1 ¶ The sons of the prophets said unto Elisha, Behold now, the place where we dwell with thee is too tight for us.

Los hijos de los profetas dijeron a Eliseo: He aquí, el lugar en que moramos contigo nos es estrecho.

2 L et us go, we pray thee, unto the Jordan, and each one take a beam from there, and let us make us a place there where we may dwell. And he answered, Go.

Vamos ahora al Jordán, y tomemos de allí cada uno una viga, y hagámonos allí lugar en que habitemos. Y él dijo: Andad.

3 A nd one said, Be content, I pray thee, and go with thy slaves. And he answered, I will go.

Y dijo uno: Te rogamos que quieras venir con tus siervos. Y él respondió: Yo iré.

4 S o he went with them. And when they came to the Jordan, they cut down the wood.

Se fue, pues, con ellos; y cuando llegaron al Jordán, cortaron la madera.

5 B ut as one was felling a beam, the axe head fell into the water, and he cried and said, Alas, master! It was borrowed.

Y aconteció que derribando uno un árbol, se le cayó el hacha en el agua; y dio voces, diciendo: ¡Ay, señor mío, que era prestada!

6 A nd the man of God said, Where did it fall? And he showed him the place. Then he cut down a stick and cast it in there and caused the iron to swim.

Y el varón de Dios dijo: ¿Dónde cayó? Y él le mostró el lugar. Entonces cortó él un palo, y lo echó allí; e hizo nadar el hierro.

7 A nd he said unto him, Take it. And he put out his hand and took it.

Y él le dijo: Tómalo. Y él tendió la mano, y lo tomó.

8 ¶ Then the king of Syria warred against Israel and took counsel with his slaves, saying, In such and such a place shall be my camp.

¶ Tenía el rey de Siria guerra contra Israel, y consultando con sus siervos, dijo: En tal y tal lugar estará mi campamento.

9 A nd the man of God sent unto the king of Israel, saying, Beware to not pass through such and such a place, for the Syrians are going there.

Y el varón de Dios envió a decir al rey de Israel: Mira que no pases por tal lugar, porque los sirios van allí.

10 T hen the king of Israel sent to the place, which the man of God told him and warned him of and kept himself from there, not once nor twice.

Entonces el rey de Israel envió a aquel lugar que el varón de Dios había dicho; de la cual le había amonestado; y se guardó de allí, no una vez ni dos.

11 T herefore, the heart of the king of Syria was sore troubled over this thing, and he called his slaves and said unto them, Will ye not show me which of us is for the king of Israel?

Y el corazón del rey de Siria fue turbado de esto; y llamando a sus siervos, les dijo: ¿No me declararéis vosotros quién de los nuestros es del rey de Israel?

12 T hen one of his slaves said, None, my lord, O king, but Elisha, the prophet that is in Israel, tells the king of Israel the words that thou speakest in thy bedchamber.

Entonces uno de los siervos dijo: No, rey, señor mío; sino que el profeta Eliseo está en Israel, el cual declara al rey de Israel las palabras que tú hablas en tu más secreta cámara.

13 ¶ And he said, Go and spy where he is, that I may send and take him. And it was told him, saying, Behold, he is in Dothan.

Y él dijo: Id, y mirad dónde está, para que yo envíe a tomarlo. Y le fue dicho: He aquí él está en Dotán.

14 S o he sent horsemen and chariots there and a great host, who came by night and compassed the city about.

Entonces envió el rey allá gente de a caballo, y carros, y un gran ejército, los cuales vinieron de noche, y cercaron la ciudad.

15 A nd when the servant of the man of God was risen early to go forth, behold, a host compassed the city both with horsemen and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! What shall we do?

Y levantándose de mañana el que servía al varón de Dios, para salir, he aquí el ejército que tenía cercada la ciudad, con gente de a caballo y carros. Entonces su criado le dijo: ¡Ay, señor mío! ¿qué haremos?

16 A nd he answered, Fear not; for those that are with us are more than those that are with them.

Y él le dijo: No tengas miedo; porque más son los que están con nosotros que los que están con ellos.

17 A nd Elisha prayed and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw; and, behold, the mountain was full of horsemen and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

Y oró Eliseo, y dijo: Te ruego, oh SEÑOR, que abras sus ojos para que vea. Entonces el SEÑOR abrió los ojos del joven, y miró; y he aquí que el monte estaba lleno de gente de a caballo, y de carros de fuego alrededor de Eliseo.

18 A nd when the Syrians came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD and said, Smite these people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.

Y cuando los sirios descendieron a él, Eliseo oró al SEÑOR, y dijo: Te ruego que hieras a esta gente con ceguedad. Y los hirió con ceguedad, conforme al dicho de Eliseo.

19 A nd Elisha said unto them, This is not the way, neither is this the city; follow me, and I will bring you to the man whom ye seek. And he led them to Samaria.

