1 T hen Elisha said, “Hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord: ‘Tomorrow about this time a seah of fine flour shall be sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, at the gate of Samaria.’”

Dijo entonces Eliseo: Oíd palabra del SEÑOR: Así dijo el SEÑOR: Mañana a estas horas valdrá el seah de flor de harina un siclo, y dos seah de cebada un siclo, a la puerta de Samaria.

2 S o an officer on whose hand the king leaned answered the man of God and said, “Look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could this thing be?” And he said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.” The Syrians Flee

Y un capitán sobre cuya mano el rey se apoyaba, respondió al varón de Dios, y dijo: Si el SEÑOR hiciera ahora ventanas en el cielo, ¿sería esto así? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello.

3 N ow there were four leprous men at the entrance of the gate; and they said to one another, “Why are we sitting here until we die?

Y había cuatro hombres leprosos a la entrada de la puerta, los cuales dijeron el uno al otro: ¿Para qué nos estamos aquí hasta que muramos?

4 I f we say, ‘We will enter the city,’ the famine is in the city, and we shall die there. And if we sit here, we die also. Now therefore, come, let us surrender to the army of the Syrians. If they keep us alive, we shall live; and if they kill us, we shall only die.”

Si hablaremos de entrar en la ciudad, por el hambre que hay en la ciudad moriremos en ella; y si nos quedamos aquí, también moriremos. Vamos, pues, ahora, y pasémonos al ejército de los Sirios; si ellos nos dieren la vida, viviremos; y si nos dieren la muerte, moriremos.

5 A nd they rose at twilight to go to the camp of the Syrians; and when they had come to the outskirts of the Syrian camp, to their surprise no one was there.

Se levantaron, pues, en el principio de la noche, para irse al campamento de los sirios; y llegando a las primeras estancias de los sirios, no había allí hombre.

6 F or the Lord had caused the army of the Syrians to hear the noise of chariots and the noise of horses—the noise of a great army; so they said to one another, “Look, the king of Israel has hired against us the kings of the Hittites and the kings of the Egyptians to attack us!”

Porque el Señor había hecho que en el campamento de los sirios se oyera estruendo de carros, ruido de caballos, y estrépito de gran ejército; y se dijeron los unos a los otros: He aquí el rey de Israel ha pagado contra nosotros a los reyes de los heteos, y a los reyes de los egipcios, para que vengan contra nosotros.

7 T herefore they arose and fled at twilight, and left the camp intact—their tents, their horses, and their donkeys—and they fled for their lives.

Y así se habían levantado y huido al principio de la noche, dejando sus tiendas, sus caballos, sus asnos, y el campamento como se estaba; y habían huido para salvar las vidas.

8 A nd when these lepers came to the outskirts of the camp, they went into one tent and ate and drank, and carried from it silver and gold and clothing, and went and hid them; then they came back and entered another tent, and carried some from there also, and went and hid it.

Y cuando los leprosos llegaron a las primeras estancias, entraron en una tienda, y comieron y bebieron, y tomaron de allí plata, oro, y vestido, y fueron, y lo escondieron; y vueltos, entraron en otra tienda, y de allí también tomaron, y fueron, y escondieron.

9 T hen they said to one another, “We are not doing right. This day is a day of good news, and we remain silent. If we wait until morning light, some punishment will come upon us. Now therefore, come, let us go and tell the king’s household.”

Y se dijeron el uno al otro: No hacemos bien; hoy es día de dar la buena nueva, y nosotros callamos; y si esperamos hasta la luz de la mañana, seremos tomados en la iniquidad. Vamos pues, ahora, entremos y demos la nueva en casa del rey.

10 S o they went and called to the gatekeepers of the city, and told them, saying, “We went to the Syrian camp, and surprisingly no one was there, not a human sound—only horses and donkeys tied, and the tents intact.”

