1 C înd Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te va aduce în ţara în care vei intra şi o vei lua în stăpînire, şi va izgoni dinaintea ta multe neamuri: pe Hetiţi, pe Ghirgasiţi, pe Amoriţi, pe Cananiţi, pe Fereziţi, pe Heviţi şi pe Iebusiţi, şapte neamuri mai mari la număr şi mai puternice decît tine;

¶ When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land into which thou must enter to inherit it and has cast out many Gentiles before thee, the Hittite and the Girgashite and the Amorite and the Canaanite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

2 c înd Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi le va da în mîni, şi le vei bate, să le nimiceşti cu desăvîrşire, să nu închei legămînt cu ele, şi să n'ai milă de ele.

and when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee, thou shalt smite them and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them nor show mercy unto them.

3 S ă nu te încuscreşti cu popoarele acestea, să nu măriţi pe fetele tale după fiii lor, şi să nu iei pe fetele lor de neveste pentru fiii tăi;

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

4 c ăci ar abate dela Mine pe fiii tăi, şi ar sluji astfel altor dumnezei; Domnul S'ar aprinde de mînie împotriva voastră şi te-ar nimici îndată.

For they will turn away thy son from following me that they may serve other gods; and the anger of the LORD will be kindled upon you and destroy thee suddenly.

5 D impotrivă, iată cum să vă purtaţi cu ele: să le surpaţi altarele, să le sfărîmaţi stîlpii idoleşti, să le tăiaţi pomii închinaţi dumnezeilor lor şi să ardeţi în foc chipurile lor cioplite.

But thus shall ye deal with them: ye shall destroy their altars and break down their images and cut down their groves and burn their graven images in the fire.

6 C ăci tu eşti un popor sfînt pentru Domnul, Dumnezeul tău; Domnul Dumnezeul tău te -a ales, ca să fii un popor al Lui dintre toate popoarele de pe faţa pămîntului.

For thou art a holy people unto the LORD thy God; the LORD thy God has chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, different from all the peoples that are upon the face of the earth.

7 N u doar pentrucă întreceţi la număr pe toate celelalte popoare S'a alipit Domnul de voi şi v'a ales, căci voi sînteţi cel mai mic dintre toate popoarele.

Not because ye were more than the other peoples has the LORD desired you and chosen you; for ye were the fewest of all the peoples;

8 C i, pentru că Domnul vă iubeşte, pentru că a vrut să ţină jurămîntul pe care l -a făcut părinţilor voştri, pentru aceea v'a scos Domnul cu mîna Lui puternică, şi v'a izbăvit din casa robiei, din mîna Lui Faraon, împăratul Egiptului.

but because the LORD loved you and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, has the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand and ransomed you out of the house of slavery from the hand of Pharaoh, king of Egypt.

9 S ă ştii dar că Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, este singurul Dumnezeu. El este un Dumnezeu credincios şi Îşi ţine legămîntul şi îndurarea pînă la al miilea neam de oameni faţă de cei ce -L iubesc şi păzesc poruncile Lui.

Know, therefore, that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps covenant and mercy with those that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations

10 D ar răsplăteşte îndată pe cei ce -L urăsc, şi -i perde; nu dă nici o păsuire celui ce -L urăşte, ci -i răsplăteşte îndată.

and repays him that hates him to his face, to destroy him; he will not be slack to him that hates him; he will repay him to his face.

11 D e aceea păzeşte poruncile, legile şi rînduielile pe cari ţi le dau azi, şi împlineşte-le.

Keep, therefore, the commandments and statutes and rights, which I command thee this day, to do them.

12 D acă veţi asculta aceste porunci, dacă le veţi păzi şi împlini, Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, va ţinea faţă de tine legămîntul şi îndurarea cu care S'a jurat părinţilor tăi.

¶ And it shall come to pass, for having heard these rights and for having kept them by doing them that the LORD thy God shall keep the covenant with thee and the mercy which he swore unto thy fathers;

13 E l te va iubi, te va binecuvînta şi te va înmulţi; va binecuvînta rodul trupului tău şi rodul pămîntului tău, grîul tău, mustul şi untdelemnul tău, rodul cirezilor tale de vite şi rodul turmelor tale de oi, în ţara pe care a jurat părinţilor tăi că ţi -o va da.

and he will love thee and bless thee and multiply thee; he will also bless the fruit of thy womb and the fruit of thy land, thy grain and thy wine and thine oil, the increase of thy cows and the flocks of thy sheep, in the land which he swore unto thy fathers to give thee.

