1 I saac a chemat pe Iacov, l -a binecuvîntat, şi i -a dat porunca aceasta:,, Să nu-ţi iei nevastă dintre fetele lui Canaan.

¶ Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him and charged him, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

2 S coală-te, du-te la Padan-Aram, în casa lui Betuel, tatăl mamei tale, şi ia-ţi de acolo o nevastă, dintre fetele lui Laban, fratele mamei tale.

Arise, go to Padanaram to the house of Bethuel, thy mother’s father, and take thee a wife from there of the daughters of Laban, thy mother’s brother.

3 D umnezeul cel atotputernic să te binecuvinteze, să te facă să creşti şi să te înmulţeşti, ca să ajungi o ceată de noroade!

And may God Almighty bless thee and make thee fruitful and multiply thee that thou may be a congregation of peoples

4 S ă-ţi dea binecuvîntarea lui Avraam, ţie şi seminţei tale cu tine, ca să stăpîneşti ţara în care locuieşti ca străin, şi pe care a dat -o lui Avraam.``

and give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee and to thy seed with thee; that thou may inherit the land in which thou art a stranger, which God gave unto Abraham.

5 Ş i Isaac a trimes pe Iacov, care s'a dus la Padan-Aram, la Laban, fiul lui Betuel, Arameul, fratele Rebecii, mama lui Iacov şi a lui Esau.

Thus Isaac sent Jacob away, and he went to Padanaram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob’s and Esau’s mother.

6 E sau a văzut că Isaac binecuvîntase pe Iacov, şi -l trimesese la Padan-Aram, ca să-şi ia nevastă de acolo, şi că, binecuvîntîndu -l, îi dăduse porunca aceasta:,, Să nu-ţi iei nevastă dintre fetele lui Canaan.``

¶ And Esau saw how Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Padanaram, to take a wife from there for himself, and that as he blessed him, he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan,

7 A văzut că Iacov ascultase de tatăl său şi de mama sa, şi plecase la Padan-Aram.

and that Jacob had hearkened unto his father and his mother and had gone to Padanaram;

8 E sau a înţeles astfel că fetele lui Canaan nu -i plăceau tatălui său Isaac.

and Esau, seeing that the daughters of Canaan did not please Isaac his father,

9 Ş i Esau s'a dus la Ismael. El a mai luat de nevastă, pe lîngă nevestele pe cari le avea, pe Mahalat, fata lui Ismael, fiul lui Avraam, şi sora lui Nebaiot.

Esau went unto Ishmael and took unto the wives which he had, Mahalath, the daughter of Ishmael, Abraham’s son, the sister of Nebajoth, to be his wife.

10 I acov a plecat din Beer-Şeba, şi şi -a luat drumul spre Haran.

¶ And Jacob went out from Beersheba and went toward Haran.

11 A ajuns într'un loc unde a rămas peste noapte, căci asfinţise soarele. A luat o piatră de acolo, a pus -o căpătîi, şi s'a culcat în locul acela.

And he found a certain place and slept there all night because the sun was set; and he took of the stones of that place and put them for his pillows and lay down in that place to sleep.

12 Ş i a visat o scară rezemată de pămînt, al cărei vîrf ajungea pînă la cer. Îngerii lui Dumnezeu se suiau şi se pogorau pe scara aceea.

And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven; and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

13 Ş i Domnul stătea deasupra ei, şi zicea:,, Eu sînt Domnul, Dumnezeul tatălui tău Avraam, şi Dumnezeul lui Isaac.`` Pămîntul pe care eşti culcat, ţi -l voi da ţie şi seminţei tale.

And, behold, the LORD stood above it and said, I AM the God of Abraham, thy father, and the God of Isaac; the land upon which thou dost lie, to thee will I give it and to thy seed;

14 S ămînţa ta va fi ca pulberea pămîntului; te vei întinde la apus şi la răsărit, la mează-noapte şi la mează-zi; şi toate familiile pămîntului vor fi binecuvîntate în tine şi în sămînţa ta.

and thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt multiply to the west and to the east and to the Aquilon and to the Negev; and in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

15 I ată, Eu sînt cu tine; te voi păzi pretutindeni pe unde vei merge, şi te voi aduce înapoi în ţara aceasta; căci nu te voi părăsi, pînă nu voi împlini ce-ţi spun.``

And, behold, I am with thee and will keep thee in all places where thou goest and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

16 I acov s'a trezit din somn, şi a zis:,, Cu adevărat, Domnul este în locul acesta, şi eu n'am ştiut.``

¶ And Jacob awakened out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the LORD is in this place, and I knew it not.

17 I -a fost frică, şi a zis:,, Cît de înfricoşat este locul acesta! Aici este casa lui Dumnezeu, aici este poarta cerurilor!``

And he was afraid and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

18 Ş i Iacov s'a sculat dis de dimineaţă, a luat piatra pe care o pusese căpătîi, a pus -o ca stîlp de aducere aminte, şi a turnat untdelemn pe vîrful ei.

And Jacob rose up early in the morning and took the stone that he had put for his pillows and set it up for a pillar and poured oil upon the top of it.

19 A dat locului acestuia numele Betel; dar mai înainte cetatea se chema Luz.

And he called the name of that place Bethel, since the name of that city was called Luz at first.

20 I acov a făcut o juruinţă, şi a zis:,, Dacă va fi Dumnezeu cu mine şi mă va păzi în timpul călătoriei pe care o fac, dacă-mi va da pîne să mănînc şi haine să mă îmbrac,

And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me and will keep me in this way that I go and will give me bread to eat and clothing to put on

21 ş i dacă mă voi întoarce în pace în casa tatălui meu, atunci Domnul va fi Dumnezeul meu;

so that I come again to my father’s house in peace, then shall the LORD be my God;

22 p iatra aceasta, pe care am pus -o ca stîlp de aducere aminte, va fi casa lui Dumnezeu, şi Îţi voi da a zecea parte din tot ce-mi vei da.``

and this stone, which I have set for a pillar, shall be God’s house; and of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth part unto thee.
