1 C uando toda la gente acabó de pasar el Jordán, Jehová habló a Josué y le dijo:

¶ And it came to pass when all the people were finished passing the Jordan, that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying,

2 « Tomad del pueblo doce hombres, uno por cada tribu,

Take twelve men out of the people, out of each tribe a man,

3 y dadles esta orden: “Tomad de aquí, de en medio del Jordán, del lugar donde han puesto sus pies los sacerdotes, doce piedras, las cuales llevaréis con vosotros, y las depositaréis en el lugar donde habéis de pasar la noche.”»

and command them, saying, Take from here of the midst of Jordan, out of the place where the priests’ feet stood firm, twelve stones, and ye shall carry them over with you and leave them in the lodging place, where ye shall lodge this night.

4 E ntonces Josué llamó a los doce hombres que él había designado entre los hijos de Israel, uno por cada tribu.

Then Joshua called the twelve men, whom he had prepared of the sons of Israel, out of each tribe a man;

5 Y les dijo Josué: «Pasad ante el Arca de Jehová, vuestro Dios, hasta el medio del Jordán, y cada uno de vosotros tome una piedra sobre su hombro, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel,

and Joshua said unto them, Pass before the ark of the LORD your God into the midst of the Jordan and take ye up each one of you a stone upon his shoulder, according unto the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel,

6 p ara que esto quede como una señal entre vosotros. Y cuando vuestros hijos pregunten a sus padres mañana: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”,

that this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What do these stones mean unto you?

7 l es responderéis: “Las aguas del Jordán fueron divididas delante del Arca del pacto de Jehová; cuando ella pasó el Jordán, las aguas del Jordán se dividieron, y estas piedras servirán de monumento conmemorativo a los hijos de Israel para siempre.”»

Then ye shall answer them, That the waters of Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD; when it passed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off; and these stones shall be for a memorial unto the sons of Israel for ever.

8 L os hijos de Israel hicieron tal como Josué les mandó: tomaron doce piedras de en medio del Jordán, como Jehová lo había dicho a Josué, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Israel, las llevaron al lugar donde acamparon y las depositaron allí.

And the sons of Israel did so as Joshua commanded and took up twelve stones out of the midst of the Jordan, as the LORD spoke unto Joshua, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Israel and carried them over with them unto the place where they lodged and laid them down there.

9 J osué también levantó doce piedras en medio del Jordán, en el lugar donde estuvieron los pies de los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca del pacto, y allí han estado hasta hoy.

Joshua also set up twelve stones in the midst of the Jordan in the place where the feet of the priests who bore the ark of the covenant had stood; and they are there unto this day.

10 L os sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca se pararon en medio del Jordán hasta que se hizo todo lo que Jehová había mandado a Josué que dijera al pueblo —conforme a todas las cosas que Moisés había mandado a Josué—, y el pueblo se dio prisa y pasó.

¶ For the priests who bore the ark stood in the midst of the Jordan until everything was finished that the LORD commanded Joshua to speak unto the people, according to all that Moses had commanded Joshua; and the people made haste and passed.

11 C uando todo el pueblo acabó de pasar, también pasó el Arca de Jehová, y los sacerdotes iban a la cabeza del pueblo.

And when all the people were finished passing, the ark of the LORD passed, and the priests, in the presence of the people.

12 T ambién los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés pasaron armados delante de los hijos de Israel, según Moisés les había dicho;

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and half the tribe of Manasseh passed armed before the sons of Israel, as Moses had said unto them.

13 c omo cuarenta mil hombres armados, listos para la guerra, pasaron hacia la llanura de Jericó delante de Jehová.

About forty thousand men prepared for war passed over before the LORD unto battle, towards the plains of Jericho.

14 E n aquel día Jehová engrandeció a Josué a los ojos de todo Israel. Y le temieron como habían temido a Moisés durante toda su vida.

On that day the LORD magnified Joshua in the sight of all Israel; and they feared him as they had feared Moses, all the days of his life.

15 L uego Jehová habló a Josué y le dijo:

And the LORD spoke unto Joshua, saying,

16 « Manda a los sacerdotes que llevan el Arca del testimonio que salgan del Jordán.»

Command the priests that bear the ark of the testimony, that they come up out of the Jordan.

17 E ntonces Josué ordenó a los sacerdotes: «Salid del Jordán.»

Joshua, therefore, commanded the priests, saying, Come ye up out of the Jordan.

18 Y aconteció que cuando los sacerdotes que llevaban el Arca del pacto de Jehová salieron de en medio del Jordán, y las plantas de los pies de los sacerdotes estuvieron en lugar seco, las aguas del Jordán volvieron a su lugar y corrieron como antes, sobre todos sus bordes.

And it came to pass, when the priests that bore the ark of the covenant of the LORD came up out of the midst of the Jordan and the soles of the priests’ feet were lifted up unto the dry land, that the waters of the Jordan returned unto their place, flowing as before over all its banks.

19 E l pueblo partió del Jordán el día diez del primer mes y acamparon en Gilgal, al oriente de Jericó.

And the people came up out of the Jordan on the tenth day of the first month and camped in Gilgal, on the east side of Jericho.

20 J osué erigió en Gilgal las doce piedras que habían traído del Jordán.

¶ And Joshua raised up in Gilgal the twelve stones, which they took out of the Jordan.

21 Y dijo a los hijos de Israel: «Cuando el día de mañana os pregunten vuestros hijos: “¿Qué significan estas piedras?”,

And he spoke unto the sons of Israel, saying, When your children shall ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What do these stones mean unto you?

22 d iréis a vuestros hijos: “Israel pasó en seco por este Jordán,

Then ye shall let your children know, saying, Israel came over this Jordan on dry land.

23 p orque Jehová, vuestro Dios, secó las aguas del Jordán delante de vosotros, hasta que pasasteis, de la misma manera que Jehová, vuestro Dios, había hecho en el Mar Rojo, el cual secó delante de nosotros hasta que pasamos,

For the LORD your God dried up the waters of the Jordan from before you until ye had passed, as the LORD your God did to the Red sea, which he dried up from before us until we had passed,

24 p ara que todos los pueblos de la tierra conozcan que la mano de Jehová es poderosa, y para que temáis a Jehová, vuestro Dios, todos los días.”»

that all the people of the earth might know the hand of the LORD, that it is mighty; that ye might fear the LORD your God all the days.
