1 H ubo hambre en los días de David durante tres años consecutivos. David consultó a Jehová, y Jehová le dijo: «Es por causa de Saúl, y por esa casa sanguinaria, porque él mató a los gabaonitas.»

¶ Then there was a famine in the days of David for three consecutive years, and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is because of Saul and because of his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

2 E ntonces el rey llamó a los gabaonitas y les habló. (Los gabaonitas no eran de los hijos de Israel, sino del resto de los amorreos, a los cuales los hijos de Israel habían hecho juramento. Pero Saúl había intentado matarlos llevado de su celo por los hijos de Israel y de Judá).

And the king called the Gibeonites and said unto them: (now the Gibeonites were not of the sons of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the sons of Israel had sworn unto them, and Saul had sought to slay them in his zeal for the sons of Israel and Judah).

3 P reguntó, pues, David a los gabaonitas: —¿Qué puedo hacer por vosotros, o qué satisfacción debo daros para que bendigáis la heredad de Jehová?

Therefore, David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? And with what shall I make reconciliation that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?

4 L os gabaonitas le dijeron: —No tenemos nosotros queja por cuestiones de plata o de oro con Saúl y con su casa, ni queremos que muera nadie en Israel. —Lo que vosotros digáis, eso haré —respondió David.

And the Gibeonites replied unto him, We have no quarrel regarding silver nor gold with Saul, nor with his house; neither do we desire that anyone in Israel should die. And he said unto them, What ye shall say that will I do for you.

5 E ntonces dijeron ellos al rey: —De aquel hombre que nos diezmó e intentó exterminarnos, para que no quedara nada de nosotros en todo el territorio de Israel,

And they answered the king, The man that consumed us and that devised against us, let us destroy him that nothing of him remains in any of the borders of Israel.

6 q ue se nos entreguen siete hombres de sus descendientes, y los ahorcaremos delante de Jehová en Gabaa de Saúl, el escogido de Jehová. —Yo os los entregaré —respondió el rey.

Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will disjoint them, hanging them from a tree, unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

7 E l rey perdonó a Mefi-boset hijo de Jonatán hijo de Saúl, a causa del juramento que David y Jonatán, hijo de Saúl, se habían hecho en nombre de Jehová.

But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, because of the LORD’s oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

8 P ero tomó el rey a los dos hijos que Rizpa, hija de Aja, había tenido de Saúl, Armoni y Mefi-boset, y a los cinco hijos que Mical, hija de Saúl, había tenido de Adriel hijo de Barzilai, el meholatita,

But the king took the two sons of Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah, whom she gave birth unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth, and five sons of Michal, the daughter of Saul, whom she had given birth unto Adriel, the son of Barzillai, the Meholathite;

9 y los entregó en manos de los gabaonitas, quienes los ahorcaron en el monte delante de Jehová. Cayeron aquellos siete al mismo tiempo; fueron muertos en los primeros días de la cosecha, al comienzo de la siega de la cebada.

and he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they disjointed them hanging them from a tree in the hill before the LORD; and they fell all seven together and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

10 E ntonces Rizpa, hija de Aja, tomó una tela de luto y la tendió para recostarse sobre el peñasco. Allí estuvo desde el principio de la siega hasta que cayó sobre ellos la lluvia del cielo; y no dejó que ninguna ave del cielo se lanzara sobre ellos de día, ni las fieras del campo por la noche.

¶ And Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah, took sackcloth and spread it upon the rock from the beginning of harvest until water rained upon them out of heaven and allowed neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day nor the beasts of the field by night.

11 C uando le dijeron a David lo que hacía Rizpa, hija de Aja, concubina de Saúl,

And it was told David what Rizpah, the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

12 f ue él a recoger los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de Jonatán, su hijo, de los hombres de Jabes de Galaad, que los habían hurtado de la plaza de Bet-sán, donde los filisteos los habían colgado cuando mataron a Saúl en Gilboa.

Then David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan, his son, from the men of Jabeshgilead, who had stolen them from the plaza of Bethshan where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa;

13 E hizo David que se llevaran de allí los huesos de Saúl y los huesos de su hijo Jonatán; y recogieron también los huesos de los ahorcados.

and he brought up from there the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan, his son; and they gathered the bones of those that had been disjointed by being hanged from a tree,

14 S epultaron los huesos de Saúl y los de su hijo Jonatán en tierra de Benjamín, en Zela, en el sepulcro de Cis su padre; e hicieron todo lo que el rey había mandado. Y Dios fue propicio a la tierra después de esto. Abisai libra del gigante a David

and they buried the bones of Saul and Jonathan, his son, in the land of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father; and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.

15 V olvieron los filisteos a hacer la guerra a Israel. David descendió con sus siervos y pelearon contra los filisteos. David estaba cansado,

¶ And the Philistines made war again with Israel; and David went down, and his slaves with him, and fought against the Philistines; and David became weary.

16 e Isbi-benob, uno de los descendientes de los gigantes, cuya lanza pesaba trescientos siclos de bronce, y que llevaba ceñida una espada nueva, trató de matar a David;

And Ishbibenob, who was of the sons of the giant, and the weight of whose spear was three hundred shekels of brass in weight, was girded with a new sword and had determined to kill David.

17 p ero Abisai hijo de Sarvia llegó en su ayuda, hirió al filisteo y lo mató. Entonces los hombres de David juraron diciendo: «Nunca más de aquí en adelante saldrás con nosotros a la batalla, no sea que apagues la lámpara de Israel.» Los hombres de David matan a los gigantes

But Abishai, the son of Zeruiah, helped David, and smote the Philistine and killed him. Then the men of David swore unto him, saying, From now on thou shalt not go out with us to battle that thou not quench the light of Israel.

18 O tra segunda guerra hubo después en Gob contra los filisteos; entonces Sibecai, el husatita, mató a Saf, quien era uno de los descendientes de los gigantes.

And after this, there was a second war with the Philistines at Gob; then Sibbechai, the Hushathite, slew Saph, who was of the sons of the giant.

19 H ubo otra vez guerra en Gob contra los filisteos, en la cual Elhanán hijo de Jaare-oregim, de Belén, mató a Goliat, el geteo, cuya lanza tenía el asta tan grande como el rodillo de un telar.

And there was another war in Gob with the Philistines where Elhanan, the son of Jaareoregim of Bethlehem, slew Goliath, the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver’s beam.

20 D espués hubo otra guerra en Gat, donde había un hombre de gran estatura, el cual tenía doce dedos en las manos y otros doce en los pies, veinticuatro en total; también él descendía de los gigantes.

And after that there was another war in Gath where there was a man of great stature, that had six fingers on every hand, and six toes on every foot, twenty-four in number; and he also was of the sons of the giant.

21 É ste desafió a Israel, y lo mató Jonatán hijo de Simea, hermano de David.

And when he dishonoured Israel, Jonathan, the son of Shimea, the brother of David, slew him.

22 E stos cuatro eran descendientes de los gigantes de Gat, los cuales cayeron por mano de David y por mano de sus siervos.

These four were born to the giant in Gath and fell by the hand of David and by the hand of his slaves.
