1 ¶ Then Pilate, therefore, took Jesus and scourged him.

¶ Así que, entonces tomó Pilato a Jesús, y le azotó.

2 A nd the soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and they put a purple robe on him

Y los soldados entretejieron de espinas una corona, y la pusieron sobre su cabeza, y le vistieron de una ropa de grana;

3 a nd said, Hail, King of the Jews! and they smote him with their hands.

y (venían a él y) decían: ¡Hayas gozo, rey de los Judíos! Y le daban de bofetadas.

4 P ilate therefore went forth again and said unto them, Behold, I bring him forth to you, that ye may know that I find no fault in him.

Entonces Pilato salió otra vez fuera, y les dijo: He aquí, os lo traigo fuera, para que entendáis que ningún crimen hallo en él.

5 T hen Jesus came forth, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said unto them, Behold the man!

Así salió Jesús fuera, llevando la corona de espinas y la ropa de grana. Y les dice Pilato: He aquí el hombre.

6 W hen the princes of the priests and the servants saw him, they cried out, saying, crucify him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Take him, and crucify him, for I find no fault in him.

Y como le vieron los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los servidores, dieron voces diciendo: Cuélguenle de un madero, cuélguenle de un madero. Les dice Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y colgadle del madero; porque yo no hallo en él crimen.

7 T he Jews answered him, We have a law, and by our law he ought to die because he made himself the Son of God.

Le respondieron los judíos: Nosotros tenemos ley, y según nuestra ley debe morir, porque se hizo Hijo de Dios.

8 T herefore when Pilate heard that word, he was the more afraid

Cuando Pilato oyó esta palabra, tuvo más miedo.

9 a nd went again into the judgment hall and said unto Jesus, Where art thou from? But Jesus gave him no answer.

Y entró otra vez en el pretorio, y dijo a Jesús: ¿De dónde eres tú? Mas Jesús no le dio respuesta.

10 T hen Pilate said unto him, Speakest thou not unto me? knowest thou not that I have power to crucify thee and have power to release thee?

Entonces le dice Pilato: ¿A mí no me hablas? ¿No sabes que tengo potestad para colgarte de un madero, y que tengo potestad para soltarte?

11 J esus answered, Thou could have no power at all against me, unless it were given thee from above; therefore he that delivered me unto thee has the greater sin.

Respondió Jesús: Ninguna potestad tendrías contra mí, si no te fuera dada de arriba; por tanto, el que a ti me ha entregado, mayor pecado tiene.

12 A nd from then on Pilate sought to release him, but the Jews cried out, saying, If thou let this man go, thou art not Caesar’s friend; whosoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.

Desde entonces procuraba Pilato soltarle; mas los Judíos daban voces, diciendo: Si a éste sueltas, no eres amigo de César; cualquiera que se hace rey, a César contradice.

13 T herefore when Pilate heard that word, he brought Jesus forth and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called the Pavement, but in the Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Entonces Pilato, oyendo este dicho, llevó fuera a Jesús, y se sentó en el tribunal en el lugar que se dice el Enlosado, y en hebreo Gábata.

14 A nd it was the preparation of the passover and about the sixth hour; then he said unto the Jews, Behold your King!

Y era la víspera de la Pascua, y como la hora sexta. Entonces dijo a los Judíos: He aquí vuestro Rey.

15 B ut they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate said unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The high priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

Pero ellos dieron voces: Quita, quita, cuélguenle de un madero. Les dice Pilato: ¿A vuestro Rey he de colgar de un madero? Respondieron los sumos sacerdotes: No tenemos rey sino a César.

16 ¶ So that then, he delivered him unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus and led him away.

¶ Así que entonces lo entregó a ellos para que fuera colgado de un madero. Y tomaron a Jesús, y le llevaron.

17 A nd he, bearing his cross, went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew, Golgotha,

Y llevando el madero para sí, vino al lugar que se dice de la Calavera, y en hebreo, Gólgota;

18 w here they crucified him and two others with him, one on either side and Jesus in the middle.

donde le colgaron del madero, y con él otros dos, uno en un madero a cada lado, y Jesús en medio.

19 ¶ And Pilate also wrote a title and put it above the cross. And the writing was, JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS.

¶ Y escribió también Pilato un título, que puso encima del madero. Y el escrito era: JESÚS NAZARENO, REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

20 A nd many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near to the city; and it was written in Hebrew and Greek and Latin.

Y muchos de los Judíos leyeron este título, porque el lugar donde estaba Jesús colgado del madero era cerca de la ciudad; y estaba escrito en hebreo, en griego, y en latín.

21 T hen the high priests of the Jews said to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews, but that he said, I AM King of the Jews.

