1 ¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

¶ El hijo sabio toma el castigo del padre; mas el burlador no escucha la reprensión.

2 ¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

¶ Del fruto de su boca el hombre comerá bien; mas el alma de los prevaricadores morirá de hambre.

3 ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

¶ El que guarda su boca guarda su alma; mas el que mucho abre sus labios tendrá calamidad.

4 ¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

¶ El alma del perezoso desea, y nada alcanza; mas el alma de los diligentes será engordada.

5 ¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.

¶ El justo aborrece la palabra de mentira; mas el impío se hace odioso y abominable.

6 ¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

¶ La justicia guarda al de perfecto camino; mas la impiedad trastornará al pecador.

7 ¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

¶ Hay quienes se hacen ricos, y no tienen nada; y hay quienes se hacen pobres, y tienen muchas riquezas.

8 ¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.

¶ El rescate de la vida del hombre son sus riquezas; pero el pobre no oye censuras.

9 ¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

¶ La luz de los justos se alegrará; mas se apagará la lámpara de los impíos.

10 ¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

¶ Ciertamente la soberbia dará a luz contienda; mas con los avisados es la sabiduría.

11 ¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

¶ Las riquezas de vanidad disminuirán; pero el que recoge trabajando las aumentará.

12 ¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

¶ La esperanza que se prolonga, es tormento del corazón; mas árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.

13 ¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

¶ El que menosprecia la palabra, perecerá por ello; mas el que teme el mandamiento, será recompensado.

14 ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

¶ La ley al sabio es manantial de vida, para apartarse de los lazos de la muerte.

15 ¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

¶ El buen entendimiento conciliará gracia; mas el camino de los prevaricadores es duro.

16 ¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

¶ Todo hombre cuerdo obra con sabiduría; mas el loco manifestará su locura.

17 ¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

¶ El mal mensajero caerá en mal; mas el mensajero fiel es medicina.

18 ¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

¶ Pobreza y vergüenza tendrá el que menosprecia el castigo; mas el que guarda la corrección, será honrado.

19 ¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

¶ El deseo cumplido deleita el alma; pero apartarse del mal es abominación a los locos.

20 ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

¶ El que anda con los sabios, sabio será; mas el que se allega a los locos, será destruido.

21 ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

¶ Mal perseguirá a los pecadores; mas a los justos les será retribuido bien.

22 ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

¶ El bueno dejará herencia a los hijos de los hijos; y el haber del pecador, para el justo está guardado.

23 ¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

¶ En el barbecho de los pobres hay mucho pan; mas se pierde por falta de juicio.

24 ¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

¶ El que detiene el castigo, a su hijo aborrece; mas el que lo ama, madruga a castigarlo.

25 ¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.

¶ El justo come hasta saciar su alma; mas el vientre de los impíos tendrá necesidad.
