1 G ive ear, O my people, to my law; Incline your ears to the words of my mouth.

Escucha, pueblo mío, mi ley; inclinad vuestro oído a las palabras de mi boca.

2 I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old,

Abriré mi boca en parábola; hablaré enigmas del tiempo antiguo.

3 W hich we have heard and known, And our fathers have told us.

Las cuales hemos oído y entendido; que nuestros padres nos las contaron.

4 W e will not hide them from their children, Telling to the generation to come the praises of the Lord, And His strength and His wonderful works that He has done.

No las encubriremos a sus hijos, contando a la generación venidera las alabanzas del SEÑOR, y su fortaleza, y sus maravillas que hizo.

5 F or He established a testimony in Jacob, And appointed a law in Israel, Which He commanded our fathers, That they should make them known to their children;

El estableció testimonio en Jacob, y puso ley en Israel; las cuales mandó a nuestros padres que las notificaran a sus hijos;

6 T hat the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,

para que lo sepa la generación venidera, y los hijos que nacerán; y los que se levantarán, lo cuenten a sus hijos

7 T hat they may set their hope in God, And not forget the works of God, But keep His commandments;

con el fin de poner su confianza en Dios, y no olvidar de las obras de Dios, y guardar sus mandamientos:

8 A nd may not be like their fathers, A stubborn and rebellious generation, A generation that did not set its heart aright, And whose spirit was not faithful to God.

Y no ser como sus padres, generación contumaz y rebelde; generación que no compuso su corazón, ni su espíritu fue fiel con Dios.

9 T he children of Ephraim, being armed and carrying bows, Turned back in the day of battle.

¶ Los hijos de Efraín armados, flecheros, volvieron las espaldas en el día de la batalla.

10 T hey did not keep the covenant of God; They refused to walk in His law,

No guardaron el pacto de Dios, ni quisieron andar en su ley;

11 A nd forgot His works And His wonders that He had shown them.

antes se olvidaron de sus obras, y de sus maravillas que les había mostrado.

12 M arvelous things He did in the sight of their fathers, In the land of Egypt, in the field of Zoan.

Delante de sus padres hizo maravillas en la tierra de Egipto, en el campo de Zoán.

13 H e divided the sea and caused them to pass through; And He made the waters stand up like a heap.

Rompió el mar, y los hizo pasar; e hizo estar las aguas como en un montón.

14 I n the daytime also He led them with the cloud, And all the night with a light of fire.

Y los llevó con nube de día, y toda la noche con resplandor de fuego.

15 H e split the rocks in the wilderness, And gave them drink in abundance like the depths.

Hendió las peñas en el desierto; y les dio a beber de abismos grandes;

16 H e also brought streams out of the rock, And caused waters to run down like rivers.

y sacó de la peña corrientes, e hizo descender aguas como ríos.

17 B ut they sinned even more against Him By rebelling against the Most High in the wilderness.

Pero aun tornaron a pecar contra él, enojando al Altísimo en la soledad.

18 A nd they tested God in their heart By asking for the food of their fancy.

Y tentaron a Dios en su corazón, pidiendo comida al gusto de su alma.

19 Y es, they spoke against God: They said, “Can God prepare a table in the wilderness?

Y hablaron contra Dios, diciendo: ¿Podrá Dios ponernos mesa en el desierto?

20 B ehold, He struck the rock, So that the waters gushed out, And the streams overflowed. Can He give bread also? Can He provide meat for His people?”

He aquí ha herido la peña, y corrieron aguas, y arroyos salieron ondeando: ¿Podrá también dar pan? ¿Aparejará carne a su pueblo?

21 T herefore the Lord heard this and was furious; So a fire was kindled against Jacob, And anger also came up against Israel,

Por tanto oyó el SEÑOR, y se enojó; se encendió el fuego contra Jacob, y el furor subió también contra Israel;

22 B ecause they did not believe in God, And did not trust in His salvation.

por cuanto no habían creído a Dios, ni habían confiado de su salud.