Y vinieron, y dieron voces a los guardas de la puerta de la ciudad, y les declararon, diciendo: Nosotros fuimos al campamento de los sirios, y he aquí que no había allí hombre, ni voz de hombre, sino los caballos atados, los asnos atados, y el campamento como estaba.

11 A nd the gatekeepers called out, and they told it to the king’s household inside.

Y los porteros dieron voces, y lo declararon dentro, en la casa del rey.

12 S o the king arose in the night and said to his servants, “Let me now tell you what the Syrians have done to us. They know that we are hungry; therefore they have gone out of the camp to hide themselves in the field, saying, ‘When they come out of the city, we shall catch them alive, and get into the city.’”

Y se levantó el rey de noche, y dijo a sus siervos: Yo os declararé lo que nos han hecho los sirios. Ellos saben que tenemos hambre, y han salido de las tiendas y se han escondido en el campo, diciendo: Cuando hubieren salido de la ciudad, los tomaremos vivos, y entraremos en la ciudad.

13 A nd one of his servants answered and said, “Please, let several men take five of the remaining horses which are left in the city. Look, they may either become like all the multitude of Israel that are left in it; or indeed, I say, they may become like all the multitude of Israel left from those who are consumed; so let us send them and see.”

Entonces respondió uno de sus siervos, y dijo: Tomen ahora cinco de los caballos que han quedado en la ciudad, (porque ellos también son como toda la multitud de Israel que ha quedado en ella; también ellos son como toda la multitud de Israel que ha perecido); y enviemos, y veamos qué hay.

14 T herefore they took two chariots with horses; and the king sent them in the direction of the Syrian army, saying, “Go and see.”

Tomaron pues dos caballos de un carro, y envió el rey tras el campamento de los sirios, diciendo: Id, y ved.

15 A nd they went after them to the Jordan; and indeed all the road was full of garments and weapons which the Syrians had thrown away in their haste. So the messengers returned and told the king.

Y ellos fueron, y los siguieron hasta el Jordán; y he aquí, todo el camino estaba lleno de vestidos y de vasos que los sirios habían arrojado con la premura. Y volvieron los mensajeros, y lo hicieron saber al rey.

16 T hen the people went out and plundered the tents of the Syrians. So a seah of fine flour was sold for a shekel, and two seahs of barley for a shekel, according to the word of the Lord.

Entonces el pueblo salió, y saquearon el campamento, de los sirios. Y fue vendido un seah de flor de harina por un siclo, y dos seah de cebada por un siclo, conforme a la palabra del SEÑOR.

17 N ow the king had appointed the officer on whose hand he leaned to have charge of the gate. But the people trampled him in the gate, and he died, just as the man of God had said, who spoke when the king came down to him.

¶ Y el rey puso a la puerta a aquel príncipe sobre cuya mano él se apoyaba; y le atropelló el pueblo a la entrada, y murió, conforme a lo que había dicho el varón de Dios, lo que habló cuando el rey descendió a él.

18 S o it happened just as the man of God had spoken to the king, saying, “Two seahs of barley for a shekel, and a seah of fine flour for a shekel, shall be sold tomorrow about this time in the gate of Samaria.”

Aconteció, pues, de la manera que el varón de Dios había hablado al rey, diciendo: Dos seah de cebada por un siclo, y el seah de flor de harina será vendido por un siclo mañana a estas horas, a la puerta de Samaria.

19 T hen that officer had answered the man of God, and said, “Now look, if the Lord would make windows in heaven, could such a thing be?” And he had said, “In fact, you shall see it with your eyes, but you shall not eat of it.”

A lo cual aquel príncipe había respondido al varón de Dios, diciendo: Aunque el SEÑOR hiciera ventanas en el cielo, ¿pudiera ser eso? Y él dijo: He aquí tú lo verás con tus ojos, mas no comerás de ello.

20 A nd so it happened to him, for the people trampled him in the gate, and he died.

Y le sucedió así; porque el pueblo le atropelló a la entrada, y murió.
