1 ¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

Un fiu înţelept acceptă disciplinarea tatălui său, dar cel batjocoritor nu ascultă mustrarea.

2 ¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

Prin rodul gurii te bucuri de bunătăţi, dar dorinţa celor necredincioşi este violenţa.

3 ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

Cine îşi păzeşte gura îşi păzeşte viaţa, dar cine se pripeşte în vorbire se ruinează.

4 ¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

Leneşul doreşte mult şi nu are nimic, dar dorinţa celor harnici este satisfăcută.

5 ¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.

Cel drept urăşte ceea ce este fals, dar cel rău îşi aduce dezonoare şi ruşine.

6 ¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

Dreptatea îl protejează pe cel integru, dar răutatea îl doboară pe cel păcătos.

7 ¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

Unul pretinde că este bogat şi n-are nimic; altul pretinde că este sărac şi are mari bogăţii.

8 ¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.

Bogăţia omului îi poate răscumpăra viaţa, dar săracul nu ascultă ameninţarea.

9 ¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

Lumina celor drepţi străluceşte veselă, dar candela celor răi se stinge.

10 ¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

Mândria dă naştere doar la certuri, dar înţelepciunea se găseşte la cei ce primesc sfaturile.

11 ¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

Bogăţia câştigată fără trudă va scădea, dar cel ce strânge prin muncă se va îmbogăţi.

12 ¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

O speranţă amânată îmbolnăveşte inima, dar o dorinţă împlinită este un pom de viaţă.

13 ¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

Cine dispreţuieşte învăţătura va suferi pedeapsa, dar cine se teme de poruncă va fi răsplătit.

14 ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Învăţătura înţeleptului este un izvor de viaţă, îndepărtând pe om de la cursele morţii.

15 ¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

O minte sănătoasă câştigă bunăvoinţă, dar calea celor necredincioşi duce la ruină.

16 ¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

Orice om prudent lucrează cu cunoştinţă, dar cel prost îşi dă la iveală prostia.

17 ¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

Un mesager rău cade în nenorocire, dar un sol credincios aduce vindecare.

18 ¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

Cine ignoră mustrarea merge spre sărăcie şi ruşine, dar cine ia seama la corectare va fi respectat.

19 ¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

O dorinţă împlinită este dulce sufletului, dar pentru cei proşti este o urâciune să se depărteze de rău.

20 ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Cine umblă cu înţelepţii va deveni înţelept, dar cine se asociază cu proştii va avea de suferit.

21 ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

Nenorocirea îi urmăreşte pe cei păcătoşi, dar cei drepţi sunt răsplătiţi cu fericire.

22 ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Omul bun lasă moştenire nepoţilor săi, dar bogăţiile păcătosului sunt păstrate pentru cel drept.

23 ¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

Ogorul omului sărac produce hrană din belşug, dar aceasta este distrusă datorită nedreptăţii.

24 ¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

Cine cruţă nuiaua îşi urăşte fiul, dar cine-l iubeşte are grijă să-l disciplineze.

25 ¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.

Cel drept mănâncă până se satură, dar stomacul celor răi va duce lipsă.
