1 J osiah was eight years old when he became king, and he reigned thirty-one years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jedidah the daughter of Adaiah of Bozkath.

Cuando Josías comenzó a reinar era de ocho años, y reinó en Jerusalén treinta y un años. El nombre de su madre fue Jedida hija de Adaía de Boscat.

2 A nd he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in all the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left. Hilkiah Finds the Book of the Law

E hizo lo recto ante los ojos del SEÑOR, y anduvo en todo el camino de David su padre, sin apartarse a diestra ni a siniestra.

3 N ow it came to pass, in the eighteenth year of King Josiah, that the king sent Shaphan the scribe, the son of Azaliah, the son of Meshullam, to the house of the Lord, saying:

Y a los dieciocho años del rey Josías, aconteció que envió el rey a Safán hijo de Azalía, hijo de Mesulam, el escriba, a la Casa del SEÑOR, diciendo:

4 “ Go up to Hilkiah the high priest, that he may count the money which has been brought into the house of the Lord, which the doorkeepers have gathered from the people.

Ve a Hilcías, el sumo sacerdote, que completa el dinero que se ha traído la Casa del SEÑOR, que han recogido del pueblo los guardianes de la puerta,

5 A nd let them deliver it into the hand of those doing the work, who are the overseers in the house of the Lord; let them give it to those who are in the house of the Lord doing the work, to repair the damages of the house—

y que lo pongan en manos de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la Casa del SEÑOR, y que lo entreguen a los que hacen la obra en la Casa del SEÑOR, para reparar las aberturas de la Casa;

6 t o carpenters and builders and masons—and to buy timber and hewn stone to repair the house.

a los carpinteros, a los maestros y albañiles, para comprar madera y piedra de cantería para reparar la Casa;

7 H owever there need be no accounting made with them of the money delivered into their hand, because they deal faithfully.”

y que no se les cuente el dinero cuyo manejo se les confiare, porque ellos proceden con fidelidad.

8 T hen Hilkiah the high priest said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan, and he read it.

Entonces dijo el sumo sacerdote Hilcías a Safán, el escriba: El libro de la ley he hallado en la Casa del SEÑOR. E Hilcías dio el libro a Safán para que lo leyera.

9 S o Shaphan the scribe went to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “Your servants have gathered the money that was found in the house, and have delivered it into the hand of those who do the work, who oversee the house of the Lord.”

Viniendo luego Safán, el escriba al rey, dio al rey la respuesta, y dijo: Tus siervos han juntado el dinero que se halló en el templo, y lo han entregado en poder de los que hacen la obra, que tienen cargo de la Casa del SEÑOR.

10 T hen Shaphan the scribe showed the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.

Asimismo Safán, el escriba declaró al rey, diciendo: Hilcías el sacerdote me ha dado un libro. Y lo leyó Safán delante del rey.

11 N ow it happened, when the king heard the words of the Book of the Law, that he tore his clothes.

Y cuando el rey oyó las palabras del libro de la ley, rasgó sus vestidos.

12 T hen the king commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam the son of Shaphan, Achbor the son of Michaiah, Shaphan the scribe, and Asaiah a servant of the king, saying,

Y mandó el rey a Hilcías el sacerdote, y a Ahicam hijo de Safán, y a Acbor hijo de Micaías, y a Safán escriba, y a Asaías siervo del rey, diciendo:

13 “ Go, inquire of the Lord for me, for the people and for all Judah, concerning the words of this book that has been found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that is aroused against us, because our fathers have not obeyed the words of this book, to do according to all that is written concerning us.”

Id, y preguntad al SEÑOR por mí, y por el pueblo, por todo Judá, acerca de las palabras de este libro que se ha hallado; porque grande ira del SEÑOR es la que ha sido encendida contra nosotros, por cuanto nuestros padres no oyeron las palabras de este libro, para hacer conforme a todo lo que nos fue escrito.

14 S o Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to Huldah the prophetess, the wife of Shallum the son of Tikvah, the son of Harhas, keeper of the wardrobe. (She dwelt in Jerusalem in the Second Quarter.) And they spoke with her.

Entonces fue Hilcías el sacerdote, y Ahicam y Acbor y Safán y Asaías, a Hulda la profetisa, mujer de Salum hijo de Ticva hijo de Harhas, guarda de las vestiduras, la cual moraba en Jerusalén en la casa de la doctrina, y hablaron con ella.

15 T hen she said to them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me,

Y ella les dijo: Así dice el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Decid al varón que os envió a mí:

16 “ Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants—all the words of the book which the king of Judah has read—

Así dice el SEÑOR: He aquí yo traigo mal sobre este lugar, y sobre los que en él moran, a saber, todas las palabras del libro que ha leído el rey de Judá;

17 b ecause they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath shall be aroused against this place and shall not be quenched.’”’

por cuanto me dejaron a mí, y quemaron incienso a dioses ajenos, provocándome a ira en toda obra de sus manos; y mi furor se ha encendido contra este lugar, y no se apagará.

18 B ut as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “ Concerning the words which you have heard—

Mas al rey de Judá que os ha enviado para que preguntaseis al SEÑOR, diréis así: Así dice el SEÑOR Dios de Israel: Por cuanto oíste las palabras del libro,

19 b ecause your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before the Lord when you heard what I spoke against this place and against its inhabitants, that they would become a desolation and a curse, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you, ” says the Lord.

y tu corazón se enterneció, y te humillaste delante del SEÑOR, cuando oíste lo que yo he pronunciado contra este lugar y contra sus moradores, que serían asolados y malditos, y rasgaste tus vestidos, y lloraste en mi presencia, también yo te he oído, dice el SEÑOR.

20 “ Surely, therefore, I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place.”’” So they brought back word to the king.

Por tanto, he aquí yo te recogeré con tus padres, y tú serás llevado a tu sepulcro en paz, y no verán tus ojos todo el mal que yo traigo sobre este lugar. Y ellos dieron al rey la respuesta.
