1 S amuel also said to Saul, “The Lord sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the Lord.

¶ Y Samuel dijo a Saúl: el SEÑOR me envió a que te ungiera por rey sobre su pueblo Israel; oye, pues, la voz de las palabras del SEÑOR.

2 T hus says the Lord of hosts: ‘I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt.

Así dijo el SEÑOR de los ejércitos: Me acuerdo de lo que hizo Amalec a Israel; que se le opuso en el camino, cuando subía de Egipto.

3 N ow go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.’”

Ve pues, y hiere a Amalec, y destruiréis en él todo lo que tuviere; y no tengas piedad de él; mata hombres y mujeres, niños y mamantes, vacas y ovejas, camellos y asnos.

4 S o Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah.

Y Saúl juntó al pueblo, y los reconoció en Telaim, doscientos mil hombres de a pie, y diez mil varones de Judá.

5 A nd Saul came to a city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.

Y viniendo Saúl a la ciudad de Amalec, puso emboscada en el valle.

6 T hen Saul said to the Kenites, “Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt.” So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

Y dijo Saúl al ceneo: Idos, apartaos, y salid de entre los de Amalec, para que por ventura no te destruya juntamente con él; porque tú hiciste misericordia con todos los hijos de Israel, cuando subían de Egipto. Y el ceneo se apartó de entre los de Amalec.

7 A nd Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt.

Y Saúl hirió a Amalec, desde Havila hasta llegar a Shur, que está a la frontera de Egipto.

8 H e also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

Y tomó vivo a Agag rey de Amalec, mas a todo el pueblo mató a filo de espada.

9 B ut Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed. Saul Rejected as King

Y Saúl y el pueblo perdonaron a Agag, y a lo mejor de las ovejas, y al ganado mayor, a los gruesos y a los carneros, y finalmente a todo lo bueno, que no lo quisieron destruir; mas todo lo que era vil y flaco destruyeron.

10 N ow the word of the Lord came to Samuel, saying,

¶ Y vino palabra del SEÑOR a Samuel, diciendo:

11 “ I greatly regret that I have set up Saul as king, for he has turned back from following Me, and has not performed My commandments.” And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the Lord all night.

Me pesa de haber puesto por rey a Saúl, porque se ha vuelto de en pos de mí, y no ha cumplido mis palabras. Y pesó a Samuel, y clamó al SEÑOR toda aquella noche.

12 S o when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying, “Saul went to Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal.”

Y Samuel madrugó para ir a encontrar a Saúl por la mañana; y fue dado aviso a Samuel, diciendo: Saúl ha venido al Carmel, y he aquí él se ha levantado un monumento, y después volviendo, ha pasado y descendido a Gilgal.

13 T hen Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, “Blessed are you of the Lord! I have performed the commandment of the Lord.”

Vino, pues, Samuel a Saúl, y Saúl le dijo: Bendito seas tú del SEÑOR; yo he cumplido la palabra del SEÑOR.

14 B ut Samuel said, “What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?”

Samuel entonces dijo: ¿Pues qué balido de ovejas y bramido de bueyes es éste que yo oigo con mis oídos?

15 A nd Saul said, “They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the Lord your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.”

Y Saúl respondió: De Amalec los han traído; porque el pueblo perdonó lo mejor de las ovejas y de las vacas, para sacrificarlas al SEÑOR tu Dios; pero lo demás lo destruimos.

16 T hen Samuel said to Saul, “Be quiet! And I will tell you what the Lord said to me last night.” And he said to him, “Speak on.”

Entonces dijo Samuel a Saúl: Déjame declararte lo que el SEÑOR me ha dicho esta noche. Y él le respondió: Di.

17 S o Samuel said, “When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the Lord anoint you king over Israel?

Y dijo Samuel: Siendo tú pequeño en tus propios ojos ¿no has sido hecho cabeza a las tribus de Israel, y el SEÑOR te ha ungido por rey sobre Israel?

18 N ow the Lord sent you on a mission, and said, ‘Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.’

Y te envió el SEÑOR en jornada, y dijo: Ve, y destruye a los pecadores de Amalec, y hazles guerra hasta que los acabes.

