1 F emeia înţeleaptă îşi zideşte casa, iar femeia nebună o dărîmă cu înseşi mînile ei. -

¶ Every wise woman builds her house, but the foolish plucks it down with her hands.

2 C ine umblă cu neprihănire, se teme de Domnul, dar cine apucă pe căi strîmbe, Îl nesocoteşte. -

¶ He that walks in his uprightness fears the LORD, but he that is perverse in his ways despises him.

3 Î n gura nebunului este o nuia pentru mîndria lui, dar pe înţelepţi îi păzesc buzele lor. -

¶ In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride, but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 U nde nu sînt boi, ieslea rămîne goală, dar puterea boilor aduce belşug de roduri. -

¶ Without oxen, the storehouse is clean, but by the strength of the ox there is abundance of bread.

5 U n martor credincios nu minte, dar un martor mincinos spune minciuni.

¶ The true witness will not lie, but the false witness will utter lies.

6 B atjocoritorul caută înţelepciunea şi n'o găseşte, dar pentru omul priceput ştiinţa este lucru uşor. -

¶ The scorner sought wisdom and found it not, but wisdom comes easy unto him that understands.

7 D epărtează-te de nebun, căci nu pe buzele lui vei găsi ştiinţa. -

¶ Go from the presence of the foolish man when thou dost not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.

8 Î nţelepciunea omului chibzuit îl face să vadă pe ce cale să meargă, dar nebunia celor nesocotiţi îi înşală pe ei înşişi. -

¶ The wisdom of the sane is to understand his way, but the folly of fools is deceit.

9 C ei nesocotiţi glumesc cu păcatul, dar între cei fără prihană este bunăvoinţă. -

¶ Fools speak sin unto themselves, but among the righteous there is love.

10 I nima îşi cunoaşte necazurile, şi nici un străin nu se poate amesteca în bucuria ei. -

¶ The heart knows the bitterness of his soul, and a stranger shall not intermeddle with his joy.

11 C asa celor răi va fi nimicită, dar cortul celor fără prihană va înflori. -

¶ The house of the wicked shall be made desolate, but the tent of the upright shall flourish.

12 M ulte căi pot părea bune omului, dar la urmă se văd că duc la moarte. -

¶ There is a way which seems right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 D e multe ori chiar în mijlocul rîsului inima poate fi mîhnită, şi bucuria poate sfîrşi prin necaz. -

¶ Even in laughter, the scorner has pain in his heart, and the end of that mirth is heaviness.

14 C el cu inima rătăcită se satură de căile lui, şi omul de bine se satură şi el de ce este în el. -

¶ The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways, and the good man shall be separated from him.

15 O mul lesne crezător crede orice vorbă, dar omul chibzuit ia seama bine cum merge. -

¶ The simple believes every word, but the prudent man understands his steps.

16 Î nţeleptul se teme şi se abate dela rău, dar nesocotitul este îngîmfat şi fără frică. -

¶ The wise man fears and departs from evil, but the fool rages and is confident.

17 C ine este iute la mînie face prostii, şi omul plin de răutate se face urît. -

¶ He that is soon angry shall deal foolishly, and the man of wicked devices shall be hated.

18 C ei proşti au parte de nebunie, dar oamenii chibzuiţi sînt încununaţi cu ştiinţă. -

¶ The simple shall inherit folly, but the prudent shall be crowned with wisdom.

19 C ei răi se pleacă înaintea celor buni, şi cei nelegiuiţi înaintea porţilor celui neprihănit. -

¶ Those who are evil shall bow before those who are good, and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.

20 S ăracul este urît chiar şi de prietenul său, dar bogatul are foarte mulţi prieteni. -

¶ The poor is hated even of his own neighbour, but many are those who love the rich.

21 C ine dispreţuieşte pe aproapele său face un păcat, dar ferice de cine are milă de cei nenorociţi. -

¶ The sinner despises his neighbour, but he that has mercy on the poor is blessed.

22 Î n adevăr ceice gîndesc răul se rătăcesc. dar ceice gîndesc binele lucrează cu bunătate şi credincioşie.

¶ Do they not err that meditate upon evil? but those that meditate upon good shall attain mercy and truth.

23 O riunde se munceşte este şi cîştig, dar oriunde numai se vorbeşte, este lipsă. -

¶ In all labour there is fruit, but to talk and not do, brings poverty.

24 B ogăţia este o cunună pentru cei înţelepţi, dar cei nesocotiţi n'au altceva decît nebunie. -

¶ The crown of the wise is their wisdom, but that which distinguishes fools is their folly.

25 M artorul care spune adevărul scapă suflete, dar cel înşelător spune minciuni. -

¶ The true witness delivers souls, but the deceitful one speaks lies.

26 C ine se teme de Domnul are un sprijin tare în El, şi copiii lui au un loc de adăpost la El. -

¶ In the fear of the LORD is strong confidence, and there his sons shall have hope.

27 F rica de Domnul este un izvor de viaţă, ea ne fereşte de cursele morţii. -

The fear of the LORD is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

28 M ulţimea poporului este slava împăratului, lipsa poporului este pieirea voivodului. -

¶ In the multitude of the people is the king’s glory, but in the failure of the people is the weakness of the prince.

29 C ine este încet la mînie are multă pricepere, dar cine se aprinde iute, face multe prostii. -

¶ He that is slow to wrath is of great intelligence, but he that is short of spirit exalts folly.

30 O inimă liniştită este viaţa trupului, dar prizma este putrezirea oaselor. -

¶ A sound heart is life to the flesh, but envy is rottenness of the bones.

31 C ine asupreşte pe sărac, batjocoreşte pe Ziditorul său, dar cine are milă de cel lipsit, cinsteşte pe Ziditorul său. -

¶ He that oppresses the poor reproaches his Maker, but he that has mercy on the poor, honours him.

32 C el rău este doborît de răutatea lui, dar cel neprihănit chiar şi la moarte trage nădejde. -

¶ For his wickedness shall the wicked be cast out, but the righteous in his death has hope.

33 Î nţelepciunea se odihneşte într'o inimă pricepută, dar în mijlocul celor nesocotiţi ea se dă de gol. -

¶ Wisdom shall rest in the heart of him that is sane and is made known in the midst of the fools.

34 N eprihănirea înalţă pe un popor, dar păcatul este ruşinea popoarelor. -

¶ Righteousness exalts a people, but sin is a reproach to the nations.

35 U n împărat are plăcere de un slujitor chibzuit, dar pe cel de ocară, îl atinge mînia lui.

¶ The king’s favour is toward the wise slave, but his wrath is against him that causes shame.
