1 A conteció que cuando David acabó de hablar con Saúl, el alma de Jonatán quedó ligada con la de David, y lo amó Jonatán como a sí mismo.

¶ And it came to pass when he had finished speaking unto Saul that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.

2 A quel día Saúl tomó consigo a David y no lo dejó volver a casa de su padre.

And Saul took him that day and would not let him return to his father’s house.

3 H izo Jonatán un pacto con David, porque lo amaba como a sí mismo.

Then Jonathan and David made a covenant because he loved him as his own soul.

4 S e quitó Jonatán el manto que llevaba y se lo dio a David, así como otras ropas suyas, su espada, su arco y su cinturón.

And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him and gave it to David and his garments, even to his sword and to his bow and to his girdle.

5 Y salía David a dondequiera que Saúl lo enviaba, y se portaba prudentemente. Entonces lo puso Saúl al frente de su gente de guerra, y era bien visto por todo el pueblo, y también por los siervos de Saúl. Saúl tiene celos de David

And David went out wherever Saul sent him and behaved himself prudently, and Saul set him over the men of war, and he was accepted in the sight of all the people and also in the sight of Saul’s slaves.

6 A conteció que cuando volvían, después de haber matado David al filisteo, salieron las mujeres de todas las ciudades de Israel a recibir al rey Saúl cantando y danzando con panderos, con cánticos de alegría y con instrumentos de música.

¶ And it came to pass as they came, when David was returned from the slaughter of the Philistine, that the women came out of all cities of Israel, singing and dancing, to meet King Saul, with tambourines, with joy, and with instruments of music.

7 M ientras danzaban, las mujeres cantaban diciendo: «Saúl hirió a sus miles, y David a sus diez miles.»

And the women sang as they played and said, Saul has slain his thousands and David his ten thousands.

8 S aúl se enojó mucho y le desagradaron estas palabras, pues decía: «A David le dan diez miles, y a mí miles; no le falta más que el reino.»

And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him, and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands; and what can he have more but the kingdom?

9 Y desde aquel día Saúl no miró con buenos ojos a David.

And Saul eyed David from that day and forward.

10 A conteció al otro día, que un espíritu malo de parte de Dios se apoderó de Saúl, y él deliraba en medio de la casa. David tocaba como otras veces. Saúl tenía la lanza en la mano.

And it came to pass on the next day that the evil spirit from God came upon Saul, and he prophesied in the midst of the house, and David played with his hand as at other times, and there was a spear in Saul’s hand.

11 S aúl arrojó la lanza, pensando: «Voy a clavar a David en la pared.» Pero David lo evadió dos veces.

And Saul cast the spear, saying, I will smite David to the wall with it. And David avoided out of his presence twice.

12 T emía Saúl a David, por cuanto Jehová estaba con él, y de Saúl se había apartado;

¶ But Saul was afraid of David because the LORD was with him and had departed from Saul.

13 p or eso Saúl lo alejó de su lado y lo puso al frente de un millar de hombres. Así David salía y entraba a la cabeza de sus hombres.

Therefore, Saul removed him from him and made him captain over a thousand, and he went out and came in before the people.

14 D avid se conducía prudentemente en todos sus asuntos y Jehová estaba con él.

And David behaved himself prudently in all his ways, and the LORD was with him.

15 A l ver Saúl que se portaba tan prudentemente, tenía temor de él.

Therefore, when Saul saw that he behaved himself very prudently, he was afraid of him.

16 P ero todo Israel y Judá amaba a David, pues salía y entraba a la cabeza de ellos.

But all Israel and Judah loved David because he went out and came in before them.

17 E ntonces dijo Saúl a David: —Voy a darte por mujer a Merab, mi hija mayor, con tal que me seas hombre valiente y pelees las batallas de Jehová. Pero Saúl pensaba: «Que no sea mi mano la que se levante contra él, sino la mano de los filisteos.»

