1 M oise şi Aaron s'au dus apoi la Faraon, şi i-au zis:,, Aşa vorbeşte Domnul, Dumnezeul lui Israel:, Lasă pe poporul Meu să plece, ca să prăznuiască în pustie un praznic în cinstea Mea.``

¶ And afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go that they may celebrate a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 F araon a răspuns:,, Cine este Domnul, ca să ascult de glasul Lui, şi să las pe Israel să plece?`` Eu nu cunosc pe Domnul, şi nu voi lăsa pe Israel să plece.``

And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should hearken to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3 E i au zis:,, Ni S'a arătat Dumnezeul Evreilor. Dă-ne voie să facem un drum de trei zile în pustie, ca să aducem jertfe Domnului, pentruca să nu ne bată cu ciumă sau cu sabie.``

¶ And they said, The God of the Hebrews has found us; therefore we shall go three days’ journey into the desert and sacrifice unto the LORD our God lest he encounter us with pestilence or with the sword.

4 Ş i împăratul Egiptului le -a zis:,, Moise şi Aaron, pentruce abateţi poporul de la lucrul lui? Plecaţi la lucrările voastre.``

Then the king of Egypt said unto them, Why do ye, Moses and Aaron, keep the people from their works? Go unto your burdens.

5 F araon a zis:,, Iată că poporul acesta s'a înmulţit acum în ţară, şi voi mai voiţi să -l faceţi să-şi înceteze lucrările?``

Pharaoh also said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them cease from their burdens.

6 Ş i chiar în ziua aceea, Faraon a dat următoarea poruncă isprăvniceilor norodului şi logofeţilor:

And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,

7 S ă nu mai daţi poporului paie ca mai înainte pentru facerea cărămizilor; ci să se ducă singuri să strîngă paie.

Ye shall no longer give the people firewood to make brick as until now; let them go and gather firewood for themselves.

8 T otuş să le cereţi acelaş număr de cărămizi, pe cari le făceau mai înainte; să nu le scădeţi nimic din ele, căci sînt nişte leneşi; de aceea strigă mereu:, Haidem să aducem jertfe Dumnezeului nostru.`

And the tally of the bricks which they made before, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish any of it; for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 S ă se dea mult de lucru oamenilor acestora, ca să aibă de lucru, şi să nu mai umble după năluci.``

Let more work be laid upon them that they may occupy themselves with it; and let them not regard words of deception.

10 I sprăvniceii poporului şi logofeţii au venit şi au spus poporului:,, Aşa vorbeşte Faraon:, Nu vă mai dau paie;

¶ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you firewood.

11 d uceţi-vă singuri de vă luaţi paie de unde veţi găsi; dar nu vi se scade nimic din lucrul vostru.``

Go ye, gather firewood where ye can find it; yet none of your work shall be diminished.

12 P oporul s'a răspîndit în toată ţara Egiptului, ca să strîngă mirişte în loc de paie.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather brush for firewood.

13 I sprăvniceii îi sileau, zicînd:,, Isprăviţi-vă lucrul, zi de zi, ca şi atunci cînd erau paie!``

And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily quotas, as when there was firewood.

14 A u bătut chiar pe logofeţii copiilor lui Israel, puşi peste ei de isprăvniceii lui Faraon.,, Pentruce``, li se zicea,,, n'aţi isprăvit ieri şi azi, ca mai înainte, numărul de cărămizi, care vă fusese hotărît?``

And the officers of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and they demanded, Why have ye not fulfilled your quotas in making brick both yesterday and today, as until now?

15 L ogofeţii copiilor lui Israel s'au dus să se plîngă la Faraon, şi i-au zis:,, Pentruce te porţi aşa cu robii tăi?

¶ Then the officers of the sons of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Why doest thou deal thus with thy slaves?

16 R obilor tăi nu li se mai dau paie ca mai înainte, şi totuş ni se spune:, Faceţi cărămizi!` Ba încă, robii tăi sînt şi bătuţi, ca şi cînd poporul tău ar fi vinovat.``

There is no firewood given unto thy slaves, yet they say to us, Make brick. Behold, thy slaves are beaten; and thy people sin.

17 F araon a răspuns:,, Sînteţi nişte leneşi şi nişte trîntori! De aceea ziceţi:, Haidem să aducem jertfe Domnului!`

And he replied, Ye are idle, ye are idle, therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice unto the LORD.

18 A cum, duceţi-vă îndată de lucraţi; nu vi se vor da paie, şi veţi face acelaş număr de cărămizi.``

Go therefore now and work, for no firewood shall be given you, yet ye shall deliver the tally of bricks.

19 L ogofeţii copiilor lui Israel au văzut în ce stare nenorocită erau, cînd li se zicea:,, Nu vi se scade nimic din numărul de cărămizi; ci în fiecare zi să faceţi lucrul cuvenit unei zile.``

Then the officers of the sons of Israel saw that they were afflicted after it was said, Ye shall not diminish any from the bricks of your daily quota.

20 C înd au ieşit dela Faraon, au întîlnit pe Moise şi pe Aaron, care îi aşteptau.

And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh;

21 Ş i le-au zis:,, Să vă vadă Domnul, şi să judece! Voi ne-aţi făcut urîţi lui Faraon şi slujitorilor lui; ba încă le-aţi dat sabia în mînă ca să ne omoare.``

and they said unto them, The LORD look upon you and judge because ye have made our savour to be a stench before Pharaoh and his slaves, putting a sword in their hands to slay us.

22 M oise s'a întors la Domnul, şi a zis:,, Doamne, pentruce ai făcut un astfel de rău poporului acestuia? Pentruce m'ai trimes?

Then Moses returned unto the LORD and said, Lord, why hast thou so afflicted this people? Why is it that thou hast sent me?

23 D e cînd m'am dus la Faraon ca să -i vorbesc în Numele Tău, el face şi mai rău poporului acestuia; şi n'ai izbăvit pe poporul Tău.``

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has afflicted this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
