1 C îţiva din bătrînii lui Israel au venit la mine şi au şezut înaintea mea.

¶ Then certain of the elders of Israel came unto me and sat before me.

2 Ş i Cuvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

3 F iul omului, oamenii aceştia îşi poartă idolii în inimă, şi îşi pironesc privirile spre ceea ce i -a făcut să cadă în nelegiuire! Să Mă las Eu să fiu întrebat de ei?

Son of man, these men have caused their uncleanness to come up over their heart and have established the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

4 D e aceea vorbeşte-le, şi spune-le:, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu:, Orice om din casa lui Israel, care îşi poartă idolii în inimă, şi care îşi pironeşte privirile spre ceeace l -a făcut să cadă în nelegiuirea lui-dacă va veni să vorbească proorocului, -Eu, Domnul, îi voi răspunde, în ciuda mulţimei idolilor lui,

Therefore speak unto them and say unto them, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Every man of the house of Israel that sets up his idols in his heart and has established the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet, I, the LORD, will answer him that comes like this in the multitude of his idols

5 c a să prind în chiar inima lor pe aceia din casa lui Israel, cari s'au depărtat de Mine din pricina tuturor idolilor.`

that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

6 D e aceea, spune casei lui Israel:, Aşa vobeşte Domnul, Dumnezeu:,Întoarceţi-vă, şi abateţi-vă de la idolii voştri, întoarceţi-vă privirile dela toate urîciunile voastre!

Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus hath the Lord GOD said: Repent and cause them to repent from your idols and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 C ăci orice om din casa lui Israel, sau din străinii cari locuiesc pentru o vreme în Israel, care s'a depărtat de Mine, care îşi poartă idolii în inima lui, şi nu-şi ia privirile dela ceea ce l -a făcut să cadă în nelegiuirea lui, -dacă va veni să vorbească unui prooroc, ca să Mă întrebe prin el, -Eu, Domnul, prin Mine însumi îi voi răspunde.

For any man of the house of Israel or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel who has separated himself from walking after me and has set up his idols in his heart and has established the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face and comes to the prophet to enquire of him concerning me, I, the LORD, will answer him by myself:

8 Î mi voi întorce Faţa împotriva omului acestuia, îl voi face un semn şi de pomină, şi -l îl voi nimici cu desăvîrşire din mijlocul poporului Meu. Şi veţi şti că Eu sînt Domnul!

and I will set my face against that man and will set him up for a sign and for sayings, and I will cut him off from among my people; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

9 D acă proorocul se va lăsa amăgit să rostească un cuvînt, Eu, Domnul, am amăgit pe proorocul acela; Îmi voi întinde mîna împotriva lui, şi -l voi nimici din mijlocul poporului Meu Israel.

And the prophet when he is deceived and speaks a word, I the LORD have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him and will destroy him from among my people Israel.

10 Î şi vor purta astfel păcatul lor, şi pedeapsa proorocului va fi la fel cu pedeapsa celuice întreabă,

And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity; the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that seeks unto him

11 c a să nu se mai rătăcească dela Mine casa lui Israel, şi să nu se mai spurce cu toate fărădelegile ei. Atunci vor fi poporul Meu, şi Eu voi fi Dumnezeul lor, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu!`` -

that the house of Israel may no longer go astray from me, neither be polluted any longer in all their rebellions but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, said the Lord GOD.

12 C uvîntul Domnului mi -a vorbit astfel:

¶ The word of the LORD came again to me, saying:

13 F iul omului, cînd va păcătui o ţară împotriva Mea, dedîndu-se la fărădelege, şi Îmi voi întinde mîna împotriva ei, -dacă îi voi sfărîma toiagul pînii, dacă îi voi trimete foametea, dacă îi voi nimici cu desăvîrşire oamenii şi vitele,

Son of man, when the land sins against me by rebelling blatantly and I stretch out my hand upon her and break the staff of the bread thereof and send famine upon her and cut off man and beast out of her

14 c hiar de ar fi în mijlocul ei aceşti trei oameni: Noe, Daniel şi Iov, ei nu şi-ar mîntui decît sufletul lor prin neprihănirea lor, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu.``

though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of her, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, said the Lord GOD.

15 D acă aş lăsa ca ţara să fie cutreierată de fiare sălbatice, cari ar lăsa -o fără popor, dacă ar ajunge un pustiu pe unde n'ar mai putea trece nimeni, din pricina acestor fiare,

If I cause an evil beast to pass through the land and destroy her so that it be desolate that there be no one to pass through because of the beast

16 ş i ar fi în mijlocul ei aceşti trei oameni, pe viaţa Mea, zice Domnul, Dumnezeu, că n'ar scăpa nici fii, nici fiice, ci numai ei ar scăpa, şi ţara ar ajunge un pustiu.

though these three men were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither their sons nor their daughters; they only shall be delivered, and the land shall be destroyed.

17 S au dacă aş aduce sabie împotriva ţării acesteia, dacă aş zice să treacă sabia prin ţară, dacă i-aş nimici cu desăvîrşire oamenii şi vitele,

Or if I bring a sword upon the land and say: Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast out of her;

18 ş i ar fi în mijlocul ei aceşti trei oameni, pe viaţa Mea, -zice Domnul Dumnezeu, -că n'ar mai scăpa nici fii nici fiice, ci numai ei singuri ar scăpa.

though these three men were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither their sons nor their daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

19 S au dacă aş trimete ciuma în ţara aceasta, dacă Mi-aş vărsa urgia împotriva ei prin molimă, ca să -i nimicesc cu desăvîrşire oamenii şi vitele,

Or if I send a pestilence into that land and pour out my fury upon her in blood to cut off out of her man and beast

20 ş i ar fi în mijlocul ei Noe, Daniel şi Iov, pe viaţa Mea-zice Domnul, Dumnezeu-că n'ar scăpa nici fii nici fiice, ci numai ei şi-ar mîntui sufletul prin neprihănirea lor.``

though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in the midst of her, as I live, said the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

21 T otuş, aşa vorbeşte Domnul Dumnezeu:,, Măcar că trimet împotriva Ierusalimului cele patru pedepse grozave ale mele: sabia, foametea, fiarele sălbatice şi ciuma, ca să nimicesc cu desăvîrşire din el oamenii şi vitele,

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: How much more if I send my four sore judgments against Jerusalem: the sword, the famine, the evil beast, the pestilence, to cut off out of her man and beast?

22 t ot va fi o rămăşiţă care ca scăpa, care va ieşi din el, şi anume: fii şi fiice. Iată, aceştia vor veni la voi, le veţi vedea purtarea şi faptele, şi vă veţi mîngîia de nenorocirea pe care o aduc asupra Ierusalimului, de tot ce aduc asupra lui.

Yet, behold, there shall be left a remnant in her, of whom shall be taken captive your sons and daughters; they shall be taken away: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon her.

23 E i vă vor mîngîia, cînd le veţi vedea purtarea şi faptele, şi veţi cunoaşte că nu fără temei fac Eu tot ce fac împotriva Ieruslimului, zice Domnul, Dumnzeu.``

And they shall comfort you when ye see their ways and their doings and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in her, said the Lord GOD.
