1 ¶ Better is a dry morsel in peace than the house of contention full of sacrifices for a feast.

¶ Mejor es un bocado seco, y en paz, que la casa de contienda llena de sacrificios de fiesta.

2 ¶ A prudent slave shall have rule over a son that causes shame and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.

¶ El siervo prudente se enseñoreará del hijo que deshonra, y entre los hermanos compartirá la herencia.

3 ¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

¶ El crisol para la plata, y la hornaza para el oro; mas el SEÑOR prueba los corazones.

4 ¶ An evil doer gives heed to false lips, and a liar gives ear to the tongue which curses.

¶ El malo está atento al labio inicuo; y el mentiroso escucha a la lengua maldiciente.

5 ¶ Whosoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker, and he that is glad regarding the calamity of someone else shall not go unpunished.

¶ El que escarnece al pobre, afrenta a su Hacedor; y el que se alegra en la calamidad ajena, no quedará sin castigo.

6 ¶ Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the honour of the children are their fathers.

¶ Corona de los viejos son los hijos de los hijos; y la honra de los hijos, sus padres.

7 ¶ Excellent speech is not suitable for a fool: much less lying lips for a prince!

¶ No conviene al loco la altilocuencia; ¡cuánto menos al príncipe el labio mentiroso!

8 ¶ A bribe is as a precious stone in the eyes of him that has it; wherever it turns, it prospers.

¶ Piedra preciosa es el soborno en ojos de sus dueños; a dondequiera que se vuelve, da prosperidad.

9 ¶ He that covers a transgression seeks love, but he that repeats a matter separates very friends.

¶ El que cubre la prevaricación, busca el amor; mas el que reitera el asunto, aparta los amigos.

10 ¶ Reproof is of more benefit to a wise man than a hundred stripes to a fool.

¶ Aprovecha la reprensión en el entendido, más que cien azotes en el loco.

11 ¶ The rebellious man seeks only evil; therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.

¶ El rebelde no busca sino mal; y mensajero cruel será enviado contra él.

12 ¶ It is better to meet a bear robbed of her cubs than a fool in his folly.

¶ Mejor es que se encuentre un hombre con una osa a la cual han robado sus cachorros, que con un loco en su locura.

13 ¶ Whosoever rewards evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.

¶ El que da mal por bien, no se apartará el mal de su casa.

14 ¶ To release the waters (to speak rashly) is the beginning of contention; therefore, leave off strife before it gets started.

¶ Soltar las aguas ( hablar precipitadamente ) es el principio de la contienda; pues, antes que se revuelva el pleito, déjalo.

15 ¶ He that justifies the wicked and he that condemns the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

¶ El que justifica al impío, y el que condena al justo, ambos por igual son abominación al SEÑOR.

16 ¶ Of what good is the price to buy wisdom in the hand of the fool, seeing he has no heart to understand?

¶ ¿De qué sirve el precio en la mano del loco para comprar sabiduría, no teniendo corazón para entender ?

17 ¶ A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

¶ En todo tiempo ama el amigo; mas el hermano para la angustia es nacido.

18 ¶ A man void of understanding strikes hands and becomes surety in the presence of his friend.

¶ El hombre falto de entendimiento toca la mano, fiando a otro delante de su amigo.

19 ¶ Transgression loves him that loves strife, and he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

¶ La prevaricación ama el que ama el pleito; y el que alza su portada, quebrantamiento busca.

20 ¶ He that has a perverse heart shall never find good, and he that stirs up trouble with his tongue shall fall into evil.

¶ El perverso de corazón nunca hallará bien; y el que revuelve con su lengua, caerá en mal.

21 ¶ He that begets a fool does it to his sorrow, and the father of a fool shall have no joy.

¶ El que engendra al loco, para su tristeza lo engendra; y el padre del loco no se alegrará.

22 ¶ A joyful heart shall do good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

¶ El corazón alegre hará bien como una medicina; mas el espíritu triste seca los huesos.

23 ¶ A wicked man takes a gift in secret to pervert the paths of judgment.

¶ El impío toma soborno en secreto para pervertir las veredas del derecho.

24 ¶ Wisdom appears upon the countenance of him that has understanding, but the eyes of a fool manifest his folly unto the ends of the earth.

¶ En el rostro del entendido aparece la sabiduría; mas los ojos del loco manifiestan su locura hasta el cabo de la tierra.

25 ¶ The foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her that bore him.

¶ El hijo loco es enojo a su padre, y amargura a la que lo engendró.

26 ¶ It is certainly not good to condemn the just, nor to smite princes for doing that which is upright.

¶ Ciertamente no es bueno condenar al justo, ni herir a los príncipes por hacer lo recto.

27 ¶ He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

¶ El que detiene sus palabras tiene sabiduría; y de espíritu excelente es el hombre inteligente.

28 E ven a fool, when he is silent is counted wise, and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Aun el loco cuando calla, es contado por sabio; el que cierra sus labios es entendido.
