1 D espués Moisés y Aarón entraron a la presencia del faraón, y le dijeron: —Jehová, el Dios de Israel, dice así: “Deja ir a mi pueblo para que me celebre una fiesta en el desierto.”

¶ And afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go that they may celebrate a feast unto me in the wilderness.

2 P ero el faraón respondió: —¿Quién es Jehová para que yo oiga su voz y deje ir a Israel? Yo no conozco a Jehová, ni tampoco dejaré ir a Israel.

And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should hearken to his voice to let Israel go? I do not know the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.

3 E llos dijeron: —El Dios de los hebreos se nos ha manifestado; iremos, pues, ahora, tres días de camino por el desierto, y ofreceremos sacrificios a Jehová, nuestro Dios, para que no venga sobre nosotros con peste o con espada.

¶ And they said, The God of the Hebrews has found us; therefore we shall go three days’ journey into the desert and sacrifice unto the LORD our God lest he encounter us with pestilence or with the sword.

4 E ntonces el rey de Egipto les dijo: —Moisés y Aarón, ¿por qué buscáis apartar al pueblo de su trabajo? Volved a vuestras tareas.

Then the king of Egypt said unto them, Why do ye, Moses and Aaron, keep the people from their works? Go unto your burdens.

5 D ijo también el faraón: —Ahora que el pueblo de la tierra es numeroso, vosotros queréis apartarlo de sus tareas.

Pharaoh also said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them cease from their burdens.

6 A quel mismo día el faraón dio esta orden a los cuadrilleros encargados de las labores del pueblo y a sus capataces:

And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people and their officers, saying,

7 — De aquí en adelante no daréis paja al pueblo para hacer ladrillo, como hasta ahora; que vayan ellos y recojan por sí mismos la paja.

Ye shall no longer give the people firewood to make brick as until now; let them go and gather firewood for themselves.

8 L es impondréis la misma tarea de ladrillo que hacían antes, y no les disminuiréis nada, pues están ociosos. Por eso claman diciendo: “Vamos y ofrezcamos sacrificios a nuestro Dios.”

And the tally of the bricks which they made before, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish any of it; for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

9 Q ue se les aumente el trabajo, para que estén ocupados y no atiendan a palabras mentirosas.

Let more work be laid upon them that they may occupy themselves with it; and let them not regard words of deception.

10 L os cuadrilleros y sus capataces salieron y dijeron al pueblo: —Así ha dicho el faraón: “Ya no os daré paja.

¶ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spoke to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you firewood.

11 I d vosotros y recoged la paja donde la halléis, pero nada se disminuirá de vuestra tarea.”

Go ye, gather firewood where ye can find it; yet none of your work shall be diminished.

12 E ntonces el pueblo se esparció por toda la tierra de Egipto para recoger rastrojo en lugar de paja.

So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather brush for firewood.

13 Y los cuadrilleros los apremiaban diciendo: —Acabad vuestra obra, la tarea de cada día en su día, como cuando se os daba paja.

And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily quotas, as when there was firewood.

14 Y azotaban a los capataces de los hijos de Israel que los cuadrilleros del faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, y les decían: —¿Por qué no habéis cumplido ni ayer ni hoy vuestra tarea de ladrillos como antes?

And the officers of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh’s taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and they demanded, Why have ye not fulfilled your quotas in making brick both yesterday and today, as until now?

15 L os capataces de los hijos de Israel fueron a quejarse ante el faraón y le dijeron: —¿Por qué tratas así a tus siervos?

¶ Then the officers of the sons of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Why doest thou deal thus with thy slaves?

16 N o se da paja a tus siervos, y con todo nos dicen: “Haced el ladrillo.” Además, tus siervos son azotados, y el pueblo tuyo es el culpable.

There is no firewood given unto thy slaves, yet they say to us, Make brick. Behold, thy slaves are beaten; and thy people sin.

17 É l respondió: —Estáis ociosos, sí, ociosos, y por eso decís: “Vamos y ofrezcamos sacrificios a Jehová.”

And he replied, Ye are idle, ye are idle, therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice unto the LORD.

18 I d, pues, ahora, y trabajad. No se os dará paja, y habéis de entregar la misma tarea de ladrillo.

Go therefore now and work, for no firewood shall be given you, yet ye shall deliver the tally of bricks.

19 L os capataces de los hijos de Israel se sintieron afligidos cuando les dijeron: «No se disminuirá nada de vuestro ladrillo, de la tarea de cada día.»

Then the officers of the sons of Israel saw that they were afflicted after it was said, Ye shall not diminish any from the bricks of your daily quota.

20 C uando salían de la presencia del faraón, se encontraron con Moisés y Aarón, que los estaban esperando,

And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh;

21 y les dijeron: —Que Jehová os examine y os juzgue, pues nos habéis hecho odiosos ante el faraón y sus siervos, y les habéis puesto la espada en la mano para que nos maten. Jehová comisiona a Moisés y a Aarón

and they said unto them, The LORD look upon you and judge because ye have made our savour to be a stench before Pharaoh and his slaves, putting a sword in their hands to slay us.

22 E ntonces Moisés se volvió a Jehová y preguntó: —Señor, ¿por qué afliges a este pueblo? ¿Para qué me enviaste?,

Then Moses returned unto the LORD and said, Lord, why hast thou so afflicted this people? Why is it that thou hast sent me?

23 p orque desde que yo fui al faraón para hablarle en tu nombre, ha afligido a este pueblo, y tú no has librado a tu pueblo.

For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he has afflicted this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.
