1 S o then Pilate took Jesus and scourged Him.

¶ Así que, entonces tomó Pilato a Jesús, y le azotó.

2 A nd the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, and they put on Him a purple robe.

Y los soldados entretejieron de espinas una corona, y la pusieron sobre su cabeza, y le vistieron de una ropa de grana;

3 T hen they said, “Hail, King of the Jews!” And they struck Him with their hands.

y (venían a él y) decían: ¡Hayas gozo, rey de los Judíos! Y le daban de bofetadas.

4 P ilate then went out again, and said to them, “Behold, I am bringing Him out to you, that you may know that I find no fault in Him.” Pilate’s Decision

Entonces Pilato salió otra vez fuera, y les dijo: He aquí, os lo traigo fuera, para que entendáis que ningún crimen hallo en él.

5 T hen Jesus came out, wearing the crown of thorns and the purple robe. And Pilate said to them, “Behold the Man!”

Así salió Jesús fuera, llevando la corona de espinas y la ropa de grana. Y les dice Pilato: He aquí el hombre.

6 T herefore, when the chief priests and officers saw Him, they cried out, saying, “Crucify Him, crucify Him! ” Pilate said to them, “You take Him and crucify Him, for I find no fault in Him.”

Y como le vieron los príncipes de los sacerdotes, y los servidores, dieron voces diciendo: Cuélguenle de un madero, cuélguenle de un madero. Les dice Pilato: Tomadle vosotros, y colgadle del madero; porque yo no hallo en él crimen.

7 T he Jews answered him, “We have a law, and according to our law He ought to die, because He made Himself the Son of God.”

Le respondieron los judíos: Nosotros tenemos ley, y según nuestra ley debe morir, porque se hizo Hijo de Dios.

8 T herefore, when Pilate heard that saying, he was the more afraid,

Cuando Pilato oyó esta palabra, tuvo más miedo.

9 a nd went again into the Praetorium, and said to Jesus, “Where are You from?” But Jesus gave him no answer.

Y entró otra vez en el pretorio, y dijo a Jesús: ¿De dónde eres tú? Mas Jesús no le dio respuesta.

10 T hen Pilate said to Him, “Are You not speaking to me? Do You not know that I have power to crucify You, and power to release You?”

Entonces le dice Pilato: ¿A mí no me hablas? ¿No sabes que tengo potestad para colgarte de un madero, y que tengo potestad para soltarte?

11 J esus answered, “You could have no power at all against Me unless it had been given you from above. Therefore the one who delivered Me to you has the greater sin.”

Respondió Jesús: Ninguna potestad tendrías contra mí, si no te fuera dada de arriba; por tanto, el que a ti me ha entregado, mayor pecado tiene.

12 F rom then on Pilate sought to release Him, but the Jews cried out, saying, “If you let this Man go, you are not Caesar’s friend. Whoever makes himself a king speaks against Caesar.”

Desde entonces procuraba Pilato soltarle; mas los Judíos daban voces, diciendo: Si a éste sueltas, no eres amigo de César; cualquiera que se hace rey, a César contradice.

13 W hen Pilate therefore heard that saying, he brought Jesus out and sat down in the judgment seat in a place that is called The Pavement, but in Hebrew, Gabbatha.

Entonces Pilato, oyendo este dicho, llevó fuera a Jesús, y se sentó en el tribunal en el lugar que se dice el Enlosado, y en hebreo Gábata.

14 N ow it was the Preparation Day of the Passover, and about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews, “Behold your King!”

Y era la víspera de la Pascua, y como la hora sexta. Entonces dijo a los Judíos: He aquí vuestro Rey.

15 B ut they cried out, “Away with Him, away with Him! Crucify Him!” Pilate said to them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but Caesar!”

Pero ellos dieron voces: Quita, quita, cuélguenle de un madero. Les dice Pilato: ¿A vuestro Rey he de colgar de un madero? Respondieron los sumos sacerdotes: No tenemos rey sino a César.

16 T hen he delivered Him to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led Him away. The King on a Cross

¶ Así que entonces lo entregó a ellos para que fuera colgado de un madero. Y tomaron a Jesús, y le llevaron.

17 A nd He, bearing His cross, went out to a place called the Place of a Skull, which is called in Hebrew, Golgotha,

Y llevando el madero para sí, vino al lugar que se dice de la Calavera, y en hebreo, Gólgota;

18 w here they crucified Him, and two others with Him, one on either side, and Jesus in the center.

donde le colgaron del madero, y con él otros dos, uno en un madero a cada lado, y Jesús en medio.

19 N ow Pilate wrote a title and put it on the cross. And the writing was: JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS.

¶ Y escribió también Pilato un título, que puso encima del madero. Y el escrito era: JESÚS NAZARENO, REY DE LOS JUDÍOS.

20 T hen many of the Jews read this title, for the place where Jesus was crucified was near the city; and it was written in Hebrew, Greek, and Latin.

