1 ¶ Now in the twelfth month, that is, the month Adar, on the thirteenth day of the same, when the king’s commandment and his law drew near to be put in execution, in the day that the enemies of the Jews hoped to have power over them, it was turned to the contrary; for the Jews took dominion over those that hated them.

Y en el mes duodécimo, que es el mes de Adar, a los trece del mismo, donde llegó el mandamiento del rey y su ley, para que se pusiera por obra, el mismo día en que esperaban los enemigos de los judíos enseñorearse de ellos, fue lo contrario; porque los judíos se enseñorearon de los que los aborrecían.

2 T he Jews gathered themselves together in their cities throughout all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt; and no one could withstand them, for the fear of them had fallen upon all the peoples.

Los judíos se juntaron en sus ciudades en todas las provincias del rey Asuero, para meter mano sobre los que habían procurado su mal; y nadie se puso delante de ellos, porque el temor de ellos había caído sobre todos los pueblos.

3 A nd all the princes of the provinces and the lieutenants and the captains and officers of the king helped the Jews because the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.

Y todos los príncipes de las provincias, los virreyes, capitanes, y oficiales del rey, ensalzaban a los judíos; porque el temor de Mardoqueo había caído sobre ellos.

4 F or Mordecai was great in the king’s house, and his fame went out throughout all the provinces, for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

Porque Mardoqueo era grande en la casa del rey, y su fama iba por todas las provincias; pues el varón Mardoqueo iba engrandeciéndose.

5 T hus the Jews smote all their enemies with the stroke of the sword and slaughter and destruction and did what they would unto those that hated them.

E hirieron los judíos a todos sus enemigos con plaga de espada, de mortandad, y de perdición; e hicieron en sus enemigos a su voluntad.

6 A nd in Shushan, the palace, the Jews slew and destroyed five hundred men.

Y en Susa capital del reino, mataron y destruyeron los judíos a quinientos hombres.

7 T hen they also slew Parshandatha, Dalphon, Aspatha,

a Parsandata, Dalfón, Aspata,

8 P oratha, Adalia, Aridatha,

Porata, Adalía, Aridata,

9 P armashta, Arisai, Aridai, and Vajezatha,

Parmasta, Arisai, Aridai, y a Vaizata,

10 t he ten sons of Haman, the son of Hammedatha; the enemy of the Jews, they slew, but on the spoil they did not lay their hand.

diez hijos de Amán hijo de Hamedata, enemigo de los judíos; mas en el despojo no metieron su mano.

11 O n the same day the number of those that were slain in Shushan, the palace, was brought before the king.

El mismo día vino la cuenta de los muertos en Susa capital del reino, delante del rey.

12 A nd the king said unto Esther, the queen, The Jews have slain and destroyed five hundred men in Shushan, the palace, and the ten sons of Haman; what have they done in the rest of the king’s provinces? Now what is thy petition, and it shall be granted thee? What is thy request further, and it shall be done?

Y dijo el rey a la reina Ester: En Susa, capital del reino, los judíos han matado y destruido a quinientos hombres, y a diez hijos de Amán; ¿qué habrán hecho en las otras provincias del rey? ¿Cuál pues es tu petición, y te será concedida? ¿Y qué más es tu demanda, y será hecho?

13 T hen said Esther, If it please the king, let it be granted to the Jews who are in Shushan to do tomorrow also according unto this day’s decree, and let Haman’s ten sons be hanged upon the gallows.

Y respondió Ester: Si place al rey, concédase también mañana a los judíos en Susa, que hagan conforme a la ley de hoy; y que cuelguen en la horca a los diez hijos de Amán.

14 A nd the king commanded it to be so done; and it was given as law at Shushan; and they hanged Haman’s ten sons.

Y mandó el rey que se hiciera así; y fue dada por ley en Susa, y colgaron a los diez hijos de Amán.

15 A nd the Jews that were in Shushan gathered themselves together also on the fourteenth day of the month Adar and slew three hundred men at Shushan; but on the spoil they did not lay their hand.

Y los judíos que estaban en Susa, se juntaron también el catorce del mes de Adar, y mataron en Susa trescientos hombres; mas en el despojo no metieron su mano.

16 A nd the other Jews that were in the king’s provinces also gathered themselves together and stood for their lives and had rest from their enemies and slew of their foes seventy-five thousand, but they did not lay their hands on the spoil,

Y los otros judíos que estaban en las provincias del rey, también se juntaron y se pusieron en defensa de su vida, y tuvieron reposo de sus enemigos, y mataron de sus enemigos setenta y cinco mil; mas en el despojo no metieron su mano.

17 o n the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested and made it a day of banquet and gladness.