Y Eliseo les dijo: No es éste el camino, ni es ésta la ciudad; seguidme, que yo os guiaré al hombre que buscáis. Y los guió a Samaria.

20 A nd when they came into Samaria, Elisha said, LORD, open the eyes of these men, that they may see. And the LORD opened their eyes, and they saw; and, behold, they were in the midst of Samaria.

Y cuando llegaron a Samaria, dijo Eliseo: SEÑOR, abre los ojos de éstos, para que vean. Y el SEÑOR abrió sus ojos, y miraron, y he aquí se hallaron en medio de Samaria.

21 A nd the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? Shall I smite them?

Y cuando los vio, el rey de Israel dijo a Eliseo: ¿Los heriré? ¿Los heriré, padre mío?

22 A nd he answered, Thou shalt not smite them; would thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? Set bread and water before them, that they may eat and drink and return to their master.

Y él le respondió: No los hieras; ¿herirías tú a los que tomaste cautivos con tu espada y con tu arco? Pon delante de ellos pan y agua, para que coman y beban, y se vuelvan a su señor.

23 A nd he prepared great provision for them; and when they had eaten and drunk, he sent them away, and they went to their master. So the bands of Syria came no more into the land of Israel.

Entonces les fue aparejada grande comida; y cuando habían comido y bebido, los envió, y ellos se volvieron a su señor. Y nunca más vinieron escuadrones de Siria a la tierra de Israel.

24 ¶ And it came to pass after this, that Benhadad, king of Syria, gathered all his host and went up and besieged Samaria.

¶ Después de esto aconteció, que Ben-adad rey de Siria juntó todo su ejército, y subió, y puso cerco a Samaria.

25 A nd there was a great famine in Samaria as they besieged it until an ass’s head was sold for eighty pieces of silver and the fourth part of a cab of dove’s dung for five pieces of silver.

Y hubo grande hambre en Samaria, teniendo ellos cerco sobre ella; tanto, que la cabeza de un asno era vendida por ochenta piezas de plata, y la cuarta de un cabo de estiércol de palomas por cinco piezas de plata.

26 A nd as the king of Israel was passing by upon the wall, a woman cried unto him, saying, Save me, my lord, O king.

Y pasando el rey de Israel por el muro, una mujer le dio voces, y dijo: Salva, rey señor mío.

27 A nd he said, If the LORD does not save thee, from where shall I save thee? Out of the threshingfloor, or out of the winepress?

Y él dijo: Si no te salva el SEÑOR, ¿de dónde te puedo salvar yo? ¿Del alfolí, o del lagar?

28 A nd the king said unto her, What ails thee? And she answered, This woman said unto me, Give thy son that we may eat him today, and we will eat my son tomorrow.

Y le dijo el rey: ¿Qué tienes? Y ella respondió: Esta mujer me dijo: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo hoy, y mañana comeremos el mío.

29 S o we boiled my son and ate him. And I said unto her on the next day, Give thy son that we may eat him. But she has hid her son.

Cocimos, pues, mi hijo, y le comimos. El día siguiente yo le dije: Da acá tu hijo, y comámoslo. Mas ella ha escondido su hijo.

30 A nd when the king heard the words of the woman, he rent his clothes; and he passed by like this upon the wall, and the people looked, and, behold, he had sackcloth within upon his flesh.

Y cuando el rey oyó las palabras de aquella mujer, rasgó sus vestidos, y pasó así por el muro; y el pueblo vio el cilicio que traía interiormente sobre su carne.

31 T hen he said, God do so and more also to me, if the head of Elisha, the son of Shaphat, shall remain upon him today.

Y él dijo: Así me haga Dios, y así me añada, si la cabeza de Eliseo hijo de Safat quedare sobre él hoy.

32 A nd Elisha sat in his house, and the elders sat with him; and the king sent a man unto him. But before the messenger came to him, he said to the elders, See ye how this son of a murderer has sent to take away my head? Look, when the messenger comes, shut the door, and hold him fast at the door; is not the sound of his master’s feet behind him?

Y Eliseo sentado en su casa, y con él estaban sentados los ancianos; y el rey envió a él un varón. Mas antes que el mensajero viniera a él, dijo él a los ancianos: ¿No habéis visto como este hijo del homicida me envía a quitarme la cabeza? Mirad, pues, y cuando viniere el mensajero, cerrad la puerta, e impedidle la entrada; ¿no viene tras él el estruendo de los pies de su amo?

33 A nd while he yet talked with them, behold, the messenger came down unto him; and he said, Behold, this evil is of the LORD; for what should I wait for the LORD any longer?

Aun estaba él hablando con ellos, y he aquí el mensajero que descendía a él; y dijo: Ciertamente este mal del SEÑOR viene. ¿Para qué he de esperar más al SEÑOR?