Y muchos de los Judíos leyeron este título, porque el lugar donde estaba Jesús colgado del madero era cerca de la ciudad; y estaba escrito en hebreo, en griego, y en latín.

21 T herefore the chief priests of the Jews said to Pilate, “Do not write, ‘The King of the Jews,’ but, ‘He said, “I am the King of the Jews.”’”

Y decían a Pilato los sumos sacerdotes de los judíos: No escribas, Rey de los Judíos; sino, que él dijo: YO SOY Rey de los Judíos.

22 P ilate answered, “What I have written, I have written.”

Respondió Pilato: Lo que he escrito, he escrito.

23 T hen the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took His garments and made four parts, to each soldier a part, and also the tunic. Now the tunic was without seam, woven from the top in one piece.

Cuando los soldados hubieron colgado a Jesús del madero, tomaron sus vestidos, e hicieron cuatro partes (a cada soldado una parte); y la túnica; mas la túnica era sin costura, toda tejida desde arriba.

24 T hey said therefore among themselves, “Let us not tear it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be,” that the Scripture might be fulfilled which says: “They divided My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots.” Therefore the soldiers did these things. Behold Your Mother

Y dijeron entre ellos: No la partamos, sino echemos suertes sobre ella, de quién será; para que se cumpliera la Escritura, que dice: Partieron para sí mis vestidos, Y sobre mi vestidura echaron suertes. Y los soldados ciertamente hicieron esto.

25 N ow there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene.

Y estaban junto al madero de Jesús su madre, y la hermana de su madre, María mujer de Cleofas, y María Magdalena.

26 W hen Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!”

Y como vio Jesús a la madre, y al discípulo que él amaba, que estaba presente, dice a su madre: Mujer, he ahí tu hijo.

27 T hen He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home. It Is Finished

Después dice al discípulo: He ahí tu madre. Y desde aquella hora el discípulo la recibió consigo.

28 A fter this, Jesus, knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!”

Después de esto, sabiendo Jesús que todas las cosas eran ya cumplidas, para que la Escritura se cumpliera, dijo: Sed tengo.

29 N ow a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth.

Y estaba allí un vaso lleno de vinagre; entonces ellos mojaron una esponja de vinagre, y rodeada a un hisopo, se la llegaron a la boca.

30 S o when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. Jesus’ Side Is Pierced

Cuando Jesús tomó el vinagre, dijo: Consumado es. Y habiendo inclinado la cabeza, dio el Espíritu.

31 T herefore, because it was the Preparation Day, that the bodies should not remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a high day), the Jews asked Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

¶ Entonces los Judíos, para que los cuerpos no quedaran en el madero en el sábado, porque era la víspera de la Pascua, pues era el gran día del sábado, rogaron a Pilato que se les quebraran las piernas, y fueran quitados.

32 T hen the soldiers came and broke the legs of the first and of the other who was crucified with Him.

Y vinieron los soldados, y a la verdad quebraron las piernas al primero, y al otro que había sido colgado de un madero con él.

33 B ut when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.

Mas cuando vinieron a Jesús, como le vieron ya muerto, no le quebraron las piernas;

34 B ut one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out.

pero uno de los soldados le abrió el costado con una lanza, y luego salió sangre y agua.

35 A nd he who has seen has testified, and his testimony is true; and he knows that he is telling the truth, so that you may believe.

Y el que lo vio, da testimonio, y su testimonio es verdadero; y él sabe que dice verdad, para que vosotros también creáis.

36 F or these things were done that the Scripture should be fulfilled, “Not one of His bones shall be broken.”

Porque estas cosas fueron hechas para que se cumpliera la Escritura: Hueso no quebrantaréis de él.

37 A nd again another Scripture says, “They shall look on Him whom they pierced.” Jesus Buried in Joseph’s Tomb

Y también otra Escritura dice: Verán a aquel al cual traspasaron.

38 A fter this, Joseph of Arimathea, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews, asked Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus; and Pilate gave him permission. So he came and took the body of Jesus.

¶ Pasadas estas cosas, José de Arimatea, el cual era discípulo de Jesús, mas en secreto por miedo de los judíos, rogó a Pilato que pudiera quitar el cuerpo de Jesús; lo cual permitió Pilato. Entonces vino, y quitó el cuerpo de Jesús.

39 A nd Nicodemus, who at first came to Jesus by night, also came, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

Entonces vino también Nicodemo, el que antes había venido a Jesús de noche, trayendo un compuesto de mirra y de áloes, como cien libras.

40 T hen they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in strips of linen with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

Y tomaron el cuerpo de Jesús, y lo envolvieron en lienzos con especias, como es costumbre de los judíos sepultar.

41 N ow in the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been laid.

Y en aquel lugar donde había sido colgado del madero, había un huerto; y en el huerto un sepulcro nuevo, en el cual aún no había sido puesto ninguno.

42 S o there they laid Jesus, because of the Jews’ Preparation Day, for the tomb was nearby.

Allí, pues, por causa de la víspera de la Pascua de los judíos, porque aquel sepulcro estaba cerca, pusieron a Jesús.
