1 ¶ And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

În anul al unsprezecelea, în prima zi a lunii a treia, Cuvântul Domnului a venit la mine şi mi-a zis:

2 S on of man, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his people. Whom art thou like in thy greatness?

„Fiul omului, spune-i lui Faraon, monarhul Egiptului, şi mulţimii sale astfel: «Cu cine poţi fi asemănat tu, în măreţia ta?

3 B ehold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches and with a shadowing shroud and of a high stature; and his top was highest among the thick boughs.

Iată că, odinioară, Asiria era un cedru în Liban, cu ramuri frumoase şi coroana aducătoare de umbră; era înalt în statură, iar vârful îi ajungea printre nori.

4 T he waters made him grow; the deep set him up on high; her rivers ran round his feet and sent her flow to all the trees of the field.

Apele îl făcuseră să crească şi adâncul îl înălţase; râurile acestuia scăldau locul în care era plantat de jur împrejur şi îşi trimiteau pâraiele la toţi copacii câmpiei.

5 T herefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of his many waters, which he sent forth.

De aceea s-a înălţat în statură mai mult decât toţi ceilalţi copaci din câmpie. Crengile i-au crescut şi ramurile i s-au lungit, din pricina belşugului de ape care-l făcuse să dea vlăstare.

6 A ll the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches all the beasts of the field brought forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt many Gentiles.

Printre crengile lui îşi făceau cuibul toate păsările cerului; sub coroana lui zămisleau toate fiarele câmpului, iar la umbra lui locuiau toate neamurile cele multe.

7 H e made himself beautiful in his greatness, with the extension of his branches: for his root was by many waters.

Era frumos prin măreţia lui şi prin lungimea ramurilor lui, căci rădăcinile lui erau înfipte în apropierea multor ape.

8 T he cedars in the garden of God did not cover him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

Cedrii din grădina lui Dumnezeu nu-l întreceau, chiparoşii nu se puteau compara cu crengile lui, iar platanii nu se puteau asemăna cu ramurile lui; nici un copac din grădina lui Dumnezeu nu se putea compara cu el în frumuseţe.

9 I have made him beautiful with the multitude of his branches: and all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

L-am făcut atât de frumos prin mulţimea crengilor lui, încât îl invidiau toţi copacii Edenului, toţi copacii din grădina lui Dumnezeu.»

10 ¶ Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he has shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

De aceea, aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: «Pentru că se înălţa în statură, pentru că îşi ridica vârful până la nori şi inima i se mândrea cu înălţimea lui,

11 I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the strong one of the Gentiles; he shall surely deal with him; I have cut him down for his wickedness.

l-am dat pe mâna prinţului neamurilor, care i-a făcut după răutatea lui. Eu l-am lepădat

12 A nd strangers, the strong ones of the Gentiles, shall cut him down and shall leave him; his branches shall fall upon the mountains and by all the valleys, and his boughs shall be broken by all the rivers of the land; and all the peoples of the earth shall go forth from his shadow and shall leave him.

şi astfel cele mai înspăimântătoare dintre neamurile străine l-au tăiat şi l-au părăsit. Crengile i-au căzut pe munţi şi prin toate văile, iar ramurile i-au fost spulberate prin toate albiile ţării. Toate popoarele pământului au plecat de la umbra lui şi l-au părăsit.

13 U pon his ruin shall all the fowls of the heaven remain, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches:

Pe trunchiul lui căzut şi-au făcut cuibul toate păsările cerului, iar între crengile lui s-au aşezat toate fiarele câmpului.

14 t o the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves for their height, neither shoot up their tops among the thick boughs, neither in their branches shall all that drink waters stand up in their height: for they shall all be delivered unto death, to the lower parts of the earth, in the midst of the sons of men, with those that go down to the grave.

Toate acestea, pentru ca nici unul dintre copacii de lângă ape să nu se mai mândrească cu înălţimea lui şi să nu-şi mai ridice vârful până la nori şi pentru ca nici un copac udat de ape să nu-şi mai înalţe trunchiul spre ei. Căci toţi sunt sortiţi morţii, în tărâmul de jos, printre muritori, la cei ce s-au coborât în groapă.»

15 T hus said the Lord GOD; In the day when he went down to Sheol I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the floods thereof, and the many waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted.

Aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: «În ziua în care s-a coborât în Locuinţa Morţilor, am răspândit jalea. L-am acoperit cu adâncul şi i-am retras râurile, iar apele cele multe au fost oprite. Am întunecat Libanul pentru el şi toţi copacii câmpiei s-au uscat din pricina lui.

16 I made the Gentiles to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to Sheol with those that descend into the pit: and all the choice trees of Eden, and the best of Lebanon, all that drink waters, shall be comforted in the lower parts of the earth.

La vuietul căderii sale am făcut să se cutremure neamurile, când l-am coborât în Locuinţa Morţilor împreună cu cei ce se coboară în groapă. Atunci toţi copacii Edenului, ce avea Libanul mai bun şi mai ales, toţi copaci bine udaţi, s-au consolat în tărâmul de jos.

17 T hey also went down into Sheol with him, with those that were slain with the sword; and those that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the Gentiles.

S-au coborât şi ei împreună cu el în Locuinţa Morţilor, la cei răpuşi de sabie, ei care erau aliaţii lui şi locuiau la umbra lui printre neamuri.

18 T o whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? Yet thou shalt be cut down with the trees of Eden unto the lower parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised with those that are slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his people, said the Lord GOD.

Aşadar, Faraon, cu cine poţi fi asemănat tu printre copacii Edenului, în toată slava şi măreţia ta? Şi totuşi vei fi coborât împreună cu copacii Edenului în tărâmul de jos şi vei zăcea printre cei necircumcişi, alături de cei răpuşi de sabie. Iată ce este Faraon şi toată mulţimea lui, zice Stăpânul Domn. »“
