei lui Dumnezeu, le-au dat preoţilor o mie şase sute de miei pentru Paşte şi trei sute de viţei.

9 C onaniah, likewise, and Shemaiah and Nethaneel, his brethren, and Hashabiah and Jeiel and Jozabad, princes of the Levites, gave unto the Levites for the sacrifices of the passover five thousand sheep, and five hundred oxen.

Conania şi rudele sale, Şemaia şi Netanel, precum şi Haşabia, Ieiel şi Iozabad, căpetenii ale leviţilor, le-au dăruit leviţilor cinci mii de miei pentru Paşte şi cinci sute de vite.

10 S o the service was prepared, and the priests stood in their place, and the Levites, likewise, in their courses, according to the king’s commandment.

Slujba a fost pregătită, preoţii şi-au ocupat locurile, iar leviţii s-au aşezat în cete, după cum poruncise regele.

11 A nd they killed the passover, and the priests sprinkled the blood taken from the hands of the Levites who flayed them.

Apoi au adus jertfa de Paşte. Preoţii au stropit sângele, luându-l de la leviţii care jupuiseră animalele.

12 A nd they took away part of the animals that they had for the burnt offerings, that they might give according to the divisions of the families of the people, for them to offer unto the LORD, as it is written in the book of Moses. And they did, likewise, with the oxen.

Au pus deoparte arderile de tot ca să poată fi oferite Domnului de către cei din popor, potrivit familiilor lor, după cum este scris în Cartea lui Moise. Tot aşa au făcut şi cu vitele.

13 A nd they roasted the passover with fire according to the ordinance, but that which had been sanctified, they cooked in pots and in caldrons and in pans and divided them speedily among all the people.

Au fript jertfa de Paşte la foc, după rânduială, iar celelalte jertfe sfinte le-au fiert în oale, cazane şi cratiţe şi le-au împărţit în grabă întregului popor.

14 A nd afterward they prepared for themselves and for the priests because the priests, the sons of Aaron, were occupied in the sacrifice of the burnt offerings and the fat until night; therefore, the Levites prepared for themselves and for the priests, the sons of Aaron.

După aceea, leviţii au pregătit ce era pentru ei şi pentru preoţi – căci preoţii, urmaşii lui Aaron, aduseseră arderile de tot şi grăsimile până seara, astfel că leviţii au trebuit să facă pregătiri de Paşte atât pentru ei, cât şi pentru preoţi, urmaşii lui Aaron.

15 L ikewise, the singers, the sons of Asaph, were in their place, according to the commandment of David and Asaph and Heman and Jeduthun, the king’s seer; and the porters waited at every gate; it was not necessary for them to depart from their ministry, for their brethren, the Levites, prepared for them.

Cântăreţii, urmaşii lui Asaf, erau la locul lor, aşa cum poruncise David, Asaf, Heman şi Iedutun, văzătorul regelui, iar portarii erau la fiecare poartă. Ei nu au trebuit să-şi întrerupă slujba, deoarece leviţii, rudele lor, au pregătit jertfa de Paşte pentru ei.

16 S o all the service of the LORD was prepared the same day, to keep the passover and to sacrifice the burnt offerings upon the altar of the LORD, according to the commandment of King Josiah.

Astfel a fost pregătită în ziua aceea întreaga slujbă a Domnului, ca să se poată sărbători Paştele şi să se poată aduce arderile de tot pe altarul Domnului, după porunca regelui Iosia.

17 A nd the sons of Israel that were present kept the passover at that time and the solemn feast of unleavened bread for seven days.

Israeliţii aflaţi atunci la Ierusalim au celebrat Paştele şi Sărbătoarea Azimelor timp de şapte zile.

18 A nd there was no passover like unto that kept in Israel from the days of Samuel, the prophet; neither did any of the kings of Israel keep such a passover as Josiah kept, and the priests and the Levites and all Judah and Israel that were present, together with all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Paşte ca acesta nu se mai sărbătorise în Israel din perioada profetului Samuel. Nici un rege al lui Israel nu a mai ţinut un Paşte ca cel ţinut de Iosia împreună cu preoţii, cu leviţii, cu toţi cei din Iuda şi cu cei din Israel care se aflau acolo alături de locuitorii Ierusalimului.

19 I n the year eighteen of the reign of Josiah, this passover was kept.

Paştele acesta a fost sărbătorit în al optsprezecelea an al domniei lui Iosia. Împrejurările morţii lui Iosia

20 ¶ After all this, when Josiah had prepared the house, Necho, king of Egypt, came up to fight against Carchemish by Euphrates; and Josiah went out against him.

După toate acestea, când Iosia pusese deja în ordine Casa, Neco, monarhul Egiptului, a înaintat pentru luptă la Carchemiş, pe Eufrat. Iosia i-a ieşit împotrivă.

21 B ut he sent ambassadors to him, saying, What have I to do with thee, thou king of Judah? I do not come against thee this day, but against the house that makes war with me, for God commanded me to make haste. Forbear from meddling with God, who is with me, that he not destroy thee.

Neco i-a trimis soli cu mesajul: „Ce am eu de-a face cu tine, rege al lui Iuda? Nu împotriva ta vin astăzi, ci împotriva unei Case cu care sunt în război, iar Dumnezeu mi-a spus să mă grăbesc. Nu te împotrivi lui Dumnezeu, Care este cu mine, ca să nu te nimicească!“

22 N evertheless, Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself, that he might fight with him, and did not hearken unto the words of Necho from the mouth of God, and came to fight him in the valley of Megiddo.

Dar Iosia nu s-a întors, ci s-a deghizat ca să înceapă lupta împotriva acestuia. El nu a ascultat cuvintele lui Neco, care veneau de la Dumnezeu, astfel că s-a dus să lupte în câmpia Meghido.

23 A nd the archers shot King Josiah, and the king said to his slaves, Take me away, for I am sore wounded.

Arcaşii l-au lovit pe regele Iosia, şi prin urmare, regele le-a zis slujitorilor săi: „Luaţi-mă, căci sunt grav rănit!“

24 H is slaves, therefore, took him out of that chariot and put him in the second chariot that he had; and they brought him to Jerusalem, and he died and was buried in the sepulchres of his fathers. And all Judah and Jerusalem mourned for Josiah.

Slujtorii lui l-au luat din carul de luptă, l-au pus într-un alt car al lui şi l-au adus la Ierusalim, unde a şi murit. L-au înmormântat în mormântul părinţilor lui şi tot poporul din Iuda şi din Ierusalim l-a bocit pe Iosia.

25 A nd Jeremiah lamented for Josiah; and all the singing men and the singing women spoke of Josiah in their lamentations to this day and made them an ordinance in Israel, which are written in the lamentations.

Ieremia a compus un cântec de jale pentru Iosia şi, până în ziua de azi, toţi cântăreţii şi cântăreţele amintesc de Iosia în cântecele lor de jale. Ele au ajuns un obicei în Israel şi s-au păstrat scrise în „Cântecele de jale“.

26 N ow the rest of the acts of Josiah and his mercy, according to that which was written in the law of the LORD,

Celelalte fapte ale lui Iosia, dovezile sale de credincioşie, făcute după cum scrie în Legea Domnului,

27 a nd his deeds, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah.

precum şi isprăvile lui sunt scrise în „Cartea regilor lui Israel şi ai lui Iuda“.
