1 S oacră-sa Naomi i -a zis:,, Fiica mea, aş vrea să-ţi dau un loc de odihnă, ca să fii fericită.

¶ Then Naomi, her mother-in-law, said unto her, My daughter, shall I not seek rest for thee that it may be well with thee?

2 Ş i acum Boaz, cu ale cărui slujnice ai fost, nu este el rudă cu noi? Iată, el are să vînture la noapte orzurile în arie.

And now is not Boaz of our kindred with whose maidens thou wast? Behold, he winnows barley tonight in the threshing floor.

3 S pală-te şi unge-te, apoi îmbracă-te cu hainele tale, şi pogoară-te la arie. Să nu te faci cunoscută lui, pînă va isprăvi de mîncat şi de băut.

Therefore, thou shalt wash thyself and anoint thyself and put thy raiment upon thee and go down to the threshingfloor, but do not make thyself known unto the man until he shall have finished eating and drinking.

4 Ş i cînd se va duce să se culce, înseamnă-ţi locul unde se culcă. Apoi du-te, descopere -i picioarele, şi culcă-te. Şi el însuş îţi va spune ce să faci.``

And it shall be when he lies down that thou shalt perceive the place where he shall lie, and thou shalt go in and uncover his feet and lie down there, and he will tell thee what thou shalt do.

5 E a i -a răspuns:,, Voi face tot ce ai spus.``

And she said unto her, All that thou dost command me I will do.

6 R ut s'a pogorît la arie, şi a făcut tot ce poruncise soacră-sa.

¶ And she went down to the threshing floor and did according to all that her mother-in-law had commanded her.

7 B oaz a mîncat şi a băut, şi inima -i era veselă. S'a dus şi s'a culcat la marginea unui stog. Rut a venit atunci încet de tot, i -a descoperit picioarele, şi s'a culcat.

And when Boaz had eaten and drunk and his heart was merry, he went to lie down at the end of the heap, and she came softly and uncovered his feet and lay down.

8 L a miezul nopţii, omul s'a speriat; s'a plecat, şi iată că o femeie era culcată la picioarele lui.

And it came to pass at midnight that the man was startled and took hold, and, behold, a woman lay at his feet.

9 E l a zis:,, Cine eşti tu?`` Ea răspuns:,, Eu sînt Rut, slujnica ta; întinde-ţi poala hainei peste slujnica ta, căci ai drept de răscumpărare.``

Then he said, Who art thou? And she answered, I am Ruth, thy handmaid; spread therefore the edge of thy mantle over thy handmaid; for thou art a redeemer.

10 Ş i el a zis:,, Fii binecuvîntată de Domnul, fiică! Această faptă de pe urmă mărturiseşte şi mai mult pentru tine decît cea dintîi, că n'ai umblat după tineri, săraci sau bogaţi.

And he said, Blessed be thou of the LORD, my daughter, for thou hast shown more mercy in the end than at the first, not going after the young men, whether poor or rich.

11 A cum, fiică, nu te teme, îţi voi face tot ce vei zice, căci toată cetatea ştie că eşti o femeie cinstită.

And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do unto thee all that thou hast said, for all the city of my people know that thou art a valiant woman.

12 E ste adevărat că am drept de răscumpărare, dar este o altă rudă mai aproape decît mine.

And now it is true that I am thy redeemer; however, there is another redeemer nearer than I (in kinship).

13 R ămîi în noaptea aceasta aici. Şi mîne, dacă vrea să te răscumpere, bine, să te răscumpere; dar dacă nu -i place să te răscumpere, te voi răscumpăra eu, viu este Domnul! Culcă-te aici pînă dimineaţă.``

Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning that if he will redeem thee, well, let him redeem thee, but if he does not wish to redeem, then I will redeem thee, as the LORD lives; lie down until the morning.

14 E a a rămas culcată la picioarele lui pînă dimineaţă, şi s'a sculat mai înainte de a se putea cunoaşte unul pe altul. Boaz a zis:,, Să nu ştie nimeni că a intrat o femeie în arie!``

¶ And she lay at his feet until the morning, and she rose up before one could know another. And he said, Let it not be known that the woman has come to the threshing floor.

15 Ş i a adăugat:,, Adu mantaua de pe tine, şi ţine -o.`` Ea a ţinut -o, şi el a măsurat şase măsuri de orz, şi le -a pus pe ea. Apoi a intrat în cetate.

Also he said, Bring the veil that thou hast upon thee and hold it. And when she held it, he measured six measures of barley and laid it on her, and she went into the city.

16 R ut s'a întors la soacră-sa, şi Naomi, a zis:,, Tu eşti, fiica mea?`` Rut i -a istorisit tot ce -i făcuse omul acela.

And when she came to her mother-in-law, she said, What now, my daughter? And she told her all that had happened to her with the man.

17 E a a zis:,, Mi -a dat aceste şase măsuri de orz, zicînd:, Să nu te întorci cu mînile goale la soacră-ta.``

And she said, He gave me these six measures of barley, saying, Do not go empty unto thy mother-in-law.

18 Ş i Naomi a zis:,, Fii liniştită, fiica mea, pînă vei şti cum se va isprăvi lucrul acesta, căci omul acesta nu va avea odihnă pînă nu va sfîrşi lucrul chiar astăzi.``

Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou shall know how the matter will fall, for that man will not rest until he has concluded the thing today.