23 Y et He had commanded the clouds above, And opened the doors of heaven,

Y mandó a las nubes de arriba, y abrió las puertas de los cielos,

24 H ad rained down manna on them to eat, And given them of the bread of heaven.

e hizo llover sobre ellos maná para comer, y les dio trigo de los cielos.

25 M en ate angels’ food; He sent them food to the full.

Pan de fuertes comió el hombre; les envió comida en abundancia.

26 H e caused an east wind to blow in the heavens; And by His power He brought in the south wind.

Movió el solano en el cielo, y trajo con su fortaleza el austro,

27 H e also rained meat on them like the dust, Feathered fowl like the sand of the seas;

e hizo llover sobre ellos carne como polvo, y aves de alas como arena del mar.

28 A nd He let them fall in the midst of their camp, All around their dwellings.

Y las hizo caer en medio de su campamento, alrededor de sus tiendas.

29 S o they ate and were well filled, For He gave them their own desire.

Y comieron, y se llenaron bien; les cumplió pues su deseo.

30 T hey were not deprived of their craving; But while their food was still in their mouths,

No habían quitado de sí su deseo, aun estaba su vianda en su boca,

31 T he wrath of God came against them, And slew the stoutest of them, And struck down the choice men of Israel.

cuando vino sobre ellos el furor de Dios, y mató los más robustos de ellos, y derribó los escogidos de Israel.

32 I n spite of this they still sinned, And did not believe in His wondrous works.

Con todo esto pecaron aún, y no dieron crédito a sus maravillas.

33 T herefore their days He consumed in futility, And their years in fear.

Consumió por tanto sus días en vanidad, y sus años en tribulación.

34 W hen He slew them, then they sought Him; And they returned and sought earnestly for God.

Si los mataba, entonces le buscaban; y se convertían, y buscaban a Dios de mañana.

35 T hen they remembered that God was their rock, And the Most High God their Redeemer.

Y se acordaban que Dios era su refugio, y el Dios Alto su redentor.

36 N evertheless they flattered Him with their mouth, And they lied to Him with their tongue;

Mas le lisonjeaban con su boca, y con su lengua le mentían,

37 F or their heart was not steadfast with Him, Nor were they faithful in His covenant.

pues sus corazones no eran rectos con él, ni estuvieron firmes en su pacto.

38 B ut He, being full of compassion, forgave their iniquity, And did not destroy them. Yes, many a time He turned His anger away, And did not stir up all His wrath;

Pero él, misericordioso, perdonaba su iniquidad, y no los destruyó; y abundó su misericordia para apartar su ira, y no despertó toda su ira.

39 F or He remembered that they were but flesh, A breath that passes away and does not come again.

Y se acordó que eran carne; soplo que va y no vuelve.

40 H ow often they provoked Him in the wilderness, And grieved Him in the desert!

¶ ¡Cuántas veces lo ensañaron en el desierto, lo enojaron en la soledad!

41 Y es, again and again they tempted God, And limited the Holy One of Israel.

Y volvían, y tentaban a Dios, y ponían límite al Santo de Israel.

42 T hey did not remember His power: The day when He redeemed them from the enemy,

No se acordaron de su mano, del día que los rescató de angustia;

43 W hen He worked His signs in Egypt, And His wonders in the field of Zoan;

cuando puso en Egipto sus señales, y sus maravillas en el campo de Zoán;

44 T urned their rivers into blood, And their streams, that they could not drink.

y volvió sus ríos en sangre, y sus corrientes para que no bebieran.

45 H e sent swarms of flies among them, which devoured them, And frogs, which destroyed them.

Envió entre ellos enjambres de moscas que los comían, y ranas que los destruyeron.

46 H e also gave their crops to the caterpillar, And their labor to the locust.

Dio también al pulgón sus frutos, y sus trabajos a la langosta.

47 H e destroyed their vines with hail, And their sycamore trees with frost.

Sus viñas destruyó con granizo, y sus higuerales con piedra;

48 H e also gave up their cattle to the hail, And their flocks to fiery lightning.

y entregó al pedrisco sus bestias, y al fuego sus ganados.

49 H e cast on them the fierceness of His anger, Wrath, indignation, and trouble, By sending angels of destruction among them.