19 W hy then did you not obey the voice of the Lord ? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the Lord ?”

¿Por qué, pues, no has oído la voz del SEÑOR? Antes vuelto al despojo, has hecho lo malo en los ojos del SEÑOR.

20 A nd Saul said to Samuel, “But I have obeyed the voice of the Lord, and gone on the mission on which the Lord sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

Y Saúl respondió a Samuel: Antes he oído la voz del SEÑOR, y fui a la jornada que el SEÑOR me envió, y he traído a Agag rey de Amalec, y he destruido a los amalecitas.

21 B ut the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the Lord your God in Gilgal.”

Mas el pueblo tomó del despojo ovejas y vacas, las primicias del anatema, para sacrificarlas al SEÑOR tu Dios en Gilgal.

22 S o Samuel said: “Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the Lord ? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.

Y Samuel dijo: ¿Tiene el SEÑOR tanto contentamiento con los holocaustos y víctimas, como en oír la palabra del SEÑOR? Ciertamente el oír es mejor que los sacrificios; y el escuchar que el sebo de los carneros.

23 F or rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the Lord, He also has rejected you from being king.”

Porque la rebelión es pecado de hechicería, e iniquidad e idolatría el quebrantar la palabra de Dios. Y por cuanto tú desechaste la palabra del SEÑOR, él también te ha desechado para que no seas rey.

24 T hen Saul said to Samuel, “I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the Lord and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

¶ Entonces Saúl dijo a Samuel: Yo he pecado; por cuanto he quebrantado el dicho del SEÑOR y tus palabras, porque temí al pueblo, consentí a la voz de ellos. Perdona, pues, ahora mi pecado,

25 N ow therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord.”

Y vuelve conmigo para que adore al SEÑOR.

26 B ut Samuel said to Saul, “I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the Lord, and the Lord has rejected you from being king over Israel.”

Y Samuel respondió a Saúl: No volveré contigo; porque desechaste la palabra del SEÑOR, y el SEÑOR te ha desechado para que no seas rey sobre Israel.

27 A nd as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore.

Y volviéndose Samuel para irse, él echó mano del canto de su capa, y se desgarró.

28 S o Samuel said to him, “The Lord has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

Entonces Samuel le dijo: el SEÑOR ha desgarrado hoy de ti el reino de Israel, y lo ha dado a tu prójimo mejor que tú.

29 A nd also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor relent. For He is not a man, that He should relent.”

Y también el Vencedor de Israel no mentirá, ni se arrepentirá acerca de esto; porque no es hombre para que deba arrepentirse.

30 T hen he said, “I have sinned; yet honor me now, please, before the elders of my people and before Israel, and return with me, that I may worship the Lord your God.”

Y él dijo: Yo he pecado; mas te ruego que me honres delante de los ancianos de mi pueblo, y delante de Israel; y vuelve conmigo para que adore al SEÑOR tu Dios.

31 S o Samuel turned back after Saul, and Saul worshiped the Lord.

Y volvió Samuel tras Saúl, y adoró Saúl al SEÑOR.

32 T hen Samuel said, “Bring Agag king of the Amalekites here to me.” So Agag came to him cautiously. And Agag said, “Surely the bitterness of death is past.”

¶ Después dijo Samuel: Traedme a Agag rey de Amalec. Y Agag vino a él delicadamente. Y dijo Agag: Ciertamente se acerca la amargura de la muerte.

33 B ut Samuel said, “As your sword has made women childless, so shall your mother be childless among women.” And Samuel hacked Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.

Y Samuel dijo: Como tu espada dejó las mujeres sin hijos, así tu madre será sin hijo entre las mujeres. Entonces Samuel cortó en pedazos a Agag delante del SEÑOR en Gilgal.

34 T hen Samuel went to Ramah, and Saul went up to his house at Gibeah of Saul.

Se fue luego Samuel a Ramá, y Saúl subió a su casa en Gabaa de Saúl.

35 A nd Samuel went no more to see Saul until the day of his death. Nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul, and the Lord regretted that He had made Saul king over Israel.

Y nunca más Samuel volvió a ver a Saúl en toda su vida; y Samuel lloraba a Saúl porque el SEÑOR se había arrepentido de haber puesto a Saúl por rey sobre Israel.
