1 J oram hijo de Acab comenzó a reinar en Samaria sobre Israel en el año dieciocho de Josafat, rey de Judá. Reinó doce años.

¶ Now Jehoram, the son of Ahab, began to reign over Israel in Samaria the eighteenth year of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, and reigned twelve years.

2 P ero hizo lo malo a los ojos de Jehová, aunque no como su padre y su madre, pues quitó las estatuas de Baal que su padre había hecho.

And he did evil in the sight of the LORD, but not like his father and like his mother, for he put away the images of Baal that his father had made.

3 N o obstante, se entregó a los pecados de Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que hizo pecar a Israel, y no se apartó de ellos. Eliseo predice la victoria sobre Moab

Nevertheless, he cleaved unto the sins of Jeroboam, the son of Nebat, who made Israel sin; he did not depart from them.

4 M esa, rey de Moab, era propietario de ganados y pagaba al rey de Israel cien mil corderos y cien mil carneros con su lana.

And Mesha, king of Moab, was a pastor and rendered unto the king of Israel one hundred thousand lambs and one hundred thousand rams, with the wool.

5 P ero cuando Acab murió, el rey de Moab se rebeló contra el rey de Israel.

But it came to pass, when Ahab was dead, that the king of Moab rebelled against the king of Israel.

6 S alió entonces de Samaria el rey Joram y pasó revista a todo Israel.

¶ And King Jehoram went out of Samaria the same time and numbered all Israel.

7 F ue y envió a decir a Josafat, rey de Judá: «El rey de Moab se ha rebelado contra mí: ¿quieres venir conmigo a la guerra contra Moab?» El rey de Judá respondió: «Iré, porque yo soy como tú, mi pueblo como tu pueblo, y mis caballos como los tuyos.»

And he went and sent to Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, saying, The king of Moab has rebelled against me; wilt thou go with me against Moab to battle? And he said, I will go up; I am as thou art, my people as thy people and my horses as thy horses.

8 Y añadió: «¿Por qué camino iremos?» Joram respondió: «Por el camino del desierto de Edom.»

And he said, Which way shall we go up? And he answered, The way through the wilderness of Edom.

9 S alieron, pues, el rey de Israel, el rey de Judá y el rey de Edom. Como tuvieron que dar un rodeo por el desierto, a los siete días de camino les faltó agua para el ejército y para las bestias que los seguían.

So the king of Israel went and the king of Judah and the king of Edom, and as they walked round about seven days’ journey through the desert, there was no water for the host or for the beasts that followed them.

10 E ntonces el rey de Israel dijo: —¡Ah! Jehová ha llamado a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los moabitas.

Then the king of Israel said, Alas! The LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab!

11 P ero Josafat dijo: —¿Acaso no hay aquí profeta de Jehová para que consultemos a Jehová por medio de él? Uno de los siervos del rey de Israel dijo: —Aquí está Eliseo hijo de Safat, que servía a Elías.

But Jehoshaphat said, Is there not a prophet of the LORD here, that we may enquire of the LORD by him? And one of the king of Israel’s slaves answered and said, Here is Elisha, the son of Shaphat, who poured water on the hands of Elijah.

12 — Éste tendrá palabra de Jehová —afirmó Josafat. El rey de Israel, Josafat y el rey de Edom descendieron hacia donde él estaba.

And Jehoshaphat said, The word of the LORD is with him. So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat and the king of Edom went down to him.

13 P ero Eliseo dijo al rey de Israel: —¿Qué tengo yo que ver contigo? ¡Vete a los profetas de tu padre y a los profetas de tu madre! El rey de Israel le respondió: —No, porque Jehová ha reunido a estos tres reyes para entregarlos en manos de los moabitas.

Then Elisha said unto the king of Israel, What have I to do with thee? Go to the prophets of thy father and to the prophets of thy mother. And the king of Israel said unto him, No, for the LORD has called these three kings together, to deliver them into the hand of Moab.

14 E liseo dijo: —¡Vive Jehová de los ejércitos, en cuya presencia estoy!, que si no sintiera respeto por Josafat, rey de Judá, no te miraría a ti ni te vería.

