1 ¶ Josiah was eight years old when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem thirty-one years.

De ocho años era Josías cuando comenzó a reinar, y treinta y un años reinó en Jerusalén.

2 A nd he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD and walked in the ways of David, his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left.

Este hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y anduvo en los caminos de David su padre, sin apartarse a la diestra ni a la siniestra.

3 F or in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David, his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places and the groves and the graven images and the molten images.

A los ocho años de su reinado, siendo aún joven, comenzó a buscar al Dios de David su padre; y a los doce años comenzó a limpiar a Judá y a Jerusalén de los lugares altos, bosques, esculturas, e imágenes de fundición.

4 A nd they broke down the altars of the Baalim in his presence; and the images of the sun, that were on high above them, he cut down; and the groves and the graven images and the molten images, he broke in pieces and made dust of them and scattered it upon the graves of those that had sacrificed unto them.

Y derribaron delante de él los altares de los Baales, e hizo pedazos las imágenes del sol, que estaban puestas encima; y los bosques, y las esculturas e imágenes de fundición, quebró y desmenuzó, y esparció el polvo sobre los sepulcros de los que habían sacrificado a ellos.

5 A nd he burnt the bones of the priests upon their altars and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.

Asimismo quemó los huesos de los sacerdotes sobre sus altares, y limpió a Judá y a Jerusalén.

6 H e did the same in the cities of Manasseh, Ephraim and Simeon, even unto Naphtali, with their swords round about.

Lo mismo hizo en las ciudades de Manasés, Efraín, y Simeón, hasta en Neftalí, con sus espadas alrededor.

7 A nd when he had broken down the altars and the groves and had beaten the graven images into powder and cut down all the idols of the sun throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.

Y cuando hubo derribado los altares y los bosques, y quebrado y desmenuzado las esculturas, y destruido todos los ídolos del sol por toda la tierra de Israel, se volvió a Jerusalén.

8 ¶ Now in the eighteenth year of his reign, when he had purged the land and the house, he sent Shaphan, the son of Azaliah, and Maaseiah the governor of the city, and Joah, the son of Joahaz, the writer of chronicles, to repair the house of the LORD his God.

A los dieciocho años de su reinado, después de haber limpiado la tierra, y la Casa, envió a Safán hijo de Azalía, y a Maasías gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joa hijo de Joacaz, escritor de crónicas, para que repararan la Casa del SEÑOR su Dios.

9 A nd they went to Hilkiah, the high priest, and delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites that kept the doors had gathered of the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim and of all the remnant of Israel and of all Judah and Benjamin, having then returned to Jerusalem.

Los cuales vinieron a Hilcías, sumo sacerdote, y dieron el dinero que había sido traído a la Casa del SEÑOR, que los levitas que guardaban la puerta habían recogido de mano de Manasés y de Efraín y de todo el remanente de Israel, y de todo Judá y Benjamín, habiéndose después vuelto a Jerusalén.

10 A nd they put it in the hand of those that did the work, that had the oversight of the house of the LORD, and they gave it to the workmen that wrought in the house of the LORD, to repair and restore the house.

Y le entregaron en mano de los que hacían la obra, que eran sobrestantes en la Casa del SEÑOR; los cuales lo daban a los que hacían la obra y trabajaban en la Casa del SEÑOR, para reparar y restaurar la Casa.

11 T hey also gave to the craftsmen and builders, to buy hewn stone, and timber for couplings, and for the woodwork of the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.

Y dieron también a los oficiales y albañiles para que compraran piedra de cantería, y madera para los trabazones, y para la entabladura de las Casas, las cuales habían destruido los reyes de Judá.

12 A nd the men did the work faithfully, and the overseers of them were Jahath and Obadiah, the Levites, of the sons of Merari; and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of Kohath, to set it forward; and others of the Levites, all those with understanding in instruments of music.

Y estos varones trabajaban con fidelidad en la obra; y eran sus gobernadores Jahat y Abdías, levitas de los hijos de Merari; y Zacarías y Mesulam de los hijos de Coat, para que activaran la obra; y de los levitas, todos los entendidos en instrumentos de música.

13 A lso they were over the bearers of burdens and were overseers of all that wrought the work in any manner of service; and of the Levites there were scribes, and officers, and porters.

También velaban sobre los cargadores, y eran sobrestantes de los que se ocupaban en cualquier clase de obra; y de los levitas había escribas, gobernadores, y porteros.

14 ¶ And when they brought out the money that had been brought into the house of the LORD, Hilkiah, the priest, found the book of the law of the LORD given by the hand of Moses.

¶ Y cuando sacaron el dinero que había sido metido en la Casa del SEÑOR, Hilcías el sacerdote halló el libro de la ley del SEÑOR dada por mano de Moisés.

15 A nd Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan, the scribe, I have found the book of the law in the house of the LORD. And Hilkiah delivered the book to Shaphan.

Y respondiendo Hilcías, dijo a Safán escriba: Yo he hallado el libro de la ley en la Casa del SEÑOR. Y dio Hilcías el libro a Safán.

16 A nd Shaphan carried the book to the king and brought the king word back again, saying, Thy slaves have fulfilled all that was committed unto them to do.

Y Safán lo llevó al rey, y le contó el negocio, diciendo: Tus siervos han cumplido todo lo que les fue encomendado.

17 A nd they have gathered together the money that was found in the house of the LORD and have delivered it into the hand of those who were commissioned and to the hand of the workmen.