Y decían a Pilato los sumos sacerdotes de los judíos: No escribas, Rey de los Judíos; sino, que él dijo: YO SOY Rey de los Judíos.

22 P ilate answered, What I have written I have written.

Respondió Pilato: Lo que he escrito, he escrito.

23 T hen the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments and made four parts (to each soldier a part); and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout.

Cuando los soldados hubieron colgado a Jesús del madero, tomaron sus vestidos, e hicieron cuatro partes (a cada soldado una parte); y la túnica; mas la túnica era sin costura, toda tejida desde arriba.

24 T hey said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be; that the scripture might be fulfilled, which says, They parted my garments among them, and for my raiment they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did.

Y dijeron entre ellos: No la partamos, sino echemos suertes sobre ella, de quién será; para que se cumpliera la Escritura, que dice: Partieron para sí mis vestidos, Y sobre mi vestidura echaron suertes. Y los soldados ciertamente hicieron esto.

25 N ow there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene.

Y estaban junto al madero de Jesús su madre, y la hermana de su madre, María mujer de Cleofas, y María Magdalena.

26 W hen Jesus therefore saw his mother and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he said unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

Y como vio Jesús a la madre, y al discípulo que él amaba, que estaba presente, dice a su madre: Mujer, he ahí tu hijo.

27 T hen he said to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Después dice al discípulo: He ahí tu madre. Y desde aquella hora el discípulo la recibió consigo.

28 A fter this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, said, I thirst.

Después de esto, sabiendo Jesús que todas las cosas eran ya cumplidas, para que la Escritura se cumpliera, dijo: Sed tengo.

29 N ow there was set a vessel full of vinegar, and they filled a sponge with vinegar and put it upon hyssop and put it to his mouth.

Y estaba allí un vaso lleno de vinagre; entonces ellos mojaron una esponja de vinagre, y rodeada a un hisopo, se la llegaron a la boca.

30 W hen Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished, and he bowed his head and gave the Spirit.

Cuando Jesús tomó el vinagre, dijo: Consumado es. Y habiendo inclinado la cabeza, dio el Espíritu.

31 ¶ The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day (for that sabbath day was a high day) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.

¶ Entonces los Judíos, para que los cuerpos no quedaran en el madero en el sábado, porque era la víspera de la Pascua, pues era el gran día del sábado, rogaron a Pilato que se les quebraran las piernas, y fueran quitados.

32 T hen the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who were crucified with him.

Y vinieron los soldados, y a la verdad quebraron las piernas al primero, y al otro que había sido colgado de un madero con él.

33 B ut when they came to Jesus and saw that he was dead already, they did not break his legs,

Mas cuando vinieron a Jesús, como le vieron ya muerto, no le quebraron las piernas;

34 b ut one of the soldiers with a spear pierced his side, and forthwith blood and water came out.

pero uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con una lanza, y luego salió sangre y agua.

35 A nd he that saw it gives testimony, and his testimony is true, and he knows that he says the truth, that ye also might believe.

Y el que lo vio, da testimonio, y su testimonio es verdadero; y él sabe que dice verdad, para que vosotros también creáis.

36 F or these things were done that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.

Porque estas cosas fueron hechas para que se cumpliera la Escritura: Hueso no quebrantaréis de él.

37 A nd again another scripture says, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

Y también otra Escritura dice: Verán a aquel al cual traspasaron.

38 ¶ After these things, Joseph of Arimathaea, being a disciple of Jesus but secretly for fear of the Jews, besought Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore and took the body of Jesus.

¶ Pasadas estas cosas, José de Arimatea, el cual era discípulo de Jesús, mas en secreto por miedo de los judíos, rogó a Pilato que pudiera quitar el cuerpo de Jesús; lo cual permitió Pilato. Entonces vino, y quitó el cuerpo de Jesús.

39 T hen Nicodemus came also, who at the first came to Jesus by night, and brought a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about one hundred pounds.

Entonces vino también Nicodemo, el que antes había venido a Jesús de noche, trayendo un compuesto de mirra y de áloes, como cien libras.

40 A nd they took the body of Jesus and wound it in linen clothes with the spices, as is the manner of the Jews to bury.

Y tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús, y lo envolvieron en lienzos con especias, como es costumbre de los judíos sepultar.

41 N ow in the place where he was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new sepulchre, in which no one had yet been laid.

Y en aquel lugar donde había sido colgado del madero, había un huerto; y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo, en el cual aún no había sido puesto ninguno.

42 T herefore they laid Jesus there because of the Jews’ preparation day, for the sepulchre was near.

Allí, pues, por causa de la víspera de la Pascua de los judíos, porque aquel sepulcro estaba cerca, pusieron a Jesús.
