1 D os días después era la Pascua y la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura. Los principales sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban cómo prenderlo con engaño y matarlo.

¶ Two days after was the passover and the days of unleavened bread; and the princes of the priests and the scribes sought how they might take him by craft, that they might kill him.

2 Y decían: «No durante la Fiesta, para que no se alborote el pueblo.» Jesús es ungido en Betania

But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar of the people.

3 P ero estando él en Betania, sentado a la mesa en casa de Simón el leproso, vino una mujer con un vaso de alabastro de perfume de nardo puro de mucho valor; y quebrando el vaso de alabastro, se lo derramó sobre su cabeza.

And he being in Bethany in the house of Simon the leper, sitting at the table, there came a woman having an alabaster box of ointment of spikenard very precious; and breaking the alabaster, she poured it over his head.

4 E ntonces algunos se enojaron dentro de sí, y dijeron: —¿Para qué se ha hecho este desperdicio de perfume?,

And there were some that had indignation within themselves and said, Why was this waste of the ointment made?

5 p ues podía haberse vendido por más de trescientos denarios y haberse dado a los pobres. Y murmuraban contra ella.

For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarius and given to the poor. And they murmured against her.

6 P ero Jesús dijo: —Dejadla, ¿por qué la molestáis? Buena obra me ha hecho.

But Jesus said, Let her alone; why trouble ye her? She has wrought a good work on me.

7 S iempre tendréis a los pobres con vosotros y cuando queráis les podréis hacer bien; pero a mí no siempre me tendréis.

For ye have the poor with you always, and whenever ye will, ye may do them good; but me ye have not always.

8 É sta ha hecho lo que podía, porque se ha anticipado a ungir mi cuerpo para la sepultura.

She has done what she could, for she has anticipated anointing my body for the burial.

9 D e cierto os digo que dondequiera que se predique este evangelio, en todo el mundo, también se contará lo que ésta ha hecho, para memoria de ella. Judas ofrece entregar a Jesús

Verily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached throughout the whole world, this also that she has done shall be spoken of for a memorial of her.

10 E ntonces Judas Iscariote, uno de los doce, fue a los principales sacerdotes para entregárselo.

Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, came unto the princes of the priests to deliver him unto them.

11 E llos, al oírlo, se alegraron y prometieron darle dinero. Y Judas buscaba oportunidad para entregarlo. Institución de la Cena del Señor

And when they heard it, they were glad and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.

12 E l primer día de la fiesta de los Panes sin levadura, cuando sacrificaban el cordero de la Pascua, sus discípulos le preguntaron: —¿Dónde quieres que vayamos a preparar para que comas la Pascua?

¶ And the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, when they sacrificed the passover, his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that thou may eat the passover?

13 Y envió a dos de sus discípulos diciéndoles: —Id a la ciudad, y os saldrá al encuentro un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua; seguidlo,

And he sends forth two of his disciples and said unto them, Go into the city, and a man shall meet you bearing a pitcher of water; follow him.

14 y donde entre decid al señor de la casa: “El Maestro dice: ‘¿Dónde está el aposento donde he de comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?’”

And wherever he shall go in, say to the husband of the house, The Master says, Where is the guestchamber where I shall eat the passover with my disciples?

15 E ntonces él os mostrará un gran aposento alto ya dispuesto. Haced allí los preparativos para nosotros.

And he will show you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.

16 F ueron sus discípulos, entraron en la ciudad, hallaron lo que les había dicho y prepararon la Pascua.

And his disciples went forth and came into the city and found as he had said unto them, and they made ready the passover.

17 C uando llegó la noche vino él con los doce.

And in the evening he went with the twelve.

18 Y cuando se sentaron a la mesa, mientras comían, dijo Jesús: —De cierto os digo que uno de vosotros, que come conmigo, me va a entregar.

And when they sat at the table and ate, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you who eats with me shall betray me.

19 E ntonces ellos comenzaron a entristecerse y a decirle uno tras otro: —¿Seré yo? Y el otro: —¿Seré yo?

And they began to be sorrowful and to say unto him one by one, shall it be I? and another said, shall it be I?

20 É l, respondiendo, les dijo: —Es uno de los doce, el que moja conmigo en el plato.

And he, answering, said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dips with me in the dish.

21 A la verdad el Hijo del hombre va, tal como está escrito de él, pero ¡ay de aquel hombre por quien el Hijo del hombre es entregado! Bueno le fuera a ese hombre no haber nacido.

The Son of man indeed goes, as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had never been born.

22 M ientras comían, Jesús tomó pan, lo bendijo, lo partió y les dio, diciendo: —Tomad, esto es mi cuerpo.

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread and, blessing it, broke it and gave to them and said, Take, eat: this is my body.

23 D espués tomó la copa y, habiendo dado gracias, les dio y bebieron de ella todos.

And taking the cup, having given thanks, he gave it to them; and they all drank of it.

