1 F iii lui Ruben şi fiii lui Gad aveau o mare mulţime de vite, şi au văzut că ţara lui Iaezer şi ţara Galaadului erau un loc bun pentru vite.

¶ Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock, and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, it seemed unto them that the place was a place for livestock.

2 A tunci fiii lui Gad, şi fiii lui Ruben au venit la Moise, la preotul Eleazar şi la mai marii adunării, şi le-au zis:

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke unto Moses and to Eleazar, the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

3 A tarot, Dibon, Iaezer, Nimra, Hesbon, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo şi Beon,

Ataroth and Dibon and Jazer and Nimrah and Heshbon and Elealeh and Shebam and Nebo and Beon,

4 ţ ara aceasta pe care a lovit -o Domnul înaintea adunării lui Israel, este un loc bun pentru vite, şi robii tăi au vite.``

the country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and thy slaves have livestock.

5 A poi au adăugat:,, Dacă am căpătat trecere înaintea ta, să se dea ţara aceasta în stăpînirea robilor tăi, şi să nu ne treci peste Iordan.``

Therefore, they said, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy slaves for a possession and do not make us pass the Jordan.

6 M oise a răspuns fiilor lui Gad şi fiilor lui Ruben:,, Fraţii voştri să meargă oare la război, şi voi să rămîneţi aici?

And Moses said unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

7 P entru ce voiţi să muiaţi inima copiilor lui Israel şi să -i faceţi să nu treacă în ţara pe care le -o dă Domnul?

Why do ye discourage the heart of the sons of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?

8 A şa au făcut şi părinţii voştri cînd i-am trimes din Cades-Barnea să iscodească ţara.

Thus did your fathers when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

9 S 'au suit pînă la valea Eşcol, şi, după ce au iscodit ţara, au muiat inima copiilor lui Israel, şi i-au făcut să nu intre în ţara pe care le -o dădea Domnul.

For when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

10 Ş i Domnul S'a aprins de mînie în ziua aceea, şi a jurat zicînd:

And the LORD’s anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying,

11 O amenii aceştia cari s'au suit din Egipt, de la vîrsta de douăzeci de ani în sus, nu vor vedea ţara pe care am jurat că o voi da lui Avraam, lui Isaac şi lui Iacov, căci n'au urmat în totul calea Mea,

Surely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

12 a fară de Caleb, fiul lui Iefune, Chenizitul, şi Iosua, fiul lui Nun, cari au urmat în totul calea Domnului.

except Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua, the son of Nun, for they were perfect in following the LORD.

13 D omnul S'a aprins de mînie împotriva lui Israel, şi i -a făcut să rătăcească în pustie timp de patruzeci de ani, pînă la stingerea întregului leat de oameni care făcuseră rău înaintea Domnului.

And the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed.

14 Ş i iată că voi luaţi locul părinţilor voştri, ca nişte odrasle de oameni păcătoşi, ca să faceţi pe Domnul să Se aprindă şi mai tare de mînie împotriva lui Israel.

And, behold, ye are risen up in the place of your fathers, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

15 C ăci, dacă vă întoarceţi de la El, El va lăsa mai departe pe Israel să rătăcească în pustie, şi veţi aduce perderea poporului acestuia întreg.``

For if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave you in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

16 E i s'au apropiat de Moise, şi au zis:,, Vom face aici ocoale pentru vitele noastre şi cetăţi pentru pruncii noştri:

¶ Then they came near unto him and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones,

17 a poi ne vom înarma în grabă şi vom merge înaintea copiiilor lui Israel, pînă îi vom duce în locul care le este rînduit; şi pruncii noştri vor locui în aceste cetăţi întărite, din pricina locuitorilor ţării acesteia.

but we ourselves will go arm ourselves and go with diligence before the sons of Israel until we have brought them unto their place, and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

18 N u ne vom întoarce în casele noastre mai înainte ca fiecare din copiii lui Israel să fi pus stăpînire pe moştenirea lui,

We will not return unto our houses until the sons of Israel have inherited each man his inheritance.

19 ş i nu vom stăpîni nimic cu ei dincolo de Iordan, nici mai departe, pentrucă noi ne vom avea moştenirea noastră dincoace de Iordan, la răsărit.``

For we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan or forward because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of Jordan eastward.