And Saul said to David, Behold I will give thee my elder daughter Merab to wife; only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’s battles. For Saul said to himself, My hand shall not be against him, but the hand of the Philistines shall be against him.

18 P ero David respondió a Saúl: —¿Quién soy yo, qué es mi vida o la familia de mi padre en Israel, para que yo sea yerno del rey?

And David said unto Saul, Who am I, and what is my life or my father’s family in Israel that I should be son-in-law to the king?

19 C uando llegó el tiempo en que Merab, hija de Saúl, debía ser entregada a David, fue dada por mujer a Adriel, el meholatita.

And it came to pass at the time when Merab, Saul’s daughter, should have been given to David that she was given unto Adriel, the Meholathite, to wife.

20 P ero Mical, la otra hija de Saúl, amaba a David. Le fue dicho a Saúl, y a éste le pareció bien,

But Michal, Saul’s other daughter, loved David, and they told Saul, and the thing pleased him.

21 p orque pensó: «Se la daré, pero será para él un lazo que le hará caer en manos de los filisteos.» Dijo, pues, Saúl a David por segunda vez: —Tú serás mi yerno hoy.

And Saul said, I will give her to him that she may be a snare to him and that the hand of the Philistines may be against him. Therefore, Saul said to David, Thou shalt this day be my son-in-law with the other one.

22 Y mandó Saúl a sus siervos: —Hablad en secreto a David, diciéndole: “He aquí el rey te ama, y todos sus siervos te quieren bien; acepta ser, pues, yerno del rey.”

And Saul commanded his slaves, saying, Speak with David secretly and say, Behold, the king has delight in thee, and all his slaves love thee; now, therefore, be the king’s son-in-law.

23 L os criados de Saúl repitieron estas palabras a los oídos de David. Y éste les respondió: —¿Os parece a vosotros que es poco ser yerno del rey; yo, que soy un hombre pobre y de humilde condición?

And Saul’s slaves spoke those words in the ears of David. And David said, Does it seem to you a light thing to be a king’s son-in-law, seeing that I am a poor man and lightly esteemed?

24 L os criados de Saúl le informaron de la respuesta, diciendo: «Tales palabras ha dicho David.»

And the slaves of Saul told him, saying, David spoke these words.

25 S aúl les dijo: —Decid así a David: “El rey no desea la dote, sino cien prepucios de filisteos, para vengarse de los enemigos del rey.” Pero Saúl pensaba hacer caer a David en manos de los filisteos.

And Saul said, Thus shall ye say to David, The desire of the king is not in any dowry, but one hundred foreskins of the Philistines, to be avenged of the king’s enemies. For Saul thought to make David fall by the hand of the Philistines.

26 C uando sus siervos comunicaron a David estas palabras, pareció bien a los ojos de David la cosa de ser yerno del rey. Y antes que el plazo se cumpliera,

And when his slaves told David these words, it pleased David well to be the king’s son-in-law, and the days were not expired.

27 s e levantó David, se fue con su gente y mató a doscientos hombres de los filisteos. Trajo David los prepucios de ellos y los entregó todos al rey, a fin de hacerse yerno del rey. Entonces Saúl le dio a su hija Mical por mujer.

Therefore David arose and went, he and his men, and slew of the Philistines two hundred men, and David brought their foreskins, and they gave them all to the king that he might be the king’s son-in-law. And Saul gave him Michal, his daughter, to wife.

28 A l ver esto Saúl, comprendió que Jehová estaba con David, y que su hija Mical lo amaba.

But Saul, seeing and knowing that the LORD was with David and that his daughter Michal loved him,

29 P or eso tuvo más temor de David, y fue enemigo de David todos los días de su vida.

was yet the more afraid of David; and Saul became David’s enemy continually.

30 S alían en campaña los príncipes de los filisteos, y cada vez que salían, David tenía más éxito que todos los siervos de Saúl, por lo cual su nombre se hizo muy famoso.

Then the princes of the Philistines went forth, and it came to pass after they went forth that David behaved himself more prudently than all the slaves of Saul so that his name was much set by.
