1 I n the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and made a covenant with the captains of hundreds: Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, Azariah the son of Obed, Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri.

Mas el séptimo año se animó Joiada, y tomó a los centuriones, a Azarías hijo de Jeroham, a Ismael hijo de Johanán, a Azarías hijo de Obed, a Maasías hijo de Adaía, y a Elisafat hijo de Zicri, y entró en pacto con ellos;

2 A nd they went throughout Judah and gathered the Levites from all the cities of Judah, and the chief fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

los cuales rodeando Judá, juntaron a los levitas de todas las ciudades de Judá, y a las cabezas de los padres de Israel, y vinieron a Jerusalén.

3 T hen all the assembly made a covenant with the king in the house of God. And he said to them, “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as the Lord has said of the sons of David.

Y toda la congregación hizo pacto con el rey en la Casa de Dios. Y él les dijo: He aquí el hijo del rey, el cual reinará, como el SEÑOR lo tiene dicho de los hijos de David.

4 T his is what you shall do: One-third of you entering on the Sabbath, of the priests and the Levites, shall be keeping watch over the doors;

Lo que habéis de hacer es: la tercera parte de vosotros, los que entran el sábado, estarán de porteros a las puertas con los sacerdotes y los levitas;

5 o ne-third shall be at the king’s house; and one-third at the Gate of the Foundation. All the people shall be in the courts of the house of the Lord.

una tercera parte, a la casa del rey; y otra tercera parte, a la puerta del Cimiento; y todo el pueblo estará en los atrios de la Casa del SEÑOR.

6 B ut let no one come into the house of the Lord except the priests and those of the Levites who serve. They may go in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the watch of the Lord.

Y ninguno entre en la Casa del SEÑOR, sino los sacerdotes y los levitas que sirven; éstos entrarán, porque son santos; y todo el pueblo hará la guardia del SEÑOR.

7 A nd the Levites shall surround the king on all sides, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whoever comes into the house, let him be put to death. You are to be with the king when he comes in and when he goes out.”

Y los levitas rodearán al rey por todas partes, y cada uno tendrá sus armas en la mano; y cualquier extraño que entrare en la Casa, morirá; y estaréis con el rey cuando entrare, y cuando saliere.

8 S o the Levites and all Judah did according to all that Jehoiada the priest commanded. And each man took his men who were to be on duty on the Sabbath, with those who were going off duty on the Sabbath; for Jehoiada the priest had not dismissed the divisions.

Y los levitas y todo Judá lo hicieron todo como lo había mandado el sacerdote Joiada; y tomó cada uno los suyos, los que entraban el sábado, y los que salían el sábado; porque el sacerdote Joiada no dio licencia a las compañías.

9 A nd Jehoiada the priest gave to the captains of hundreds the spears and the large and small shields which had belonged to King David, that were in the temple of God.

Dio también el sacerdote Joiada a los centuriones las lanzas, los paveses y los escudos que habían sido del rey David, que estaban en la Casa de Dios;

10 T hen he set all the people, every man with his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the temple to the left side of the temple, along by the altar and by the temple, all around the king.

y puso en orden a todo el pueblo, teniendo cada uno su espada en la mano, desde el rincón derecho de la Casa hasta el izquierdo, hacia el altar y la Casa, en derredor del rey por todas partes.

11 A nd they brought out the king’s son, put the crown on him, gave him the Testimony, and made him king. Then Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, “ Long live the king!” Death of Athaliah

Entonces sacaron al hijo del rey, y le pusieron la corona y el Testimonio, y le hicieron rey; y Joiada y sus hijos lo ungieron, diciendo: ¡Viva el rey!

12 N ow when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people in the temple of the Lord.

Y cuando Atalía oyó el estruendo del pueblo que corría, y de los que alababan al rey, vino al pueblo en la Casa del SEÑOR;

13 W hen she looked, there was the king standing by his pillar at the entrance; and the leaders and the trumpeters were by the king. All the people of the land were rejoicing and blowing trumpets, also the singers with musical instruments, and those who led in praise. So Athaliah tore her clothes and said, “Treason! Treason!”

y mirando, vio al rey que estaba junto a su columna a la entrada, y los príncipes y los trompetas junto al rey, y que todo el pueblo de la tierra hacía alegrías, y sonaban las trompetas, y cantaban con instrumentos de música los que sabían alabar. Entonces Atalía rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo: ¡Conjuración, conjuración!

14 A nd Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds who were set over the army, and said to them, “Take her outside under guard, and slay with the sword whoever follows her.” For the priest had said, “Do not kill her in the house of the Lord.”

Y sacando el sumo sacerdote Joiada los centuriones y capitanes del ejército, les dijo: Sacadla fuera de la Casa; y el que la siguiere, muera a espada; porque el sacerdote había mandado que no la mataran en la Casa del SEÑOR.

15 S o they seized her; and she went by way of the entrance of the Horse Gate into the king’s house, and they killed her there.

Y ellos pusieron las manos en ella, y ella entró en la entrada de la puerta de los caballos de la casa del rey, y allí la mataron.

16 T hen Jehoiada made a covenant between himself, the people, and the king, that they should be the Lord ’s people.

¶ Y Joiada hizo pacto entre sí y todo el pueblo y el rey, que serían pueblo del SEÑOR.

17 A nd all the people went to the temple of Baal, and tore it down. They broke in pieces its altars and images, and killed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

Después de esto llegó todo el pueblo a la casa de Baal, y lo derribaron, y también sus altares; y quebraron sus imágenes, y mataron delante de los altares a Matán, sacerdote de Baal.

18 A lso Jehoiada appointed the oversight of the house of the Lord to the hand of the priests, the Levites, whom David had assigned in the house of the Lord, to offer the burnt offerings of the Lord, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was established by David.

Luego ordenó Joiada los oficios en la Casa del SEÑOR bajo la mano de los sacerdotes levitas, según David los había distribuido en la Casa del SEÑOR, para ofrecer al SEÑOR los holocaustos, como está escrito en la ley de Moisés, con gozo y cantares, conforme a la ordenación de David.

19 A nd he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the house of the Lord, so that no one who was in any way unclean should enter.

Puso también porteros a las puertas de la Casa del SEÑOR, para que por ninguna vía entrara ningún inmundo.

20 T hen he took the captains of hundreds, the nobles, the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and brought the king down from the house of the Lord; and they went through the Upper Gate to the king’s house, and set the king on the throne of the kingdom.

Tomó después los centuriones, y los principales, y los que gobernaban el pueblo; y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, y llevó al rey desde la Casa del SEÑOR; y viniendo por medio de la puerta mayor de la casa del rey, sentaron al rey sobre el trono del reino.

21 S o all the people of the land rejoiced; and the city was quiet, for they had slain Athaliah with the sword.

Y todo el pueblo del país hizo alegrías; y la ciudad tuvo reposo; después que mataron a Atalía a espada.
