1 A nd certain men came down from Judea and taught the brethren, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

¶ Entonces algunos que venían de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos: Que si no os circuncidáis conforme al rito de Moisés, no podéis ser salvos.

2 T herefore, when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and dispute with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas and certain others of them should go up to Jerusalem, to the apostles and elders, about this question.

Así que, suscitada una disensión y contienda no pequeña a Pablo y a Bernabé contra ellos, determinaron que subieran Pablo y Bernabé a Jerusalén, y algunos otros de ellos, a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, sobre esta cuestión.

3 S o, being sent on their way by the church, they passed through Phoenicia and Samaria, describing the conversion of the Gentiles; and they caused great joy to all the brethren.

Ellos, pues, habiendo sido acompañados de algunos de la Iglesia, pasaron por Fenicia y Samaria, contando la conversión de los gentiles; y daban gran gozo a todos los hermanos.

4 A nd when they had come to Jerusalem, they were received by the church and the apostles and the elders; and they reported all things that God had done with them.

Y llegados a Jerusalén, fueron recibidos por la Iglesia y por los apóstoles y por los ancianos; y refirieron todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con ellos.

5 B ut some of the sect of the Pharisees who believed rose up, saying, “It is necessary to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses.” The Jerusalem Council

Mas algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían creído, se levantaron, diciendo: Que es necesario circuncidarlos, y mandarles que guarden la ley de Moisés.

6 N ow the apostles and elders came together to consider this matter.

¶ Y se juntaron los apóstoles y los ancianos para conocer de este negocio.

7 A nd when there had been much dispute, Peter rose up and said to them: “Men and brethren, you know that a good while ago God chose among us, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel and believe.

Y después de grande contienda, levantándose Pedro, les dijo: Varones hermanos, vosotros sabéis cómo ya hace algún tiempo que Dios escogió que los gentiles oyeran por mi boca la Palabra del Evangelio, y creyeran.

8 S o God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us,

Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, les dio testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo también como a nosotros;

9 a nd made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith.

y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando con la fe sus corazones.

10 N ow therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Ahora pues, ¿por qué tentáis a Dios, poniendo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos yugo, que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar?

11 B ut we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”

Antes por la gracia del Señor Jesús, el Cristo, creemos que seremos salvos, como también ellos.

12 T hen all the multitude kept silent and listened to Barnabas and Paul declaring how many miracles and wonders God had worked through them among the Gentiles.

Entonces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron a Bernabé y a Pablo, que contaban cuán grandes maravillas y señales Dios había hecho por ellos entre los gentiles.

13 A nd after they had become silent, James answered, saying, “Men and brethren, listen to me:

Y después que ellos callaron, Jacobo respondió, diciendo: Varones hermanos, oídme:

14 S imon has declared how God at the first visited the Gentiles to take out of them a people for His name.

Simón ha contado cómo Dios primero visitó a los gentiles, para tomar de ellos pueblo para su Nombre;

15 A nd with this the words of the prophets agree, just as it is written:

y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, como está escrito:

16 ‘ After this I will return And will rebuild the tabernacle of David, which has fallen down; I will rebuild its ruins, And I will set it up;

Después de esto volveré y restauraré el tabernáculo de David, que estaba caído; y repararé sus ruinas, y lo volveré a levantar;

17 S o that the rest of mankind may seek the L ord, Even all the Gentiles who are called by My name, Says the Lord who does all these things.’

para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los gentiles, sobre los cuales es llamado mi nombre, dice el Señor, que hace todas estas cosas.

18 “ Known to God from eternity are all His works.

Conocidas son a Dios desde el siglo todas sus obras.

19 T herefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God,

Por lo cual yo juzgo, que los que de los gentiles se convierten a Dios, no han de ser inquietados;

20 b ut that we write to them to abstain from things polluted by idols, from sexual immorality, from things strangled, and from blood.

sino escribirles que se aparten de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, y de fornicación, y de lo ahogado, y de sangre.

21 F or Moses has had throughout many generations those who preach him in every city, being read in the synagogues every Sabbath.” The Jerusalem Decree

Porque Moisés desde los tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien le predique en las sinagogas, donde es leído cada sábado.

