1 ¶ Follow after charity and earnestly pursue spiritual gifts, but above all, that ye may prophesy.

¶ Seguid la caridad; y procurad dones espirituales, mas sobre todo que profeticéis.

2 F or he that speaks in an unknown tongue speaks not unto men, but unto God, for no one understands him, even though by the Spirit he speaks mysteries.

Porque el que habla en lenguas, no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios; porque nadie le entiende, aunque por el Espíritu hable misterios.

3 B ut he that prophesies speaks unto men for edification and exhortation and comfort.

Mas el que profetiza, habla a los hombres para edificación, y exhortación, y consolación.

4 H e that speaks in an unknown tongue edifies himself, but he that prophesies edifies the congregation.

El que habla lengua extraña, a sí mismo se edifica; mas el que profetiza, edifica a la Iglesia (de Dios).

5 I would that ye all spoke with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied, for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, unless he interprets, that the congregation may receive edifying.

Así que, quisiera que todos vosotros hablaseis lenguas, pero quisiera más que profetizaceis, porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla lenguas, a no ser que interpretare, para que la Iglesia tome edificación.

6 ¶ Now, brothers, if I come unto you speaking with tongues, what shall I profit you unless I speak to you either with revelation or with knowledge or with prophecy or with doctrine?

¶ Ahora pues, hermanos, si yo fuere a vosotros hablando lenguas, ¿qué os aprovechará, si no os hablare, o con revelación, o con ciencia, o con profecía, o con doctrina?

7 A nd even things without life giving sound, whether flute or harp, except they give a distinction in the sounds, how shall it be known what is played or harped?

Ciertamente las cosas inanimadas que hacen sonidos, como la flauta o la vihuela, si no dieren distinción de voces, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se tañe con la flauta, o con la vihuela?

8 F or if the trumpet gives an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle?

Y si la trompeta diere sonido incierto, ¿quién se apercibirá a la batalla?

9 S o likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue a clear and definite word, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.

Así también vosotros, si por la lengua no diereis palabra bien significativa, ¿cómo se entenderá lo que se dice? Porque hablaréis al aire.

10 T here are many kinds of distinct voices in the world, and nothing is dumb.

Tantos géneros de voces, por ejemplo, hay en el mundo, y nada hay mudo;

11 T herefore, if I ignore the virtue of the voice, I shall be unto him that speaks as a barbarian, and he that speaks shall be a barbarian unto me.

mas si yo ignorare la virtud de la voz, seré bárbaro al que habla, y el que habla será bárbaro para mí.

12 E ven so ye, forasmuch as ye desire the things of the Spirit, earnestly pursue excellence unto the edification of the congregation.

Así también vosotros; pues que anheláis las cosas del Espíritu, procurad ser excelentes para la edificación de la Iglesia.

13 T herefore, let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

Por lo cual, el que habla lengua extraña, ore que la interprete.

14 F or if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.

Porque si yo orare en lengua desconocida, mi espíritu ora; mas mi entendimiento es sin fruto.

15 ¶ What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.

¶ ¿Qué pues? Oraré con el espíritu, mas oraré también con entendimiento; cantaré con el espíritu, mas cantaré también con entendimiento.

16 E lse when thou shalt bless with the spirit, how shall he that occupies the place of the ignorant say, Amen, at thy giving of thanks, seeing he understands not what thou sayest?

Porque si bendijeres con el espíritu, el que ocupa lugar de ignorante ¿cómo dirá amén a tu acción de gracias? Pues no sabe lo que has dicho.

17 F or thou verily givest thanks well, but the other is not edified.

Porque tú, a la verdad, bien haces acción de gracias; mas el otro no es edificado.

18 I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all;

Doy gracias a mi Dios que hablo lenguas más que todos vosotros;

19 y et in the congregation I would rather speak five words with my understanding, that I might teach others also, than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.

pero en la Iglesia quiero más hablar cinco palabras con mi sentido, para que enseñe también a los otros, que diez mil palabras en lengua desconocida.

