1 A lgunos de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a verme, y se sentaron delante de mí.

¶ Then certain of the elders of Israel came unto me and sat before me.

2 E ntonces la palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo:

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

3 « Hijo de hombre, en lo íntimo de su corazón estos hombres adoran a los ídolos. ¡En la cara se les ve el tropiezo de su maldad! ¿Y todavía he de permitir que vengan a consultarme?

Son of man, these men have caused their uncleanness to come up over their heart and have established the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

4 H abla con ellos, pero diles de mi parte que yo, el Señor su Dios, he dicho: “A los israelitas que en lo íntimo de su corazón adoren a los ídolos y lleven marcado en el rostro el tropiezo de su maldad, y vengan a consultar al profeta, yo el Señor le responderé conforme a la multitud de sus ídolos,

Therefore speak unto them and say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Every man of the house of Israel that sets up his idols in his heart and has established the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I, the LORD, will answer him that comes like this in the multitude of his idols

5 y recuperaré el corazón del pueblo de Israel, pues por causa de sus ídolos se han apartado de mí.”

that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

6 » Por lo tanto, dile de mi parte al pueblo de Israel: “Apártense de sus ídolos y vuélvanse al Señor su Dios. Vuélvanles la espalda a todas sus acciones repugnantes.”

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Repent and cause them to repent from your idols and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 P orque si algún israelita, o algún extranjero que habite en Israel, viene en busca del profeta para consultarlo y preguntarle por mí, yo mismo le responderé, si es que se ha apartado de mí, y en lo íntimo de su corazón adora a los ídolos, y lleva marcado en el rostro el tropiezo de su maldad.

For any man of the house of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel who has separated himself from walking after me and has set up his idols in his heart and has established the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet to enquire of him concerning me, I, the LORD, will answer him by myself:

8 Y o me opondré a ese hombre, y lo pondré por ejemplo y escarmiento, y lo expulsaré de mi pueblo. Así sabrán que yo soy el Señor.

and I will set my face against that man and will set him up for a sign and for sayings, and I will cut him off from among my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

9 » Y si el profeta es engañado y profetiza, será porque yo, el Señor, lo engañé. Así que descargaré mi mano sobre él, y lo expulsaré de mi pueblo Israel.

And the prophet when he is deceived and speaks a word, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from among my people Israel.

10 P ero los dos recibirán el castigo de su maldad, lo mismo el profeta que quien lo haya consultado,

And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity; the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that seeks unto him

11 p ara que el pueblo de Israel no se aparte más de mí ni se siga contaminando con todas sus rebeliones, sino que sea mi pueblo y yo sea su Dios.» Palabra de Dios el Señor. El castigo de Jerusalén es justo

that the house of Israel may no longer go astray from me, neither be polluted any longer in all their rebellions but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, said the Lord GOD.

12 L a palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo:

¶ The word of the LORD came again to me, saying:

13 « Hijo de hombre, si la tierra se obstinara en pecar contra mí, yo descargaría mi mano contra ella y le cortaría el abasto de pan para que sufriera de hambre, y acabaría con hombres y animales.

Son of man, when the land sins against me by rebelling blatantly and I stretch out my hand upon her and break the staff of the bread thereof and send famine upon her and cut off man and beast out of her

14 E n caso de que allí vivieran Noé, Daniel y Job, sólo estos tres hombres se salvarían por su justicia. Palabra de Dios el Señor.

though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of her, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, said the Lord GOD.

15 » Y si yo hiciera que los animales feroces recorrieran la tierra para asolarla, y ésta quedara tan asolada que por causa de esas fieras nadie se atreviera a pasar por ella,

If I cause an evil beast to pass through the land and destroy her so that it be desolate that there be no one to pass through because of the beast

16 y o, su Señor y Dios, les juro que, si estos tres hombres vivieran en la tierra, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían, y la tierra quedaría desolada.

though these three men were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither their sons nor their daughters; they only shall be delivered, and the land shall be destroyed.

17 » Y si yo mandara a la espada para atacar a la tierra, y le ordenara: “Espada, recorre la tierra y destruye a hombres y animales”,

Or if I bring a sword upon the land and say: Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast out of her;

18 y o, su Señor y Dios, les juro que, si estos tres hombres vivieran en ella, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían.

though these three men were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither their sons nor their daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

19 » Y si yo enviara peste sobre la tierra y descargara sobre ella mi enojo y les quitara la vida a hombres y animales,

Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my fury upon her in blood to cut off out of her man and beast

20 y o, su Señor y Dios, les digo que si Noé, Daniel y Job vivieran en ella, ni sus hijos ni sus hijas saldrían bien librados; sólo ellos se salvarían por su justicia.»

though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

21 P or lo tanto, así ha dicho Dios el Señor: «¿Y no será peor cuando yo envíe contra Jerusalén mis cuatro castigos terribles, es decir, la espada, el hambre, las fieras y la peste, para acabar con todos sus hombres y animales?

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: How much more if I send my four sore judgments against Jerusalem: the sword, the famine, the evil beast, the pestilence, to cut off out of her man and beast?

22 S in embargo, voy a dejar en ella un remanente de jóvenes y doncellas, que serán llevados a otro país. Pero ellos volverán a ustedes, y ustedes verán su conducta y sus acciones, y así se consolarán del mal que envié sobre Jerusalén y de todo lo que la hice sufrir.

Yet, behold, there shall be left a remnant in her, of whom shall be taken captive your sons and daughters; they shall be taken away: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon her.

23 C uando ustedes vean su conducta y sus acciones, reconocerán que había razón en todo lo que hice contra ella.» Palabra de Dios el Señor.

And they shall comfort you when ye see their ways and their doings and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in her, said the Lord GOD.