20 M oise le -a zis:,, Dacă faceţi aşa, dacă vă înarmaţi ca să luptaţi înaintea Domnului,

Then Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will prepare yourselves to go before the LORD to the war

21 d acă toţi aceia dintre voi cari se vor înarma trec Iordanul înaintea Domnului, pînă ce va izgoni pe vrăjmaşii Lui dinaintea Lui,

and will all pass the Jordan armed before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him

22 ş i dacă vă veţi întoarce înapoi numai după ce ţara va fi supusă înaintea Domnului, -atunci veţi fi fără vină înaintea Domnului şi înaintea lui Israel, şi ţinutul acesta va fi moşia voastră înaintea Domnului.

and the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the LORD and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

23 D ar dacă nu faceţi aşa, păcătuiţi împotriva Domnului, şi să ştiţi că păcatul vostru vă va ajunge.

But if ye will not do so, behold, ye shall have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will catch up with you.

24 Z idiţi cetăţi pentru pruncii voştri şi ocoale pentru vitele voastre, şi faceţi ce aţi spus cu gura voastră.``

Build cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.

25 F iii lui Gad şi fiii lui Ruben au zis lui Moise:,, Robii tăi vor face tot ce porunceşte domnul nostru.

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke unto Moses, saying, Thy slaves will do as my lord commands.

26 P runcii noştri, nevestele, turmele noastre şi toate vitele noastre, vor rămînea în cetăţile Galaadului;

Our little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our beasts, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;

27 i ar robii tăi, toţi înarmaţi pentru război, vor merge să se lupte înaintea Domnului, cum zice domnul nostru.``

but thy slaves, each one armed for war, will pass before the LORD to battle, as our lord saith.

28 M oise a dat porunci cu privire la ei preotului Eleazar, lui Iosua, fiul lui Nun, şi capilor de familie din seminţiile copiilor lui Israel.

¶ So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the princes of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

29 E l le -a zis:,, Dacă fiii lui Gad şi fiii lui Ruben trec cu voi Iordanul, înarmaţi cu toţii ca să lupte înaintea Domnului, după ce ţara va fi supusă înaintea voastră, să le daţi în stăpînire ţinutul Galaadului.

And Moses said unto them, If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will pass the Jordan with you, each one armed to battle, before the LORD, after the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession.

30 D ar dacă nu vor merge înarmaţi împreună cu voi, să se aşeze în mijlocul vostru în ţara Canaanului.``

But if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

31 F iii lui Gad şi fiii lui Ruben au răspuns:,, Vom face tot ce a spus robilor tăi Domnul.

And the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD has said unto thy slaves, so will we do.

32 V om trece înarmaţi înaintea Domnului în ţara Canaanului; dar noi să ne avem moştenirea noastră dincoace de Iordan.``

We will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance on this side of the Jordan shall be ours.

33 M oise a dat fiilor lui Gad şi fiilor lui Ruben, şi la jumătate din seminţia lui Manase, fiul lui Iosif, împărăţia lui Sihon, împăratul Amoriţilor, şi împărăţia lui Og, împăratul Basanului, ţara cu cetăţile ei, cu ţinuturile cetăţilor ţării de jur împrejur.

Thus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about.

34 F iii lui Gad au zidit Dibonul, Atarotul, Aroerul,

And the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer

35 A trot-Şofan, Iaezer, Iogbeha,

and Atroth-shophan and Jaazer and Jogbehah

36 B et-Nimra şi Bet-Haran, cetăţi întărite, şi au făcut staule pentru turme.

and Bethnimrah and Bethharan, fenced cities, and also folds for sheep.

37 F iii lui Ruben au zidit Hesbonul, Eleale, Chiriataim,

And the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim

38 N ebo şi Baal-Meon, ale căror nume au fost schimbate, şi Sibma, şi au pus alte nume cetăţilor pe cari le-au zidit.

and Nebo and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Shibmah and gave other names unto the cities which they built.

39 F iii lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, au mers împotriva Galaadului, şi au pus mîna pe el; au izgonit pe Amoriţii cari erau acolo.

And the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it.

40 M oise a dat Galaadului lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, care s'a aşezat acolo.

And Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

41 I air, fiul lui Manase, a pornit şi el, şi a luat tîrgurile, şi le -a numit tîrgurile lui Iair.

Jair, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair.

42 N obah a pornit şi el şi a luat Chenatul împreună cu cetăţile cari ţineau de el, şi l -a numit Nobah, după numele lui.

Likewise Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.
