1 S o Joab the son of Zeruiah perceived that the king’s heart was concerned about Absalom.

¶ Y conociendo Joab hijo de Sarvia, que el corazón del rey estaba por Absalón,

2 A nd Joab sent to Tekoa and brought from there a wise woman, and said to her, “Please pretend to be a mourner, and put on mourning apparel; do not anoint yourself with oil, but act like a woman who has been mourning a long time for the dead.

envió Joab a Tecoa, y tomó de allá una mujer astuta, y le dijo: Yo te ruego que te enlutes, y te vistas de ropas de luto, y no te unjas con óleo, antes sé como mujer que hace mucho tiempo que trae luto por algún muerto;

3 G o to the king and speak to him in this manner.” So Joab put the words in her mouth.

y entrando al rey, habla con él de esta manera. Y puso Joab las palabras en su boca.

4 A nd when the woman of Tekoa spoke to the king, she fell on her face to the ground and prostrated herself, and said, “Help, O king!”

Entró pues aquella mujer de Tecoa al rey, y postrándose en tierra sobre su rostro adoró, y dijo: Oh rey, salve.

5 T hen the king said to her, “What troubles you?” And she answered, “Indeed I am a widow, my husband is dead.

Y el rey dijo: ¿Qué tienes? Y ella respondió: Yo soy una mujer viuda y mi marido ha muerto.

6 N ow your maidservant had two sons; and the two fought with each other in the field, and there was no one to part them, but the one struck the other and killed him.

Y tu sierva tenía dos hijos y los dos riñeron en el campo; y no habiendo quien los separara, hirió el uno al otro, y lo mató.

7 A nd now the whole family has risen up against your maidservant, and they said, ‘Deliver him who struck his brother, that we may execute him for the life of his brother whom he killed; and we will destroy the heir also.’ So they would extinguish my ember that is left, and leave to my husband neither name nor remnant on the earth.”

Y he aquí toda la parentela se ha levantado contra tu sierva, diciendo: Entrega al que mató a su hermano, para que le hagamos morir por la vida de su hermano a quien él mató, y quitemos también el heredero. Así apagarán el ascua que me ha quedado, no dejando a mi marido nombre ni reliquia sobre la tierra.

8 T hen the king said to the woman, “Go to your house, and I will give orders concerning you.”

Entonces el rey dijo a la mujer: Vete a tu casa, que yo mandaré acerca de ti.

9 A nd the woman of Tekoa said to the king, “My lord, O king, let the iniquity be on me and on my father’s house, and the king and his throne be guiltless.”

Y la mujer de Tecoa dijo al rey: Rey señor mío, la iniquidad sea sobre mí y sobre la casa de mi padre; mas el rey y su trono sin culpa.

10 S o the king said, “Whoever says anything to you, bring him to me, and he shall not touch you anymore.”

Y el rey dijo: Al que hablare contra ti, tráelo a mí, que no te tocará más.

11 T hen she said, “Please let the king remember the Lord your God, and do not permit the avenger of blood to destroy anymore, lest they destroy my son.” And he said, “ As the Lord lives, not one hair of your son shall fall to the ground.”

Dijo ella entonces: Te ruego, oh rey, que te acuerdes del SEÑOR tu Dios, que no dejes a los vengadores de la sangre aumentar el daño con destruir a mi hijo. Y él respondió: Vive el SEÑOR, que no caerá ni un cabello de la cabeza de tu hijo en tierra.

12 T herefore the woman said, “Please, let your maidservant speak another word to my lord the king.” And he said, “Say on.”

Y la mujer dijo: Te ruego que hable tu criada una palabra a mi señor el rey. Y él dijo: Habla.

13 S o the woman said: “Why then have you schemed such a thing against the people of God? For the king speaks this thing as one who is guilty, in that the king does not bring his banished one home again.

Entonces la mujer dijo: ¿Por qué pues piensas tú otro tanto contra el pueblo de Dios? Que hablando el rey esta palabra, es como culpado, por cuanto el rey no hace volver a su fugitivo.

14 F or we will surely die and become like water spilled on the ground, which cannot be gathered up again. Yet God does not take away a life; but He devises means, so that His banished ones are not expelled from Him.

Porque de cierto morimos, y somos como aguas derramadas por tierra, que no pueden volver a recogerse; ni Dios hace acepción de personas, mas busca la manera para no echar de si al desechado.

15 N ow therefore, I have come to speak of this thing to my lord the king because the people have made me afraid. And your maidservant said, ‘I will now speak to the king; it may be that the king will perform the request of his maidservant.

Y que yo he venido ahora para decir esto al rey mi señor, es porque el pueblo me ha puesto miedo. Mas tu sierva dijo en si: Hablaré ahora al rey; por ventura hará el rey la palabra de su sierva.

16 F or the king will hear and deliver his maidservant from the hand of the man who would destroy me and my son together from the inheritance of God.’

Pues el rey oirá, para librar a su sierva de mano del hombre que me quiere raer a mí, y a mi hijo juntamente, de la heredad de Dios.

17 Y our maidservant said, ‘The word of my lord the king will now be comforting; for as the angel of God, so is my lord the king in discerning good and evil. And may the Lord your God be with you.’”

Tu sierva pues dice: Que sea ahora la respuesta de mi señor el rey para descanso; pues que mi señor el rey es como un ángel de Dios para discernir el bien y el mal, y el SEÑOR tu Dios sea contigo.

