1 V inieron los de Quiriat-jearim, se llevaron el Arca de Jehová y la pusieron en casa de Abinadab, situada en el collado; y santificaron a Eleazar, su hijo, para que guardara el Arca de Jehová. Samuel, juez de Israel

¶ And the men of Kirjathjearim came and carried up the ark of the LORD and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.

2 D esde el día en que llegó el Arca a Quiriat-jearim pasaron muchos días, veinte años; y toda la casa de Israel suspiraba por Jehová.

And it came to pass while the ark abode in Kirjathjearim, that the time was long, for it was twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the LORD.

3 H abló entonces Samuel a toda la casa de Israel, diciendo: «Si de todo vuestro corazón os volvéis a Jehová, quitad de entre vosotros los dioses ajenos y a Astarot, dedicad vuestro corazón a Jehová y servidle sólo a él, y él os librará de manos de los filisteos.»

¶ And Samuel spoke unto all the house of Israel, saying, If ye return unto the LORD with all your hearts, then put away the strange gods and Ashtaroth from among you and prepare your hearts unto the LORD and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.

4 E ntonces los hijos de Israel quitaron a los baales y a Astarot, y sirvieron sólo a Jehová.

Then the sons of Israel did put away the Baalim and Ashtaroth and served the LORD only.

5 L uego dijo Samuel: «Reunid a todo Israel en Mizpa, y yo oraré por vosotros a Jehová.»

And Samuel said, Gather all Israel in Mizpeh, and I will pray for you unto the LORD.

6 S e reunieron, pues, en Mizpa, sacaron agua y la derramaron delante de Jehová; ayunaron aquel día allí, y dijeron: «Contra Jehová hemos pecado.» Y juzgó Samuel a los hijos de Israel en Mizpa.

And they gathered together in Mizpeh and drew water and poured it out before the LORD and fasted on that day and said there, We have sinned against the LORD. And Samuel judged the sons of Israel in Mizpeh.

7 C uando supieron los filisteos que los hijos de Israel estaban reunidos en Mizpa, subieron los príncipes de los filisteos contra Israel; al oír esto, los hijos de Israel tuvieron temor de los filisteos.

¶ And when the Philistines heard that the sons of Israel were gathered together in Mizpeh, the cardinals of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the sons of Israel heard it, they were afraid of the Philistines.

8 E ntonces dijeron los hijos de Israel a Samuel: «No ceses de clamar por nosotros a Jehová, nuestro Dios, para que nos guarde de manos de los filisteos.»

And the sons of Israel said to Samuel, Cease not to cry unto the LORD our God for us that he will save us out of the hand of the Philistines.

9 T omó Samuel un cordero de leche y lo sacrificó entero en holocausto a Jehová; y clamó Samuel a Jehová por Israel, y Jehová lo escuchó.

And Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it for a burnt offering completely unto the LORD, and Samuel cried unto the LORD for Israel, and the LORD heard him.

10 M ientras Samuel sacrificaba el holocausto, los filisteos llegaron para pelear con los hijos de Israel. Pero Jehová tronó aquel día con gran estruendo sobre los filisteos, los atemorizó y fueron vencidos delante de Israel.

And it came to pass as Samuel was offering up the burnt offering that the Philistines drew near to battle against Israel. But the LORD thundered with a great thunder on that day upon the Philistines and crushed them, and they were smitten before Israel.

11 L os hijos de Israel salieron de Mizpa, siguieron a los filisteos y los hirieron hasta abajo de Bet-car.

And the men of Israel went out of Mizpeh and pursued the Philistines and smote them until they were below Bethcar.

12 T omó luego Samuel una piedra, la colocó entre Mizpa y Sen, y le puso por nombre Eben-ezer, porque dijo: «Hasta aquí nos ayudó Jehová.»

Then Samuel took a stone and set it between Mizpeh and Shen and called the name of it Ebenezer, saying, Thus far the LORD has helped us.

13 A sí fueron sometidos los filisteos y no volvieron a entrar más en el territorio de Israel; y la mano de Jehová estuvo contra los filisteos todos los días de Samuel.

¶ So the Philistines were subdued, and they came no more into the border of Israel, and the hand of the LORD was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.

14 F ueron restituidas a los hijos de Israel las ciudades que los filisteos habían tomado a los israelitas, desde Ecrón hasta Gat; e Israel libró su territorio de manos de los filisteos. También hubo paz entre Israel y el amorreo.

And the cities which the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel from Ekron even unto Gath with their borders, and Israel delivered them out of the hands of the Philistines. And there was peace between Israel and the Amorite.

15 S amuel juzgó a Israel todo el tiempo que vivió.

And Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.

16 H acía cada año un recorrido por Bet-el, Gilgal y Mizpa. Juzgaba a Israel en todos estos lugares.

And he went from year to year in circuit to Bethel and Gilgal and Mizpeh and judged Israel in all those places.

17 D espués volvía a Ramá, porque allí estaba su casa. Allí juzgaba a Israel y también allí edificó un altar a Jehová.

Then he would return to Ramah, for there was his house, and there he judged Israel, and there he built an altar unto the LORD.
