1 A conteció en el cuarto año de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, que vino esta palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

¶ And it came to pass in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 « Toma un rollo en blanco y escribe en él todas las palabras que te he hablado contra Israel, contra Judá y contra todas las naciones, desde el día en que comencé a hablarte, desde los días de Josías hasta hoy.

Take thee a roll of a book and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the Gentiles, from the day I began to speak unto thee, from the days of Josiah, unto today.

3 Q uizá oiga la casa de Judá todo el mal que yo pienso hacerles para que se arrepienta cada uno de su mal camino. Entonces yo perdonaré su maldad y su pecado.»

If peradventure the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may turn each one from his evil way; and I will forgive their iniquity and their sin.

4 L lamó Jeremías a Baruc hijo de Nerías, y escribió Baruc en un rollo en blanco, dictadas por Jeremías, todas las palabras que Jehová le había hablado.

Then Jeremiah called Baruch the son of Neriah, and Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the LORD, which he had spoken unto him, upon a roll of a book.

5 D espués mandó Jeremías a Baruc, diciendo: «A mí se me ha prohibido entrar en la casa de Jehová.

And Jeremiah commanded Baruch, saying, I am shut up; I cannot go into the house of the LORD:

6 E ntra tú, pues, y de este rollo que escribiste dictado por mí, lee las palabras de Jehová a los oídos del pueblo en la casa de Jehová, el día del ayuno. Y las leerás también a oídos de todos los de Judá que vienen de sus ciudades.

therefore go thou, and read from the roll, which thou hast written from my mouth, the words of the LORD in the ears of the people in the LORD’s house upon the day of fasting: and also in the ears of all Judah that come out of their cities. Thou shalt read them

7 Q uizá llegue la oración de ellos a la presencia de Jehová, y se vuelva cada uno de su mal camino; porque grande es el furor y la ira que ha expresado Jehová contra este pueblo.»

if peradventure their prayer will fall into the presence of the LORD, and they shall turn each one from his evil way; for great is the anger and the fury that the LORD has pronounced against this people.

8 Y Baruc hijo de Nerías hizo conforme a todas las cosas que le mandó el profeta Jeremías, leyendo del libro las palabras de Jehová en la casa de Jehová.

And Baruch the son of Neriah did according to all that Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of the LORD in the LORD’s house.

9 A conteció en el año quinto de Joacim hijo de Josías, rey de Judá, en el mes noveno, que en la presencia de Jehová promulgaron ayuno a todo el pueblo de Jerusalén y a todo el pueblo que venía de las ciudades de Judá a Jerusalén.

¶ And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, in the ninth month, that they proclaimed a fast before the LORD to all the people of Jerusalem and to all the people that came from the cities of Judah unto Jerusalem.

10 Y Baruc leyó del libro las palabras de Jeremías en la casa de Jehová, en el aposento de Gemarías hijo de Safán, escriba, en el atrio de arriba, a la entrada de la puerta nueva de la casa de Jehová, a oídos del pueblo.

Then Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’s house, in the ears of all the people.

11 M icaías hijo de Gemarías hijo de Safán, habiendo oído del libro todas las palabras de Jehová,

When Michaiah the son of Gemariah, the son of Shaphan, had heard out of the book all the words of the LORD,

12 d escendió a la casa del rey, al aposento del secretario, y encontró que todos los jefes estaban allí sentados: Elisama, el secretario, Delaía hijo de Semaías, Elnatán hijo de Acbor, Gemarías hijo de Safán, Sedequías hijo de Ananías, y todos los demás jefes.

then he went down into the king’s house, into the scribe’s chamber; and, behold, all the princes sat there, even Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah the son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan the son of Achbor, and Gemariah the son of Shaphan, and Zedekiah the son of Hananiah, and all the princes.

13 Y les contó Micaías todas las palabras que había oído cuando Baruc leyó del libro a oídos del pueblo.

Then Michaiah declared unto them all the words that he had heard when Baruch read the book in the ears of the people.

14 E ntonces enviaron todos los jefes a Jehudí hijo de Netanías hijo de Selemías, hijo de Cusi, a decirle a Baruc: «Toma el rollo en el que leíste a oídos del pueblo, y ven.» Y Baruc hijo de Nerías tomó el rollo en su mano y fue a ellos.

Therefore all the princes sent Jehudi the son of Nethaniah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Cushi, unto Baruch, saying, Take in thine hand the roll wherein thou hast read in the ears of the people and come. So Baruch the son of Neriah took the roll in his hand and came unto them.

