1 E ste Melquisedec, rey de Salem, sacerdote del Dios Altísimo, salió a recibir a Abraham que volvía de la derrota de los reyes, y lo bendijo.

¶ For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him,

2 A él asimismo dio Abraham los diezmos de todo. Melquisedec significa primeramente «Rey de justicia», y también «Rey de Salem», esto es, «Rey de paz».

to whom Abraham also gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is King of peace;

3 N ada se sabe de su padre ni de su madre ni de sus antepasados; ni tampoco del principio y fin de su vida. Y así, a semejanza del Hijo de Dios, permanece sacerdote para siempre.

without father, without mother, without lineage, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life, but made like unto the Son of God; abides a priest continually.

4 C onsiderad, pues, cuán grande era éste, a quien aun Abraham el patriarca dio diezmos del botín.

Now consider how great this one was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.

5 C iertamente los que de entre los hijos de Leví reciben el sacerdocio, tienen mandamiento de tomar del pueblo los diezmos según la Ley, es decir, de sus hermanos, aunque estos también sean descendientes de Abraham.

And verily those that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they also have come out of the loins of Abraham;

6 P ero aquel cuya genealogía no es contada de entre ellos, tomó de Abraham los diezmos y bendijo al que tenía las promesas.

but he whose descent is not counted in those took tithes from Abraham and blessed him that had the promises.

7 Y , sin discusión alguna, el menor es bendecido por el mayor.

And without any contradiction the less is blessed of the better.

8 Y aquí ciertamente reciben los diezmos hombres mortales; pero allí, uno de quien se da testimonio de que vive.

In the same manner, here men that die take tithes; but there he received them, of whom it is witnessed that he lives.

9 Y por decirlo así, en Abraham pagó el diezmo también Leví, que recibe los diezmos,

And as I may so say, Levi also, who received tithes, paid tithes in Abraham.

10 p orque aún estaba en las entrañas de su padre cuando Melquisedec le salió al encuentro.

For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.

11 S i, pues, la perfección fuera por el sacerdocio levítico —bajo el cual recibió el pueblo la Ley—, ¿qué necesidad habría aún de que se levantara otro sacerdote, según el orden de Melquisedec, y que no fuera llamado según el orden de Aarón?,

¶ If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec and not be called after the order of Aaron?

12 p ues cambiado el sacerdocio, necesario es que haya también cambio de ley;

For the priesthood being transposed, there is made of necessity a translation also of the law.

13 y aquel de quien se dice esto, es de otra tribu, de la cual nadie sirvió al altar.

For he of whom these things are spoken pertains to another tribe, of which no one presided at the altar.

14 P orque sabido es que nuestro Señor vino de la tribu de Judá, de la cual nada habló Moisés tocante al sacerdocio.

For it is manifest that our Lord sprang out of Juda, of which tribe Moses spoke nothing concerning priesthood.

15 Y esto es aun más evidente si a semejanza de Melquisedec se levanta un sacerdote distinto,

And it is yet far more manifest: if there arises another priest who is like unto Melchisedec,

16 n o constituido conforme a la ley meramente humana, sino según el poder de una vida indestructible,

who is not made according to the law of a carnal commandment, but by the virtue of an indissoluble life;

17 p ues se da testimonio de él: «Tú eres sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.»

for the testimony is of this manner, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

18 Q ueda, pues, abrogado el mandamiento anterior a causa de su debilidad e ineficacia

For there is verily a disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness of it;

19 — pues la Ley nada perfeccionó— y se introduce una mejor esperanza, por la cual nos acercamos a Dios.

for the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did, by which we draw near unto God.

20 Y esto no fue hecho sin juramento;

And even more, inasmuch as it is not without an oath

21 p orque los otros ciertamente sin juramento fueron hechos sacerdotes; pero éste, con el juramento del que le dijo: «Juró el Señor y no se arrepentirá: tú eres sacerdote para siempre, según el orden de Melquisedec.»

(for the others indeed without an oath were made priests, but this one with an oath by him that said unto him, The Lord swore and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec);

22 P or tanto, Jesús es hecho fiador de un mejor pacto.

by so much better testament is Jesus made surety.

23 Y los otros sacerdotes llegaron a ser muchos, debido a que por la muerte no podían continuar;

And the others, truly, were many priests because they were not able to continue by reason of death:

24 p ero éste, por cuanto permanece para siempre, tiene un sacerdocio inmutable.

but this man, because he continues forever, has the intransmissible priesthood.

25 P or eso puede también salvar perpetuamente a los que por él se acercan a Dios, viviendo siempre para interceder por ellos.

Therefore he is able also to save to the uttermost those that come unto God by him, seeing he ever lives to make intercession for them.

26 T al sumo sacerdote nos convenía: santo, inocente, sin mancha, apartado de los pecadores y hecho más sublime que los cielos;

For it was expedient that we have such a high priest, who is holy, innocent, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens,

27 q ue no tiene necesidad cada día, como aquellos sumos sacerdotes, de ofrecer primero sacrificios por sus propios pecados, y luego por los del pueblo, porque esto lo hizo una vez para siempre, ofreciéndose a sí mismo.

who needs not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins and then for the people’s; for this he did once, when he offered up himself.

28 L a Ley constituye sumos sacerdotes a hombres débiles; pero la palabra del juramento, posterior a la Ley, constituye al Hijo, hecho perfecto para siempre.

For the law makes men high priests who have weakness; but the word of the oath, which was after the law, has made perfect a Son forever.