En el día trece del mes de Adar fue esto; y reposaron en el día catorce del mismo, y lo hicieron día de banquete y de alegría.

18 B ut the Jews that were at Shushan assembled together on the thirteenth day thereof and on the fourteenth thereof; and on the fifteenth day of the same they rested and made it a day of banquet and gladness.

Mas los judíos que estaban en Susa se juntaron en el trece y en el catorce del mismo mes; y al quince del mismo reposaron, y lo hicieron día de banquete y de alegría.

19 T herefore, the Jews of the villages that dwelt in the unwalled towns made the fourteenth day of the month Adar a day of gladness and banquet and a good day and of sending portions one to another.

Por tanto los judíos aldeanos que habitan en las villas sin muro, celebran a los catorce del mes de Adar el día de alegría y de banquete, y buen día, y de enviar porciones cada uno a su vecino.

20 ¶ And Mordecai wrote these things and sent letters unto all the Jews that were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, both near and far,

¶ Y escribió Mardoqueo estas cosas, y envió cartas a todos los judíos que estaban en todas las provincias del rey Asuero, cercanos y distantes,

21 t o establish this among them that they should keep the fourteenth day of the month Adar and the fifteenth day of the same, yearly,

Constituyéndoles que celebraran el día décimocuarto del mes de Adar, y el decimoquinto del mismo, cada año,

22 a s the days in which the Jews had rest from their enemies and the month which was turned unto them from sorrow to joy and from mourning into a good day, that they should make them days of banquet and joy and of sending portions one to another and gifts to the poor.

por aquellos días en que los judíos tuvieron reposo de sus enemigos, y el mes que se les fue tornado de tristeza en alegría, y de luto en día bueno; que los hicieran días de banquete y de gozo, y de enviar porciones cada uno a su vecino, y dádivas a los pobres.

23 A nd the Jews accepting this began to do as Mordecai had written unto them.

Y los judíos aceptaron y comenzaron a hacer, lo que les escribió Mardoqueo.

24 B ecause Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews, had devised against the Jews to destroy them and had cast Pur, that is, the lot, to consume them and to destroy them,

Porque Amán hijo de Hamedata, agagueo, enemigo de los judíos, había ideado contra los judíos para destruirlos, y echó Pur, que quiere decir suerte, para consumirlos y echarlos a perder.

25 b ut when she came before the king, he commanded by letters that his wicked device, which he devised against the Jews, should return upon his own head and that he and his sons should be hanged on the gallows.

Mas cuando ella vino a la presencia del rey, él ordenó por escrito: El perverso designio que aquel trazó contra los judíos, recaiga sobre su cabeza; y cuélguenlo a él y a sus hijos en la horca.

26 T herefore, they called these days Purim after the name of Pur. Therefore, for all the words of this letter and of that which they had seen concerning this matter and which had come unto them,

Por esto llamaron a estos días Purim, del nombre Pur. Por todas las palabras pues de esta carta, y por lo que ellos vieron sobre esto, y lo que llegó a su noticia,

27 t he Jews ordained and took upon them and upon their seed and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing and according to their appointed time each year,

establecieron y tomaron los judíos sobre sí, y sobre su simiente, y sobre todos los allegados a ellos, y no será traspasado, el celebrar estos dos días según está escrito en orden a ellos, y conforme a su tiempo cada año;

28 a nd that these days should be remembered and kept throughout every generation, every family, every province, and every city, and that these days of Purim should not fail from among the Jews nor the memorial of them perish from their seed.

y que estos dos días serían en memoria, y celebrados en todas las generaciones, familias, provincias, y ciudades. Estos días de Purim no pasarán de entre los judíos, y la memoria de ellos no cesará de su simiente.

29 T hen Esther, the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai, the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim.

Y la reina Ester hija de Abihail, y Mardoqueo judío, escribieron con toda autoridad, para confirmar esta segunda carta de Purim.

30 A nd he sent the letters unto all the Jews, to the hundred twenty-seven provinces of the kingdom of Ahasuerus, with words of peace and truth,

Y él envió cartas a todos los judíos, a las ciento veintisiete provincias del rey Asuero, con palabras de paz y de verdad,

31 t o confirm these days of Purim in their times appointed, according as Mordecai, the Jew, and Esther, the queen, had enjoined them, and as they had decreed for themselves and for their seed, the words of the fastings and their cry.

para confirmar estos días del Purim en sus tiempos señalados, según les había constituido Mardoqueo judío y la reina Ester, y cómo habían ellos tomado sobre sí y sobre su simiente las palabras de los ayunos y de su clamor.

32 A nd the commandment of Esther confirmed these words of Purim, and it was written in the book.

Y el mandamiento de Ester confirmó estas palabras del Purim, y fue escrito en el libro.
