1 Î n aceeaşi zi, împăratul Ahaşveroş a dat împărătesei Estera casa lui Haman, vrăjmaşul Iudeilor. Şi Mardoheu a venit înaintea împăratului, căci Estera arătase legătura ei de rudenie cu el.

¶ On that same day King Ahasuerus gave the house of Haman, the Jews’ enemy, unto Esther, the queen. And Mordecai came before the king, for Esther had told what he was unto her.

2 Î mpăratul şi -a scos inelul, pe care -l luase înapoi dela Haman, şi l -a dat lui Mardoheu. Estera, din partea ei, a pus pe Mardoheu peste casa lui Haman.

And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.

3 A poi Estera a vorbit din nou înaintea împăratului. S'a aruncat la picioarele lui, a plîns, l -a rugat să oprească urmările răutăţii lui Haman, Agaghitul, şi izbînda planurilor lui împotriva Iudeilor.

¶ And Esther spoke yet again before the king and fell down at his feet and besought him with tears to put away the evil of Haman, the Agagite, and his device that he had devised against the Jews.

4 Î mpăratul a întins toiagul împărătesc de aur Esterei, care s'a ridicat şi a stat în picioare înaintea împăratului.

Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward Esther. So Esther arose and stood before the king,

5 E a a zis atunci:,, Dacă împăratul găseşte cu cale şi dacă am căpătat trecerea înaintea lui, dacă lucrul pare potrivit împăratului, şi dacă eu sînt plăcută înaintea lui, să se scrie ca să se întoarcă scrisorile făcute de Haman, fiul lui Hamedata, Agaghitul, şi scrise de el cu gînd să peardă pe Iudeii cari sînt în toate ţinuturile împăratului.

And said, If it pleases the king and if I have found grace in his sight and if the thing is right before the king and if I am good in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the letters devised by Haman, the son of Hammedatha, the Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews who are in all the king’s provinces.

6 C ăci cum aş putea eu să văd nenorocirea, care ar atinge pe poporul meu, şi cum aş putea să văd nimicirea neamului meu?``

For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come unto my people? How can I endure to see the destruction of my nation?

7 Î mpăratul Ahaşveroş a zis împărătesei Estera şi Iudeului Mardoheu:,, Iată, am dat Esterei casa lui Haman, şi el a fost spînzurat pe spînzurătoare, pentrucă întinsese mîna împotriva Iudeilor.

Then King Ahasuerus said unto Esther, the queen, and to Mordecai, the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the house of Haman, and they have hanged him upon the gallows because he extended his hand against the Jews.

8 S crieţi dar în folosul Iudeilor cum vă va plăcea, în numele împăratului, şi pecetluiţi cu inelul împăratului. Căci o scrisoare scrisă în numele împăratului şi pecetluită cu inelul împăratului nu poate fi desfiinţată.``

Write ye also for the Jews, as it pleases you, in the king’s name, and seal it with the king’s ring; for the writing which is written in the king’s name and sealed with the king’s ring may not be revoked.

9 L ogofeţii împăratului au fost chemaţi în vremea aceea, în a douăzeci şi treia zi a lunii a treia, adică luna Sivan, şi au scris, după tot ce a poruncit Mardoheu, Iudeilor, căpeteniilor oştirii, dregătorilor şi mai marilor celor o sută douăzeci şi şapte de ţinuturi aşezate de la India la Etiopia, fiecărui ţinut după scrierea lui, fiecărui popor după limba lui, şi Iudeilor după scrierea şi limba lor.

Then the king’s scribes were called at that time in the third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the twenty-third day thereof; and it was written according to all that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews and to the lieutenants and the captains and the princes of the provinces which are from India unto Ethiopia, one hundred and twenty-seven provinces, unto each province according to the writing thereof, and unto each people after their language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and according to their language.

10 A u scris în numele împăratului Ahaşveroş, şi au pecetluit cu inelul împăratului. Au trimes scrisorile prin alergători, călări pe cai şi catîri născuţi din iepe.

And he wrote in King Ahasuerus’s name and sealed it with the king’s ring and sent letters by posts on horseback, and riders on mules, mules that were born of mares,

11 P rin aceste scrisori, împăratul dădea voie Iudeilor, ori în care cetate ar fi fost, să se adune şi să-şi apere viaţa, să nimicească, să omoare şi să peardă, împreună cu pruncii şi femeile lor, pe toţi aceia din fiecare popor şi din fiecare ţinut cari ar lua armele să -i lovească, şi să le prădeze averile.

that the king granted power to the Jews who were in all the cities to gather themselves together and to stand for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish any army of the people or province that would assault them, and even their little ones and women, and to take the spoil of them for a prey,

12 A ceasta să se facă într'o singură zi, în toate ţinuturile împăratului Ahaşveroş, şi anume în a treisprezecea zi a lunii a douăsprezecea, adică luna Adar.

upon the same day in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar.

13 A ceste scrisori cuprindeau hotărîrea care trebuia vestită în fiecare ţinut, şi dădeau de ştire tuturor popoarelor că Iudeii stau gata pentru ziua aceea ca să se răzbune pe vrăjmaşii lor.

The copy of the writing which was to be given as law in each province was published unto all people and said that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge themselves of their enemies.

14 A lergătorii, călări pe cai şi pe catîri, au plecat îndată şi în toată graba, după porunca împăratului. Hotărîrea a fost vestită şi în capitala Susa.

So the posts rode upon mules, they went out on mules, being hastened and pressed on by the king’s commandment. And the law was given at Shushan, the palace.

15 M ardoheu a ieşit dela împărat, cu o haină împărătească albastră şi albă, cu o mare cunună de aur, şi cu o mantie de in subţire şi de purpură. Cetatea Susa striga şi se bucura.

¶ And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king in royal apparel of blue and white and with a great crown of gold and with a mantel of fine linen and purple; and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.

16 P entru Iudei nu era decît fericire şi bucurie, veselie şi slavă.

The Jews had light and gladness and joy and honour.

17 Î n fiecare ţinut şi în fiecare cetate, pretutindeni unde ajungea porunca împăratului şi hotărîrea lui, a fost între Iudei bucurie şi veselie, ospeţe şi zile de sărbătoare. Şi mulţi oameni dintre popoarele ţării s'au făcut Iudei, căci îi apucase frica de Iudei.

And in each province and in each city wherever the king’s commandment and his decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a banquet and a good day. And many of the people of the land became Jews, for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
