1 V ai! în ce întunecime a aruncat Domnul, în mînia Lui, pe fiica Sionului. A asvîrlit din cer pe pămînt podoaba lui Israel, şi nu Şi -a mai adus aminte de scaunul picioarelor Lui, în ziua mîniei Lui!

8 Ş i -a pus de gînd Domnul să dărîme zidurile fiicei Sionului; a întins sfoara de măsurat, şi nu Şi -a tras mîna pînă nu le -a nimicit. A cufundat în jale întăritura şi zidurile, cari nu mai sînt, toate, decît nişte dărîmături triste.

13 C u ce să te îmbărbătez şi cu ce să te asemăn, fiica Ierusalimului? Cu cine să te pun alături, şi cu ce să te mîngîi, fecioară, fiica Sionului? Căci rana ta este mare ca marea: cine va putea să te vindece?

Mem What witness shall I take to thee? Or unto whom shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? Unto whom shall I compare thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Zion? for thy breach is as great as the sea: who shall heal thee?

14 P roorocii tăi ţi-au proorocit vedenii deşarte şi amăgitoare, nu ţi-au dat pe faţă nelegiuirea, ca să abată astfel robia dela tine, ci ţi-au făcut proorocii mincinoase şi înşelătoare.

Nun Thy prophets have preached vanity and foolishness unto thee; and they have not uncovered thine iniquity to turn away thy captivity but have preached unto thee vain prophecies and digressions.

15 T oţi trecătorii bat din palme asupra ta, şuieră şi dau din cap împotriva fiicei Ierusalimului, şi zic:,, Aceasta este cetatea despre care se zicea că este cea mai frumoasă, şi bucuria întregului pămînt?``

16 T oţi vrăjmaşii tăi deschid gura împotriva ta, fluieră, scrîşnesc din dinţi, şi zic:,, Am înghiţit -o!``,, Da, aceasta este ziua pe care o aşteptam, am ajuns -o şi o vedem!``

17 D omnul a înfăptuit ce hotărîse, a împlinit cuvîntul pe care -l sorocise de multă vreme, a nimicit fără milă; a făcut din tine bucuria vrăjmaşului, a înălţat tăria asupritorilor tăi!

Ain The LORD has done that which he had determined; he has fulfilled his word that he had commanded from the time of old; he has destroyed and has not forgiven; and he has caused thine enemy to rejoice over thee; he has raised up the horn of thine adversaries.

18 I nima lor strigă către Domnul... Zid al fiicei Sionului, varsă zi şi noapte şiroaie de lacrămi! Nu-ţi da niciun răgaz, şi ochiul tău să n'aibă odihnă!

Tsade Their heart cried unto the Lord, O wall of the daughter of Zion; let tears run down like a river day and night; give thyself no rest; let not the apple of thine eye cease.

19 S coală-te şi gemi noaptea cînd încep străjile! Varsă-ţi inima ca nişte apă, înaintea Domnului! Ridică-ţi mîinile spre El pentru viaţa copiilor tăi, cari mor de foame la toate colţurile uliţelor!

Koph Arise, cry out in the night; in the beginning of the watches; pour out thine heart like water before the face of the Lord; lift up thy hands toward him for the life of thy young children that faint for hunger in the top of every street.

20 U ită-Te, Doamne, şi priveşte: cui i-ai făcut Tu aşa? Să mănînce femeile rodul pîntecelui lor, pruncii desmierdaţi de mînile lor? Să fie măcelăriţi preoţii şi proorocii în Locaşul cel sfînt al Domnului?

Resh Look, O LORD, and consider unto whom thou hast shaken thus. Shall the women eat their fruit, the little ones that they are bringing up? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord?

21 C opiii şi bătrînii stau culcaţi pe pămînt în uliţe; fecioarele şi tinerii mei au căzut ucişi de sabie; i-ai ucis, în ziua mîniei Tale, şi i-ai jungheat fără milă.

Schin The young and the old lay on the ground in the streets; my virgins and my young men fell by the sword; thou hast slain them in the day of thine anger; thou hast killed and hast not forgiven.

22 A i chemat groaza din toate părţile peste mine, ca la o zi de sărbătoare. În ziua mîniei Domnului, n'a scăpat unul şi n'a rămas cu viaţă. Pe cei îngrijiţi şi crescuţi de mine, mi i -a nimicit vrăjmaşul!``

Tau Thou hast called as to a day of solemnity my terrors from everywhere, so that in the day of the LORD’s anger no one escaped nor remained: those that I have swaddled and brought up my enemy has consumed.