18 T hen the king answered and said to the woman, “Please do not hide from me anything that I ask you.” And the woman said, “Please, let my lord the king speak.”

Entonces el rey respondió, y dijo a la mujer: Yo te ruego que no me encubras nada de lo que yo te preguntare. Y la mujer dijo: Hable mi señor el rey.

19 S o the king said, “ Is the hand of Joab with you in all this?” And the woman answered and said, “ As you live, my lord the king, no one can turn to the right hand or to the left from anything that my lord the king has spoken. For your servant Joab commanded me, and he put all these words in the mouth of your maidservant.

Y el rey dijo: ¿No ha sido la mano de Joab contigo en todas estas cosas? Y la mujer respondió y dijo: Por la vida de tu alma, rey señor mío, que no hay que apartarse a derecha ni a izquierda de todo lo que mi señor el rey ha hablado; porque tu siervo Joab, él me mandó, y él puso en boca de tu sierva todas estas palabras;

20 T o bring about this change of affairs your servant Joab has done this thing; but my lord is wise, according to the wisdom of the angel of God, to know everything that is in the earth.”

y que trocara la forma de las palabras, Joab tu siervo lo ha hecho; mas mi señor es sabio, conforme a la sabiduría de un ángel de Dios, para saber lo que se hace en la tierra.

21 A nd the king said to Joab, “All right, I have granted this thing. Go therefore, bring back the young man Absalom.”

¶ Entonces el rey dijo a Joab: He aquí yo hice esto; por tanto ve, y haz volver al joven Absalón.

22 T hen Joab fell to the ground on his face and bowed himself, and thanked the king. And Joab said, “Today your servant knows that I have found favor in your sight, my lord, O king, in that the king has fulfilled the request of his servant.”

Y Joab se postró en tierra sobre su rostro, y adoró, y bendijo al rey, y dijo: Hoy ha entendido tu siervo que he hallado gracia en tus ojos, rey señor mío; pues que ha hecho el rey la palabra de su siervo.

23 S o Joab arose and went to Geshur, and brought Absalom to Jerusalem.

Se levantó luego Joab, y fue a Gesur, y volvió a Absalón a Jerusalén.

24 A nd the king said, “Let him return to his own house, but do not let him see my face.” So Absalom returned to his own house, but did not see the king’s face. David Forgives Absalom

Mas el rey dijo: Váyase a su casa, y no vea mi rostro. Y Absalón volvió a su casa, y no vio el rostro del rey.

25 N ow in all Israel there was no one who was praised as much as Absalom for his good looks. From the sole of his foot to the crown of his head there was no blemish in him.

Y no había varón en todo Israel tan hermoso como Absalón, de alabar en gran manera; desde la planta de su pie hasta la coronilla no había en él defecto.

26 A nd when he cut the hair of his head—at the end of every year he cut it because it was heavy on him—when he cut it, he weighed the hair of his head at two hundred shekels according to the king’s standard.

Y cuando se afeitaba la cabeza (lo cual lo afeitaba al fin de cada año, pues le causaba molestia, y por eso se lo afeitaba), pesaba el cabello de su cabeza doscientos siclos según el peso del rey.

27 T o Absalom were born three sons, and one daughter whose name was Tamar. She was a woman of beautiful appearance.

Y le nacieron a Absalón tres hijos, y una hija que se llamó Tamar, la cual era hermosa de ver.

28 A nd Absalom dwelt two full years in Jerusalem, but did not see the king’s face.

¶ Y estuvo Absalón por espacio de dos años en Jerusalén, y no vio el rostro del rey.

29 T herefore Absalom sent for Joab, to send him to the king, but he would not come to him. And when he sent again the second time, he would not come.

Y mandó Absalón por Joab, para enviarlo al rey; mas no quiso venir a él; ni aunque envió por segunda vez, quiso él venir.

30 S o he said to his servants, “See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he has barley there; go and set it on fire.” And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.

Entonces dijo a sus siervos: Bien sabéis las tierras de Joab junto a mi lugar, donde tiene sus cebadas; id, y prenderles fuego; y los siervos de Absalón prendieron fuego a las tierras.

31 T hen Joab arose and came to Absalom’s house, and said to him, “Why have your servants set my field on fire?”

Se levantó por tanto Joab, y vino a Absalón a su casa, y le dijo: ¿Por qué han puesto fuego tus siervos a mis tierras?

32 A nd Absalom answered Joab, “Look, I sent to you, saying, ‘Come here, so that I may send you to the king, to say, “Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.”’ Now therefore, let me see the king’s face; but if there is iniquity in me, let him execute me.”

Y Absalón respondió a Joab: He aquí, yo he enviado por ti, diciendo que vinieras acá, a fin de enviarte yo al rey a que le dijeras: ¿Para qué vine de Gesur? Mejor me fuera estar aún allá. Vea yo ahora la cara del rey; y si hay en mí iniquidad, máteme.

33 S o Joab went to the king and told him. And when he had called for Absalom, he came to the king and bowed himself on his face to the ground before the king. Then the king kissed Absalom.

Vino, pues, Joab al rey, y se lo hizo saber. Entonces llamó a Absalón, el cual vino al rey, e inclinó su rostro a tierra delante del rey; y el rey besó a Absalón.