20 B rothers, be not children in understanding, howbeit in malice be ye children; but in understanding be perfect.

Hermanos, no seáis niños en el sentido, sino sed niños en la malicia; pero perfectos en el sentido.

21 ¶ In the law it is written, In other tongues and with other lips I will speak unto this people; and yet for all that, they will not hear me, saith the Lord.

¶ En la ley está escrito: Que en otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré a este pueblo; y ni aun así me oirán, dice el Señor.

22 T herefore, tongues are for a sign, not to those that believe, but to those that do not believe; but prophecy is not for those that do not believe, but for those who believe.

Así que, las lenguas son por señal, no a los fieles, sino a los incrédulos; mas la profecía, no se da a los incrédulos, sino a los fieles.

23 I f, therefore, the whole congregation is come together into one place and all speak with tongues, and there come in those that are unlearned or unbelievers, will they not say that ye are mad?

De manera que, si toda la Iglesia se juntare en uno, y todos hablan lenguas, y entran indoctos o incrédulos, ¿no dirán que estáis locos?

24 B ut if all prophesy, and there come in one that does not believe or one unlearned, he is convinced of all, he is judged of all;

Mas si todos profetizan, y entra algún incrédulo o indocto, de todos es convencido, de todos es juzgado;

25 f or the secrets of his heart are made manifest; and so falling down on his face, he will worship God, declaring that God is indeed in you.

porque lo oculto de su corazón se hace manifiesto; y así, postrándose sobre el rostro, adorará a Dios, declarando que verdaderamente Dios está en vosotros.

26 ¶ How is it then, brothers? when ye come together, each one of you has a psalm, has doctrine, has tongues, has revelation, has interpretation. Let all things be done unto edification.

¶ ¿Qué hay pues, hermanos? Cuando os juntáis, cada uno de vosotros tiene salmo, tiene doctrina, tiene lengua, tiene revelación, tiene interpretación; hágase todo para edificación.

27 I f anyone speaks in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.

Si hablare alguno en lengua extraña, sea esto por dos, o a lo más tres, y por turno; mas uno interprete.

28 B ut if there is no interpreter, let him keep silence in the congregation, and let him speak to himself and to God.

Y si no hubiere intérprete, calle en la Iglesia, y hable a sí mismo y a Dios.

29 L et the prophets speak two or three, and let the others judge.

Asimismo, los profetas hablen dos o tres, y los demás juzguen.

30 I f any thing is revealed to another that sits by, let the first be silent.

Y si a otro que estuviere sentado, fuere revelado, calle el primero.

31 F or ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be exhorted.

Porque podéis todos profetizar uno por uno, para que todos aprendan, y todos sean exhortados.

32 A nd the spirits of the prophets are subject to the prophets.

Y los espíritus de los que profetizaren, son sujetos a los profetas;

33 F or God is not the God of disorder, but of peace, as in all the congregations of the saints.

(porque Dios no es Dios de desorden, sino de paz) como en todas las iglesias de los santos.

34 ¶ Let your women keep silence in the congregations, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law.

¶ (Vuestras) mujeres callen en las congregaciones; porque no les es permitido hablar, sino que estén sujetas, como también la ley lo dice.

35 A nd if they desire to learn anything, let them ask their husbands at home, for it is a dishonest thing for women to speak in the congregation.

Y si quieren aprender alguna cosa, pregunten en casa a sus maridos; porque deshonesta cosa es hablar las mujeres en la congregación.

36 ¶ What? Did the word of God come out from you? or did it come unto you only?

¶ ¿O ha salido de vosotros la palabra de Dios? ¿O a vosotros solos ha llegado?

37 I f anyone thinks himself to be a prophet or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord.

Si alguno, a su parecer, es profeta, o espiritual, reconozca lo que os escribo, porque son mandamientos del Señor.

38 B ut anyone that ignores them shall be ignored.

Mas el que ignore, será ignorado.

39 T herefore, brothers, earnestly pursue prophecy and do not forbid to speak with tongues.

Así que, hermanos, procurad profetizar; y no impidáis el hablar lenguas.

40 B ut let all things be done decently and in order.

Pero hágase todo decentemente y con orden.
