1 ¶ Now when the enemies of Judah and Benjamin heard that the sons of the captivity built the temple unto the LORD God of Israel,

2 t hen they came to Zerubbabel and to the heads of the fathers and said unto them, Let us build with you, for we seek your God, as ye do; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esarhaddon, king of Assur, who brought us up here.

iu afruan Zorobabelit dhe krerëve të shtëpive atërore dhe u thanë atyre: Na lejoni të ndërtojmë bashkë me ju, sepse edhe ne kërkojmë Perëndinë tuaj,, ashtu si ju; i kemi ofruar flijime atij nga koha e Esar-Hadonit, mbretit të Asirisë, që na solli këtu".

3 B ut Zerubbabel and Jeshua and the rest of the heads of the fathers of Israel, said unto them, Ye have nothing to do with us to build a house unto our God; but we alone will build unto the LORD God of Israel as King Cyrus, the king of Persia, commanded us.

Por Zorobabeli, Jeshua dhe krerët e tjerë të shtëpive atërore të Izraelit iu përgjigjën atyre: "Nuk keni asnjë të drejtë të ndërtoni me ne një shtëpi, Perëndisë tonë, por ne vetë do ti ndërtojmë Zotit, Perëndisë së Izraelit, ashtu si na ka urdhëruar mbreti Kir, mbret i Persisë".

4 T hen the people of the land weakened the hands of the people of Judah and troubled them in building

Atëherë njerëzit e vendit filluan ta shkurajojnë popullin e Judës dhe ta trëmbin, me qëllim që të mos ndërtonin.

5 a nd hired counsellors against them, to frustrate their counsel, all the days of Cyrus, king of Persia, even until the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

Përveç kësaj rekrutuan disa këshilltarë kundër tyre për të hedhur poshtë qëllimin e tyre, dhe këtë e bënë gjatë gjithë kohës së Kirit, mbretit të Persisë, deri në mbretërimin e Darit, mbretit të Persisë.

8 R ehum, the chancellor, and Shimshai, the scribe, wrote a letter against Jerusalem to Artaxerxes, the king, in this sort:

11 T his is the copy of the letter that they sent: Unto Artaxerxes, the king: Thy servants, the men of the other side of the river, and of Cheenet.

12 B e it known unto the king that the Jews who came up from thee to us are come unto Jerusalem, building the rebellious and the bad city, and have founded the walls thereof and joined the foundations.

T’i njoftohet mbretit që Judejtë, që ikën nga ti dhe kanë ardhur pranë nesh në Jeruzalem, janë duke rindërtuar qytetin rebel të keq, po rindërtojnë muret dhe po ndreqin themelet.

13 B e it known now unto the king, that, if this city is rebuilt, and the walls founded, they will not pay toll, tribute, and custom, and so the revenue of the kings shall be reduced.

Tani t’i bëhet e njohur mbretit që në rast se ky qytet rindërtohet dhe muret e tij përfundohen, ata nuk do të paguajnë asnjë haraç, tatim ose taksë për kalim, dhe thesari i mbretit do të ketë pasoja.

14 N ow because we are salted with the salt of the palace, and it is not just unto us to see the king’s dishonour; therefore, we have sent to make this known unto the king,

15 t hat search may be made in the book of the records of our fathers; so shalt thou find in the book of the records and know that this city is a rebellious city and hurtful unto kings and provinces and that from old time they form rebellions in the midst of her, for which cause this city was destroyed.

16 W e notify the king that if this city is built again, and its walls founded, the portion on the other side of the river shall no longer be yours.

17 ¶ The king sent this answer unto Rehum, the chancellor, and to Shimshai, the scribe, and to the rest of their companions that dwell in Samaria and to the rest of those of the other side of the river and to Cheenet.

18 T he letter which you sent unto us has been plainly read before me.

Letra që na dërguat u lexua me kujdes përpara meje.

19 A nd I commanded, and search has been made, and it is found that this city of old time has made insurrection against kings and that rebellion and sedition have been made in her

Unë dhashë urdhër të bëhen kërkime, dhe u gjet që ky qytet qysh prej kohësh të lashta është ngritur kundër mbretërve dhe që në të kanë ndodhur rebelime dhe kryengritje.

20 a nd that there have been mighty kings in Jerusalem, who have ruled over all that is beyond the river, and that toll, tribute, and custom, was paid unto them.

Në Jeruzalem ka pasur mbretër të fuqishëm që kanë sunduar mbi gjithë vendin matanë Lumit, dhe të cilëve u paguheshin haraçe, tatime dhe taksa kalimi.

21 G ive ye now commandment to cause these men to cease and that this city not be built until another commandment shall be given from me.

Prandaj jepni urdhër që këta njerëz të pezullojnë punimet dhe ky qytet të mos rindërtohet deri sa të jetë dhënë nga unë urdhëri përkatës.

22 T ake heed now that ye not fail to do this; why should damage grow to the hurt of the kings?

23 N ow when the copy of King Artaxerxes’ letter was read before Rehum, and Shimshai, the scribe, and their companions, they went up in haste to Jerusalem unto the Jews and made them to cease by force and power.

24 T hen the work of the house of God which was at Jerusalem ceased. So it ceased unto the second year of the reign of Darius, king of Persia.

Kështu u pezullua puna e shtëpisë së Perëndisë që është në Jeruzalem, dhe mbeti pezull deri në vitin e dytë të mbretërimit të Darius, mbretit të Persisë.