Envió sobre ellos el furor de su saña; ira, enojo, angustia, y ángeles malos.

50 H e made a path for His anger; He did not spare their soul from death, But gave their life over to the plague,

Dispuso el camino a su furor; no eximió el alma de ellos de la muerte, sino que entregó su vida a la mortandad.

51 A nd destroyed all the firstborn in Egypt, The first of their strength in the tents of Ham.

E hirió a todo primogénito en Egipto, las primicias de las fuerzas en las tiendas de Cam.

52 B ut He made His own people go forth like sheep, And guided them in the wilderness like a flock;

Hizo salir a su pueblo como ovejas, y los llevó por el desierto, como un rebaño.

53 A nd He led them on safely, so that they did not fear; But the sea overwhelmed their enemies.

Y los pastoreó con seguridad, que no tuvieron miedo; y el mar cubrió a sus enemigos.

54 A nd He brought them to His holy border, This mountain which His right hand had acquired.

Los metió después en los términos de su santidad, en este monte que ganó su mano derecha.

55 H e also drove out the nations before them, Allotted them an inheritance by survey, And made the tribes of Israel dwell in their tents.

Y echó los gentiles de delante de ellos, y les repartió una herencia con cuerdas; e hizo habitar en sus moradas a las tribus de Israel.

56 Y et they tested and provoked the Most High God, And did not keep His testimonies,

Mas tentaron y enojaron al Dios Altísimo, y no guardaron sus testimonios;

57 B ut turned back and acted unfaithfully like their fathers; They were turned aside like a deceitful bow.

sino que se volvieron, y se rebelaron como sus padres; se volvieron como arco engañoso.

58 F or they provoked Him to anger with their high places, And moved Him to jealousy with their carved images.

Y le enojaron con sus lugares altos, y le provocaron a celo con sus esculturas.

59 W hen God heard this, He was furious, And greatly abhorred Israel,

Lo oyó Dios, y se enojó, y en gran manera aborreció a Israel.

60 S o that He forsook the tabernacle of Shiloh, The tent He had placed among men,

Por esta causa dejó el tabernáculo de Silo, la tienda en que habitó entre los hombres;

61 A nd delivered His strength into captivity, And His glory into the enemy’s hand.

y dio en cautividad su fortaleza, y su gloria en mano del enemigo.

62 H e also gave His people over to the sword, And was furious with His inheritance.

Entregó también su pueblo a espada, y se airó contra su heredad.

63 T he fire consumed their young men, And their maidens were not given in marriage.

El fuego devoró sus jóvenes, y sus vírgenes no fueron loadas en cantos nupciales.

64 T heir priests fell by the sword, And their widows made no lamentation.

Sus sacerdotes cayeron a espada, y sus viudas no se lamentaron.

65 T hen the Lord awoke as from sleep, Like a mighty man who shouts because of wine.

Entonces despertó el Señor a la manera del que ha dormido, como un valiente que grita a causa del vino:

66 A nd He beat back His enemies; He put them to a perpetual reproach.

e hirió a sus enemigos en las partes posteriores; les dio perpetua afrenta.

67 M oreover He rejected the tent of Joseph, And did not choose the tribe of Ephraim,

Y aborreció la tienda de José, y no escogió la tribu de Efraín.

68 B ut chose the tribe of Judah, Mount Zion which He loved.

Sino que escogió la tribu de Judá, el monte de Sion, al cual amó.

69 A nd He built His sanctuary like the heights, Like the earth which He has established forever.

Y edificó su santuario a manera de eminencia, como la tierra que cimentó para siempre.

70 H e also chose David His servant, And took him from the sheepfolds;

Y eligió a David su siervo, y lo tomó de las majadas de las ovejas;

71 F rom following the ewes that had young He brought him, To shepherd Jacob His people, And Israel His inheritance.

de tras las paridas lo trajo, para que apacentara a Jacob su pueblo, y a Israel su heredad.

72 S o he shepherded them according to the integrity of his heart, And guided them by the skillfulness of his hands.

Y los apacentó con entereza de su corazón; y los pastoreó con la inteligencia de sus manos.