Han tomado el dinero que se halló en la Casa del SEÑOR, y lo han entregado en mano de los comisionados, y en mano de los que hacen la obra.

18 T hen Shaphan, the scribe, told the king, saying, Hilkiah the priest, has given me a book. And Shaphan read in it before the king.

A más de esto, declaró Safán escriba al rey, diciendo: El sacerdote Hilcías me dio un libro. Y leyó Safán en él delante del rey.

19 A nd when the king heard the words of the law, he rent his clothes.

Y cuando el rey oyó las palabras de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos;

20 A nd the king commanded Hilkiah and Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, and Abdon, the son of Micah, and Shaphan, the scribe, and Asaiah, a slave of the king’s, saying,

y el rey mandó a Hilcías y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, y a Abdón hijo de Micaía, y a Safán escriba, y a Asaías siervo del rey, diciendo:

21 G o, enquire of the LORD for me and for the remnant of Israel and of Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found, for great is the wrath of the LORD that is poured out upon us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the LORD, to do according to all the things that are written in this book.

Andad, y consultad al SEÑOR de mí, y del remanente de Israel y de Judá, acerca de las palabras del libro que se ha hallado; porque grande es el furor del SEÑOR que ha caído sobre nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no guardaron la palabra del SEÑOR, para hacer conforme a todas las cosas que está escrito en este libro.

22 T hen Hilkiah and those of the king went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum, the son of Tikvath, the son of Hasrah, keeper of the wardrobe (now she dwelt in Jerusalem in the house of doctrine); and they spoke to her to that effect.

Entonces Hilcías y los del rey fueron a Hulda, la profetisa, mujer de Salum, hijo de Ticva, hijo de Harhas, guarda de las vestimentas, la cual moraba en Jerusalén en la Casa de la doctrina; y le dijeron las palabras dichas.

23 A nd she answered them, The LORD God of Israel hath said thus, Tell the man that sent you to me,

Y ella respondió: El SEÑOR Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Decid al varón que os ha enviado a mí, que así ha dicho el SEÑOR:

24 t hat thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I will bring evil upon this place and upon its inhabitants all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah

He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él, todas las maldiciones que están escritas en el libro que leyeron delante del rey de Judá;

25 b ecause they have forsaken me and have sacrificed unto other gods, provoking me to anger with all the works of their hands; therefore, my wrath shall be poured out upon this place and shall not be quenched.

por cuanto me han dejado, y han sacrificado a dioses ajenos, provocándome a ira en todas las obras de sus manos; por tanto mi furor lloverá sobre este lugar, y no se apagará.

26 B ut as for the king of Judah, who sent you to enquire of the LORD, so shall ye say unto him, Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, Because thou hast heard the words of the book,

Mas al rey de Judá, que os ha enviado a consultar al SEÑOR, así le diréis: El SEÑOR Dios de Israel ha dicho así: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,

27 a nd thy heart became tender, and thou didst humble thyself before God, hearing his words against this place and against its inhabitants and didst humble thyself before me and didst rend thy clothes, and weep before me, I also have heard thee, saith the LORD.

y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante de Dios oyendo sus palabras sobre este lugar, y sobre sus moradores; y te humillaste delante de mí, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, yo también te he oído, dice el SEÑOR.

28 B ehold, I will gather thee to thy fathers, and thou shalt be gathered to thy grave in peace; neither shall thy eyes see all the evil that I will bring upon this place and upon the inhabitants of the same. So they brought the king word again.

He aquí que yo te recogeré con tus padres, y serás recogido en tus sepulcros en paz; y tus ojos no verán todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar, y sobre los moradores de él. Y ellos recitaron al rey la respuesta.

29 ¶ Then the king sent and gathered together all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

¶ Entonces el rey envió y juntó a todos los ancianos de Judá y de Jerusalén.

30 A nd the king went up into the house of the LORD, and with him all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem and the priests and the Levites and all the people, great and small; and he read in their ears all the words of the book of the covenant that was found in the house of the LORD.

Y subió el rey a la Casa del SEÑOR, y con él todos los varones de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén, y los sacerdotes, y los levitas, y todo el pueblo desde el mayor hasta el más pequeño; y leyó a oídos de ellos todas las palabras del libro del pacto que había sido hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR.

31 A nd the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the LORD, to walk after the LORD, and that they would keep his commandments and his testimonies and his statutes with all their heart and with all their soul to perform the words of the covenant which are written in this book.

Y estando el rey en pie en su sitio, hizo pacto delante del SEÑOR, que andaría en pos del SEÑOR, y que guardarían sus mandamientos, sus testimonios, y sus estatutos, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma, cumpliendo las palabras del pacto que estaban escritas en aquel libro.

32 A nd he caused all that were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin to stand to it. And the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.

E hizo que consintieran todos los que estaban en Jerusalén y en Benjamín; y así hicieron los moradores de Jerusalén conforme al pacto de Dios, del Dios de sus padres.

33 A nd Josiah took away all the abominations out of all the lands that pertained to the sons of Israel and made all that were present in Israel serve the LORD their God only. And all his days they did not depart from following the LORD, the God of their fathers.

Y quitó Josías todas las abominaciones de todas las tierras de los hijos de Israel; e hizo a todos los que se hallaron en Israel que sirvieran solamente al SEÑOR su Dios. No se apartaron de en pos del SEÑOR Dios de sus padres, todo el tiempo que él vivió.