And Elisha said, As the LORD of the hosts lives, before whom I stand, surely, were it not that I regard the presence of Jehoshaphat, the king of Judah, I would not look toward thee nor see thee.

15 P ero ahora traedme un músico. Mientras el músico tocaba, la mano de Jehová se posó sobre Eliseo,

But now bring me a minstrel. And when the minstrel played, the hand of the LORD came upon him;

16 q uien dijo: «Así ha dicho Jehová: “Haced en este valle muchos estanques.”

and he said, Thus hath the LORD said, Make this valley full of ditches.

17 P orque así dice Jehová: “No veréis viento, ni veréis lluvia, pero este valle se llenará de agua y beberéis vosotros, vuestras bestias y vuestros ganados.”

For thus hath the LORD said, Ye shall not see wind, neither shall ye see rain; yet this valley shall be filled with water, that ye may drink, both ye and your livestock and your beasts.

18 Y como esto es poca cosa a los ojos de Jehová, él entregará también a los moabitas en vuestras manos.

And this is but a light thing in the sight of the LORD; he will also deliver the Moabites into your hands.

19 D estruiréis toda ciudad fortificada y toda villa hermosa, talaréis todo buen árbol, cegaréis todas las fuentes de aguas y destruiréis con piedras toda tierra fértil.»

And ye shall smite every fenced city and every choice city and shall fell every good tree and stop every fountain of water and mar every good piece of land with stones.

20 A conteció, pues, que a la mañana, cuando se ofrece el sacrificio, de la parte de Edom vinieron las aguas y la tierra se inundó.

¶ And it came to pass in the morning, when the present was offered, that water came by the way of Edom, and the land was filled with water.

21 A l enterarse todos los de Moab que los reyes subían a pelear contra ellos, se juntaron desde los que apenas podían ceñir armadura en adelante, y se pusieron en la frontera.

And when all the Moabites heard that the kings were come up to fight against them, they gathered all that were able to gird on a girdle and upward and stood in the border.

22 C uando se levantaron por la mañana y brilló el sol sobre las aguas, vieron los de Moab desde lejos las aguas rojas como sangre

And when they rose up early in the morning, and the sun shone upon the water, and the Moabites saw the water before them as red as blood;

23 y dijeron: «¡Esto es sangre derramada a espada! Los reyes se han vuelto uno contra otro y cada uno ha dado muerte a su compañero. Conque ¡al botín, Moab!»

and they said, This is blood; the kings are surely slain, and they have smitten one another. Now therefore, Moab, to the spoil.

24 P ero cuando llegaron al campamento de Israel, se levantaron los israelitas y atacaron a los de Moab, los cuales huyeron ante ellos. Entonces los persiguieron, mataron a los de Moab,

But when they came to the camp of Israel, the Israelites rose up and smote the Moabites so that they fled before them, but they went forward smiting the Moabites, even in their country.

25 a solaron las ciudades y en todas las tierras fértiles echó cada uno su piedra y las llenaron. Cegaron también todas las fuentes de las aguas y derribaron todos los buenos árboles. Sólo quedó en pie la ciudad de Kir-hareset, pero los honderos la rodearon y la destruyeron.

And they beat down the cities, and on every good piece of land each man cast his stone and filled it, and they stopped all the fountains of water and felled all the good trees until they left their stones only in Kirharaseth, for the slingers went about it and smote it.

26 C uando el rey de Moab vio que lo vencían en la batalla, tomó consigo setecientos hombres que manejaban espada para atacar al rey de Edom; pero no pudieron hacerlo.

And when the king of Moab saw that the battle was overcoming him, he took with him seven hundred men that drew swords to break through unto the king of Edom, but they could not.

27 E ntonces tomó a su primogénito, que había de reinar en su lugar, y lo sacrificó en holocausto sobre el muro. Esto provocó tan gran enojo contra Israel, que se alejaron de allí y regresaron a su tierra.

Then he took his eldest son that should have reigned in his stead and offered him for a burnt offering upon the wall. And there was great indignation in Israel, and they departed from him and returned to their own land.
