1 ¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

El hijo sabio sigue el consejo de su padre; el burlón no hace caso de las reprensiones.

2 ¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

El hombre de bien se nutre con sus palabras; el desalmado se nutre de violencia.

3 ¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

El que cuida su boca se cuida a sí mismo; el que habla mucho tendrá problemas.

4 ¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

El perezoso desea y nada consigue, pero el que es diligente será prosperado.

5 ¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.

El hombre justo aborrece la mentira; el malvado se hace odioso y despreciable.

6 ¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

La justicia protege al de camino perfecto; la impiedad trastorna al pecador.

7 ¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

Unos pretenden ser ricos, y no tienen nada; otros simulan ser pobres, y lo tienen todo.

8 ¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.

Con sus riquezas, el hombre rescata su vida; el pobre nunca llega a oír amenazas.

9 ¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

La luz de los justos brinda alegría; la lámpara de los impíos languidece.

10 ¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

La soberbia es la madre de las contiendas, pero en los ingeniosos se halla la sabiduría.

11 ¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

Las vanas riquezas pronto se gastan; el que trabaja y las guarda las hace crecer.

12 ¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

El vivir esperando atormenta el corazón; pero es un árbol de vida el deseo que se cumple.

13 ¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

No atender una orden cuesta caro; acatarla tiene su recompensa.

14 ¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

Las enseñanzas del sabio son fuente de vida; pueden librarte de los lazos de la muerte.

15 ¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

El buen juicio genera afecto; el camino de los transgresores es inflexible.

16 ¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

El que es astuto procede con sabiduría; el que es necio deja ver su necedad.

17 ¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

El mal mensajero trae consigo desgracias; el mensajero fiel trae consigo el remedio.

18 ¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

Quien desdeña el consejo acaba pobre y avergonzado; quien acepta la corrección es objeto de honra.

19 ¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

El deseo cumplido es causa de alegría, pero los necios detestan apartarse del mal.

20 ¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

Quien se junta con sabios, sabio se vuelve; quien se junta con necios, acaba mal.

21 ¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

El mal persigue a los pecadores, pero los justos son premiados con el bien.

22 ¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Es bueno dejar herencia a los nietos; las riquezas del pecador las hereda el hombre justo.

23 ¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

En el campo de los pobres hay mucha comida, pero se pierde cuando no se imparte justicia.

24 ¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

El que retiene el castigo, aborrece a su hijo; el que lo ama, a tiempo lo corrige.

25 ¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.

El justo come hasta calmar su apetito; los impíos tienen un vientre insaciable.
