1 E l hijo sabio sigue el consejo de su padre; el burlón no hace caso de las reprensiones.

¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

2 E l hombre de bien se nutre con sus palabras; el desalmado se nutre de violencia.

¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

3 E l que cuida su boca se cuida a sí mismo; el que habla mucho tendrá problemas.

¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

4 E l perezoso desea y nada consigue, pero el que es diligente será prosperado.

¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 E l hombre justo aborrece la mentira; el malvado se hace odioso y despreciable.

¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.

6 L a justicia protege al de camino perfecto; la impiedad trastorna al pecador.

¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

7 U nos pretenden ser ricos, y no tienen nada; otros simulan ser pobres, y lo tienen todo.

¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

8 C on sus riquezas, el hombre rescata su vida; el pobre nunca llega a oír amenazas.

¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.

9 L a luz de los justos brinda alegría; la lámpara de los impíos languidece.

¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

10 L a soberbia es la madre de las contiendas, pero en los ingeniosos se halla la sabiduría.

¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 L as vanas riquezas pronto se gastan; el que trabaja y las guarda las hace crecer.

¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

12 E l vivir esperando atormenta el corazón; pero es un árbol de vida el deseo que se cumple.

¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

13 N o atender una orden cuesta caro; acatarla tiene su recompensa.

¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 L as enseñanzas del sabio son fuente de vida; pueden librarte de los lazos de la muerte.

¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 E l buen juicio genera afecto; el camino de los transgresores es inflexible.

¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 E l que es astuto procede con sabiduría; el que es necio deja ver su necedad.

¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

17 E l mal mensajero trae consigo desgracias; el mensajero fiel trae consigo el remedio.

¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

18 Q uien desdeña el consejo acaba pobre y avergonzado; quien acepta la corrección es objeto de honra.

¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

19 E l deseo cumplido es causa de alegría, pero los necios detestan apartarse del mal.

¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 Q uien se junta con sabios, sabio se vuelve; quien se junta con necios, acaba mal.

¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 E l mal persigue a los pecadores, pero los justos son premiados con el bien.

¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

22 E s bueno dejar herencia a los nietos; las riquezas del pecador las hereda el hombre justo.

¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 E n el campo de los pobres hay mucha comida, pero se pierde cuando no se imparte justicia.

¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

24 E l que retiene el castigo, aborrece a su hijo; el que lo ama, a tiempo lo corrige.

¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

25 E l justo come hasta calmar su apetito; los impíos tienen un vientre insaciable.

¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