14 V ei fi binecuvîntat mai mult decît toate popoarele; şi la tine nu va fi nici bărbat, nici femeie stearpă, nici vită stearpă în turmele tale.

Thou shalt be blessed above all peoples; there shall not be male or female barren among you or among your beasts.

15 D omnul va depărta de tine orice boală; nu-ţi va trimete niciuna din acele molime rele din Egipt pe cari le cunoşti, ci va lovi cu ele pe toţi ceice te urăsc.

And the LORD will take away from thee all sickness and will put none of the evil diseases of Egypt, which thou knowest, upon thee, but will lay them upon all those that hate thee.

16 S ă nimiceşti toate popoarele pe cari ţi le va da în mînă Domnul, Dumnezeul tău; să n'arunci nici o privire de milă spre ele, şi să nu slujeşti dumnezeilor lor, căci aceasta va fi o cursă pentru tine.

And thou shalt consume all the peoples which the LORD thy God shall deliver thee; thine eye shall have no pity upon them; neither shalt thou serve their gods; for that will be a snare unto thee.

17 P oate că vei zice în inima ta:,, Neamurile acestea sînt mai mari la număr decît mine; cum voi putea să le izgonesc?``

When thou shalt say in thy heart, These Gentiles are more than I; how can I dispossess them?

18 S ă nu te temi de ele. Adu-ţi aminte ce a făcut Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, lui Faraon şi întregului Egipt;

Do not be afraid of them; remember well what the LORD thy God did with Pharaoh and with all Egypt;

19 a du-ţi aminte de marile încercări pe cari ţi le-au văzut ochii, de minunile şi semnele, de mîna tare şi de braţul întins, cu cari te -a scos Domnul, Dumnezeul tău. Aşa va face Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, tuturor popoarelor de cari te temi.

of the great trials which thine eyes saw and the signs and the wonders and the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which the LORD thy God brought thee out; so shall the LORD thy God do unto all the peoples of whose presence thou art afraid.

20 D omnul, Dumnezeul tău, va trimete chiar şi vespii bondăreşti împotriva lor pînă la deplina nimicire a celor ce vor scăpa şi se vor ascunde de tine.

Moreover the LORD thy God will send the hornet among them until those that are left and hide themselves from thee are destroyed.

21 S ă nu te înspăimînţi de ei; căci Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, este în mijlocul tău, Dumnezeul cel mare şi înfricoşat.

Thou shalt not faint before them; for the LORD thy God is among you, a great and terrible God.

22 Ş i Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, va izgoni încetul cu încetul aceste neamuri dinaintea ta: nu le vei putea nimici îndată, ca să nu se înmulţească fiarele cîmpului împotriva ta.

And the LORD thy God will put out those Gentiles before thee little by little; thou may not consume them at once lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

23 D ar Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, le va da în mîna ta; şi le va pune cu totul pe fugă, pînă vor fi nimicite.

But the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee and shall destroy them with a mighty destruction until they are destroyed.

24 P e împăraţii lor îi va da în mînile tale, şi le vei şterge numele de subt ceruri; niciunul din aceste popoare nu va putea să stea împotriva ta, pînă le vei nimici.

And he shall deliver their kings into thy hand, and thou shalt destroy their name from under heaven; no one shall be able to stand before thee until thou hast destroyed them.

25 C hipurile cioplite ale dumnezeilor lor să le ardeţi în foc. Să nu pofteşti şi să nu iei pentru tine argintul şi aurul de pe ele, ca nu cumva aceste lucruri să ajungă pentru tine o cursă; căci ele sînt o urîciune înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeului tău.

The graven images of their gods ye shall burn in the fire; thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them nor take it unto thee lest thou be snared therein; for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God.

26 S ă nu aduci nici un lucru urîcios în casa ta, ca să nu fii nimicit cu desăvîrşire, tu şi lucrul acela; să-ţi fie groază de el, să-ţi fie scîrbă de el, căci este un lucru blestemat.

Neither shalt thou bring an abomination into thine house lest thou become an anathema like it, but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is anathema.
