1 ¶ Now when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity built the temple unto the LORD God of Israel,

Y oyendo los enemigos de Judá y de Benjamín, que los hijos de la cautividad edificaban el templo del SEÑOR Dios de Israel,

2 t hen they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the fathers and said unto them, Let us build with you, for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon, king of Assur, who brought us up here.

vinieron a Zorobabel, y a las cabezas de los padres, y les dijeron: Edificaremos con vosotros, porque como vosotros buscaremos a vuestro Dios, y a él sacrificamos desde los días de Esar-hadón rey de Asiria, que nos hizo subir aquí.

3 B ut Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we alone will build unto the LORD God of Israel as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us.

Y les dijo Zorobabel, y Jesúa, y los demás cabezas de los padres de Israel: No nos conviene edificar con vosotros Casa a nuestro Dios, sino que nosotros solos la edificaremos al SEÑOR Dios de Israel, como nos mandó el rey Ciro, rey de Persia.

4 T hen the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building

Mas el pueblo de la tierra debilitaba las manos del pueblo de Judá, y los perturbaban de edificar.

5 a nd hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus, king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

Contrataron además contra ellos consejeros para disipar su consejo, todo el tiempo de Ciro rey de Persia, y hasta el reinado de Darío rey de Persia.

6 ¶ And in the reign of Ahasuerus, in the beginning of his reign, they wrote accusations against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem.

Y en el reinado de Asuero, en el principio de su reinado, escribieron acusaciones contra los moradores de Judá y de Jerusalén.

7 A nd in the days of Artaxerxes wrote Bishlam, Mithredath, Tabeel, and the rest of their companions, unto Artaxerxes, king of Persia; and the writing of the letter was written in the Syrian tongue and interpreted in the Syrian tongue.

Y en días de Artajerjes escribieron Bislam, Mitrídates, Tabeel, y los demás compañeros suyos, a Artajerjes rey de Persia; y la escritura de la carta estaba hecha en siriaco, y declarada en siriaco.

8 R ehum, the chancellor, and Shimshai, the scribe, wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes, the king, in this sort:

Rehum canciller, y Simsai escriba, escribieron una carta contra Jerusalén al rey Artajerjes, como se sigue.

9 T hen wrote Rehum, the chancellor, and Shimshai, the scribe, and the rest of their companions, the Dinaites, the Apharsathchites, the Tarpelites, the Apharsites, the Archevites, the Babylonians, the Susanchites, the Dehavites, and the Elamites,

Entonces Rehum canciller, y Simsai escriba, y los demás compañeros suyos, los dineos, afarsataceos, tefarleos, afarseos, ercueos, babilonios, susasceos, dieveos, y los elamitas;

10 a nd the rest of the nations whom the great and noble Asnappar (Sennacherib) brought over and set in the cities of Samaria and the rest that are on the other side of the river, and of Cheenet.

y los demás pueblos que el grande y glorioso Asnapar (Senaquerib) transportó, e hizo habitar en las ciudades de Samaria, y los demás del otro lado del río, y de Cheenet.

11 T his is the copy of the letter that they sent: Unto Artaxerxes, the king: Thy servants, the men of the other side of the river, and of Cheenet.

Este es el traslado de la carta que enviaron: Al rey Artajerjes: Tus siervos del otro lado del río, y de Cheenet.

12 B e it known unto the king that the Jews who came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have founded the walls thereof and joined the foundations.

Sea notorio al rey, que los judíos que subieron de ti a nosotros, vinieron a Jerusalén; y edifican la ciudad rebelde y mala, y han fundado los muros; y puesto los fundamentos.

13 B e it known now unto the king, that, if this city is rebuilt, and the walls founded, they will not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so the revenue of the kings shall be reduced.

Ahora, notorio sea al rey, que si aquella ciudad fuere reedificada, y los muros fueren fundados, no darán el tributo, impuesto, y rentas, y el catastro de los reyes será menoscabado.

14 N ow because we are salted with the salt of the palace, and it is not just unto us to see the king’s dishonour; therefore, we have sent to make this known unto the king,

Ahora porque de la sal del palacio estamos salados, no nos es justo ver el menosprecio del rey; por tanto hemos enviado para hacerlo saber al rey,

15 t hat search may be made in the book of the records of our fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful unto kings and provinces and that from old time they form rebellions in the midst of her, for which cause this city was destroyed.

para que busque en el libro de las historias de nuestros padres; y hallarás en el libro de las historias, y sabrás que esta ciudad es ciudad rebelde, y perjudicial a los reyes y a las provincias, y que de tiempo antiguo forman en medio de ella rebeliones; por lo que esta ciudad fue destruida.

16 W e notify the king that if this city is built again, and its walls founded, the portion on the other side of the river shall no longer be yours.

Hacemos saber al rey, que si esta ciudad fuere edificada, y los muros fundados, la parte más allá del río no será tuya.

17 ¶ The king sent this answer unto Rehum, the chancellor, and to Shimshai, the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria and to the rest of those of the other side of the river and to Cheenet.

El rey envió esta respuesta a Rehum canciller, y a Simsai escriba, y a los demás de sus compañeros que habitan en Samaria, y a los demás del otro lado del río y a Cheenet:

18 T he letter which you sent unto us has been plainly read before me.

La carta que nos enviasteis claramente fue leída delante de mí.

19 A nd I commanded, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and that rebellion and sedition have been made in her

Y por mí fue dado mandamiento, y buscaron; y hallaron que aquella ciudad de tiempo antiguo se levanta contra los reyes, y se rebela, y se forma en ella sedición;

20 a nd that there have been mighty kings in Jerusalem, who have ruled over all that is beyond the river, and that toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

y que reyes fuertes hubo en Jerusalén, y señores de todo lo que está al lado de allá del río; y que tributo, e impuesto, y rentas se les daba.

21 G ive ye now commandment to cause these men to cease and that this city not be built until another commandment shall be given from me.

Ahora, pues, dad orden que cesen aquellos varones, y no sea esa ciudad edificada, hasta que por mí sea dada nueva orden.

22 T ake heed now that ye not fail to do this; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

Y mirad bien que no hagáis error en esto, ¿por qué habrá de crecer el daño para perjuicio de los reyes?

23 N ow when the copy of King Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai, the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews and made them to cease by force and power.

Entonces, cuando el traslado de la carta del rey Artajerjes fue leído delante de Rehum, y de Simsai escriba, y sus compañeros, fueron prestamente a Jerusalén a los judíos, y les hicieron cesar con poder y fuerza.

24 T hen the work of the house of God which was at Jerusalem ceased. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

Cesó entonces la obra de la Casa de Dios, la cual estaba en Jerusalén; y cesó hasta el año segundo del reinado de Darío rey de Persia.