24 Y les dijo: —Esto es mi sangre del nuevo pacto que por muchos es derramada.

And he said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

25 D e cierto os digo que no beberé más del fruto de la vid, hasta aquel día en que lo beba nuevo en el reino de Dios. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

Verily I say unto you, I will drink no more of the fruit of the vine until that day that I drink it new in the kingdom of God.

26 D espués de haber cantado el himno, salieron al Monte de los Olivos.

And when they had sung the hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

27 E ntonces Jesús les dijo: —Todos os escandalizaréis de mí esta noche, pues escrito está: “Heriré al pastor y las ovejas serán dispersadas.”

Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be scandalized in me this night; for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered.

28 P ero después que haya resucitado, iré delante de vosotros a Galilea.

But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.

29 E ntonces Pedro le dijo: —Aunque todos se escandalicen, yo no.

Then Peter said unto him, Although all be scandalized, yet I will not.

30 Y le dijo Jesús: —De cierto te digo que tú hoy, en esta noche, antes que el gallo haya cantado dos veces, me negarás tres veces.

And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this day, even in this night, before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times.

31 P ero él con mayor insistencia decía: —Aunque tenga que morir contigo, no te negaré. También todos decían lo mismo. Jesús ora en Getsemaní

But he spoke the more vehemently, If I should die with thee, I will not deny thee in any wise. Likewise also said the others.

32 V inieron, pues, a un lugar que se llama Getsemaní, y dijo a sus discípulos: —Sentaos aquí, entre tanto que yo oro.

¶ And they come to the place which is named Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples, Sit ye here while I pray.

33 S e llevó consigo a Pedro, a Jacobo y a Juan, y comenzó a entristecerse y a angustiarse.

And he takes with him Peter and James and John and began to be alarmed and to be anguished

34 Y les dijo: —Mi alma está muy triste, hasta la muerte; quedaos aquí y velad.

and said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death; tarry ye here, and watch.

35 Y éndose un poco adelante, se postró en tierra, y oró que, si fuera posible, pasara de él aquella hora.

And he went forward a little and fell on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.

36 Y decía: «¡Abba, Padre!, todas las cosas son posibles para ti. Aparta de mí esta copa; pero no se haga lo que yo quiero, sino lo que quieres tú.»

And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me; nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.

37 V ino luego y los halló durmiendo, y dijo a Pedro: —Simón, ¿duermes? ¿No has podido velar una hora?

And he came and found them sleeping and said unto Peter: Simon, sleepest thou? Could thou not watch one hour?

38 V elad y orad para que no entréis en tentación; el espíritu a la verdad está dispuesto, pero la carne es débil.

Watch ye and pray; enter not into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is sick.

39 O tra vez fue y oró, diciendo las mismas palabras.

And again he went away and prayed and spoke the same words.

40 A l volver, otra vez los halló durmiendo, porque los ojos de ellos estaban cargados de sueño; y no sabían qué responderle.

And when he returned, he found them asleep again (for their eyes were heavy), nor did they know what to answer him.

41 V ino la tercera vez, y les dijo: —¡Dormid ya y descansad! ¡Basta, la hora ha llegado! He aquí, el Hijo del hombre es entregado en manos de los pecadores.

And he came the third time and said unto them, Sleep on now and rest; it is enough, the hour is come; behold, the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of the sinners.

42 » ¡Levantaos! ¡Vamos! Ya se acerca el que me entrega. Arresto de Jesús

Rise up, let us go; behold, he that betrays me is at hand.

43 A ún estaba él hablando cuando vino Judas, que era uno de los doce, y con él mucha gente con espadas y palos, de parte de los principales sacerdotes, de los escribas y de los ancianos.

¶ And immediately, while he yet spoke, Judas came, who was one of the twelve, and with him a multitude with swords and staves from the princes of the priests and of the scribes and of the elders.

44 E l que lo entregaba les había dado señal, diciendo: «Al que yo bese, ése es. Prendedlo y llevadlo con seguridad.»

And he that betrayed him had given them a token, saying, Whoever I shall kiss, that same is he; take him and lead him away securely.

45 C uando vino, se acercó luego a él y le dijo: —¡Maestro! ¡Maestro! Y lo besó.

And as soon as he was come, he went straightway to him and said, Master, Master, and kissed him.

46 E ntonces ellos le echaron mano y lo prendieron.

And they laid their hands on him and took him.

47 P ero uno de los que estaban allí, sacando la espada, hirió al siervo del Sumo sacerdote y le cortó la oreja.

And one of them that stood by drew a sword and smote the slave of the high priest and cut off his ear.

48 R espondiendo Jesús, les dijo: —¿Como contra un ladrón habéis salido con espadas y con palos para prenderme?

And Jesus, answering, said unto them, Are ye come out, as against a thief, with swords and with staves to take me?

49 C ada día estaba con vosotros enseñando en el Templo y no me prendisteis; pero así es, para que se cumplan las Escrituras.

I was daily with you in the temple teaching, and ye took me not, but it is this way that the scriptures might be fulfilled.