22 T hen it pleased the apostles and elders, with the whole church, to send chosen men of their own company to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas, namely, Judas who was also named Barsabas, and Silas, leading men among the brethren.

¶ Entonces pareció bien a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, con toda la Iglesia, enviar varones escogidos de entre ellos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé; a Judas que tenía por sobrenombre Barsabás, y a Silas, varones principales entre los hermanos;

23 T hey wrote this letter by them: The apostles, the elders, and the brethren, To the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch, Syria, and Cilicia: Greetings.

y escribir por mano de ellos: Los apóstoles y los ancianos y los hermanos, a los hermanos de los gentiles que están en Antioquía, y en Siria, y en Cilicia, salud:

24 S ince we have heard that some who went out from us have troubled you with words, unsettling your souls, saying, “ You must be circumcised and keep the law” —to whom we gave no such commandment—

Por cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, os han inquietado con palabras, trastornando vuestras almas, mandando circunci-daros y guardar la ley, a los cuales no mandamos;

25 i t seemed good to us, being assembled with one accord, to send chosen men to you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

nos ha parecido, congregados en uno, enviar varones escogidos a vosotros con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo,

26 m en who have risked their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

hombres que han expuesto sus vidas por el Nombre de nuestro Señor Jesús, el Cristo.

27 W e have therefore sent Judas and Silas, who will also report the same things by word of mouth.

Así que, enviamos a Judas y a Silas, los cuales también por palabra os harán saber lo mismo.

28 F or it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

Que ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo, y a nosotros, no imponeros ninguna carga más que estas cosas necesarias:

29 t hat you abstain from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality. If you keep yourselves from these, you will do well. Farewell. Continuing Ministry in Syria

Que os abstengáis de cosas sacrificadas a ídolos, y de sangre, y de lo ahogado, y de fornicación; de las cuales cosas si os guardareis, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien.

30 S o when they were sent off, they came to Antioch; and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the letter.

Ellos entonces despedidos, descendieron a Antioquía; y juntando la multitud, dieron la carta.

31 W hen they had read it, they rejoiced over its encouragement.

La cual, como leyeron, fueron gozosos de la consolación.

32 N ow Judas and Silas, themselves being prophets also, exhorted and strengthened the brethren with many words.

Judas y Silas, como ellos también eran profetas, consolaron y confirmaron a los hermanos con abundancia de palabra.

33 A nd after they had stayed there for a time, they were sent back with greetings from the brethren to the apostles.

Y pasando allí algún tiempo, fueron enviados de los hermanos a los apóstoles en paz.

34 H owever, it seemed good to Silas to remain there.

Mas a Silas pareció bien el quedarse allí.

35 P aul and Barnabas also remained in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. Division over John Mark

Y Pablo y Bernabé se estaban en Antioquía, enseñando la palabra del Señor y anunciando el Evangelio con otros muchos.

36 T hen after some days Paul said to Barnabas, “Let us now go back and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the Lord, and see how they are doing.”

¶ Y después de algunos días, Pablo dijo a Bernabé: Volvamos a visitar a los hermanos por todas las ciudades en las cuales hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, para ver cómo están.

37 N ow Barnabas was determined to take with them John called Mark.

Y Bernabé quería que tomaran consigo a Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos;

38 B ut Paul insisted that they should not take with them the one who had departed from them in Pamphylia, and had not gone with them to the work.

mas a Pablo no le parecía bien llevar consigo al que se había apartado de ellos desde Panfilia, y no había ido con ellos a la obra.

39 T hen the contention became so sharp that they parted from one another. And so Barnabas took Mark and sailed to Cyprus;

Y hubo tal contención entre ellos, que se apartaron el uno del otro; y Bernabé tomando a Marcos, navegó a Chipre.

40 b ut Paul chose Silas and departed, being commended by the brethren to the grace of God.

Y Pablo escogiendo a Silas, salió encomendado de los hermanos a la gracia del Señor.

41 A nd he went through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches.

Y anduvo la Siria y la Cilicia, confirmando a las Iglesias.