50 E ntonces todos los discípulos, dejándolo, huyeron. El joven que huyó

And they all forsook him and fled.

51 P ero cierto joven lo seguía, cubierto el cuerpo con una sábana. Lo prendieron,

And there followed him a certain young man having a linen cloth cast about his naked body, and the young men laid hold on him,

52 p ero él, dejando la sábana, huyó desnudo. Jesús ante el Concilio

and he left the linen cloth and fled from them naked.

53 T rajeron, pues, a Jesús ante el sumo sacerdote; y se reunieron todos los principales sacerdotes, los ancianos y los escribas.

¶ And they brought Jesus to the high priest, and with him were assembled all the princes of the priests and the elders and the scribes.

54 P edro lo siguió de lejos hasta dentro del patio del Sumo sacerdote; y estaba sentado con los guardias, calentándose al fuego.

But Peter followed him afar off, even into the palace of the high priest, and he was seated with the servants and warming himself at the fire.

55 L os principales sacerdotes y todo el Concilio buscaban testimonio contra Jesús para entregarlo a la muerte, pero no lo hallaban,

And the princes of the priests and all the council sought for witness against Jesus to put him to death and found none.

56 p orque muchos daban falso testimonio contra él, pero sus testimonios no concordaban.

For many bore false witness against him, but their witness did not agree together.

57 E ntonces, levantándose unos, dieron falso testimonio contra él, diciendo:

And there arose some that bore false witness against him, saying,

58 — Nosotros lo hemos oído decir: “Yo derribaré este templo hecho a mano, y en tres días edificaré otro no hecho a mano.”

We heard him say, I will destroy this temple that is made with hands, and within three days I will build another made without hands.

59 P ero ni aun así concordaban en el testimonio.

But neither so did their witness agree together.

60 E ntonces el sumo sacerdote, levantándose en medio, preguntó a Jesús, diciendo: —¿No respondes nada? ¿Qué testifican estos contra ti?

So the high priest, standing up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee?

61 P ero él callaba y nada respondía. El Sumo sacerdote le volvió a preguntar: —¿Eres tú el Cristo, el Hijo del Bendito?

But he was silent and answered nothing. Again the high priest asked him and said unto him, Art thou the Christ, the Son of the Blessed?

62 J esús le dijo: —Yo soy. Y veréis al Hijo del hombre sentado a la diestra del poder de Dios y viniendo en las nubes del cielo.

And Jesus said unto him, I AM, and ye shall see the Son of man sitting at the right hand of the power of God and coming in the clouds of the heaven.

63 E ntonces el Sumo sacerdote, rasgando su vestidura, dijo: —¿Qué más necesidad tenemos de testigos?

Then the high priest rent his clothes and said, What need have we any more for witnesses?

64 H abéis oído la blasfemia; ¿qué os parece? Y todos ellos lo condenaron, declarándolo digno de muerte.

Ye have heard the blasphemy: what think ye? And they all condemned him to be guilty of death.

65 E ntonces algunos comenzaron a escupirlo, a cubrirle el rostro, a darle puñetazos y a decirle: «¡Profetiza!» También los guardias le daban bofetadas. Pedro niega a Jesús

And some began to spit on him and to cover his face and to buffet him and to say unto him, Prophesy. And the servants struck him with the palms of their hands.

66 E stando Pedro abajo, en el patio, vino una de las criadas del Sumo sacerdote,

¶ And as Peter was beneath in the palace, there came one of the maids of the high priest;

67 y cuando vio a Pedro que se calentaba, mirándolo, le dijo: —Tú también estabas con Jesús, el nazareno.

and when she saw Peter warming himself, looking upon him, said, And thou also wast with Jesus of Nazareth.

68 P ero él negó, diciendo: —No lo conozco, ni sé lo que dices. Y salió a la entrada, y cantó el gallo.

But he denied, saying, I know him not, neither understand I what thou sayest. And he went out into the porch; and the cock crew.

69 L a criada, viéndolo otra vez, comenzó a decir a los que estaban allí: —Éste es uno de ellos.

And the maid seeing him again began to say to those that stood by, This is one of them.

70 P ero él volvió a negarlo. Poco después, los que estaban allí dijeron otra vez a Pedro: —Verdaderamente tú eres de ellos, porque eres galileo y tu manera de hablar es semejante a la de ellos.

But he denied it again. And a little after, those that stood by said again to Peter, Surely thou art one of them, for thou art a Galilaean, and thy speech agrees unto it.

71 E ntonces él comenzó a maldecir y a jurar: —¡No conozco a este hombre de quien habláis!

And he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know this man of whom ye speak.

72 Y el gallo cantó la segunda vez. Entonces Pedro se acordó de las palabras que Jesús le había dicho: «Antes que el gallo cante dos veces, me negarás tres veces.» Y pensando en esto, lloraba.

And the second time the cock crew. And Peter called to mind the words that Jesus had said unto him, Before the cock crows twice, thou shalt deny me three times. And thinking on this, he wept.