15 L e dijeron: «Siéntate ahora y léenoslo a nosotros.» Y Baruc se lo leyó.

And they said unto him, Sit down now and read it in our ears. So Baruch read it in their ears.

16 C uando oyeron todas aquellas palabras, cada uno se volvió espantado a su compañero, y dijeron a Baruc: «¡Sin duda, le contaremos al rey todas estas palabras!»

Now it came to pass when they had heard all the words, each one turned to his companion in fear, and they said unto Baruch, We will surely tell the king of all these words.

17 P reguntaron luego a Baruc, diciendo: —Cuéntanos ahora cómo escribiste de boca de Jeremías todas estas palabras.

And they asked Baruch, saying, Tell us now, How didst thou write all these words at his mouth?

18 B aruc les dijo: —Él me dictaba en voz alta todas estas palabras y yo las escribía con tinta en el libro.

Then Baruch answered them, He pronounced all these words unto me with his mouth, and I wrote them with ink in the book.

19 E ntonces dijeron los príncipes a Baruc: —Vete, y escondeos tú y Jeremías, y que nadie sepa dónde estáis.

Then the princes said unto Baruch, Go, hide thee, thou and Jeremiah; and let no man know where ye be.

20 E ntraron luego a donde estaba el rey, al atrio, habiendo depositado el rollo en el aposento de Elisama, el secretario; y contaron a oídos del rey todas estas palabras.

¶ And they went in to the king into the court, but they laid up the roll in the chamber of Elishama the scribe and told all the words in the ears of the king.

21 E nvió el rey a Jehudí a que tomara el rollo, y él lo tomó del aposento de Elisama, el secretario. Y leyó Jehudí del rollo a oídos del rey y a oídos de todos los jefes que se hallaban junto al rey.

So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read in it in the ears of the king and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king.

22 E staba entonces el rey en la casa de invierno, en el mes noveno, y había un brasero encendido delante de él.

Now the king sat in the winterhouse in the ninth month, and there was a fire on the hearth burning before him.

23 Y cuando Jehudí había leído tres o cuatro planas, el rey las rasgaba con un cortaplumas de escriba y las arrojaba al fuego que había en el brasero. Así hasta que todo el rollo se consumió en el fuego del brasero.

And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.

24 N o tuvieron temor ni rasgaron sus vestidos, ni el rey ni ninguno de sus siervos que oyeron todas estas palabras.

Yet they were not afraid, nor rent their garments, neither the king, nor any of his slaves that heard all these words.

25 Y aunque Elnatán, Delaía y Gemarías rogaron al rey que no quemara aquel rollo, no los quiso escuchar.

Nevertheless when Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah made intercession to the king that he not burn the roll; he would not hear them.

26 T ambién mandó el rey a Jerameel hijo de Hamelec, a Seraías hijo de Azriel y a Selemías hijo de Abdeel, que apresaran a Baruc, el escriba, y al profeta Jeremías. Pero Jehová los escondió.

But the king commanded Jerahmeel the son of Hammelech, and Seraiah the son of Azriel, and Shelemiah the son of Abdeel, to take Baruch the scribe and Jeremiah the prophet; but the LORD hid them.

27 D espués que el rey quemó el rollo que contenía las palabras escritas por Baruc al dictado de Jeremías, vino palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo:

Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after the king burned the roll, the words which Baruch had written at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying:

28 « Vuelve a tomar otro rollo y escribe en él todas las palabras primeras que estaban en el primer rollo que quemó Joacim, rey de Judá.

Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah has burned.

29 Y dirás a Joacim, rey de Judá: “Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú quemaste este rollo, diciendo: ‘¿Por qué escribiste en él que de cierto vendrá el rey de Babilonia, y que destruirá esta tierra y hará que no queden en ella ni hombres ni animales?’

And thou shalt say to Jehoiakim king of Judah, Thus hath the LORD said: Thou hast burned this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come and destroy this land and shall cause to cease from there man and beast?

30 P or tanto, esto ha dicho Jehová acerca de Joacim, rey de Judá: No tendrá quien se siente sobre el trono de David, y su cuerpo será echado al calor del día y al hielo de la noche.

Therefore thus hath the LORD said unto Jehoiakim king of Judah: He shall have no one to sit upon the throne of David; and his body shall be cast out in the day to the heat and in the night to the frost.

31 C astigaré su maldad en él, en su descendencia y en sus siervos. Traeré sobre ellos, sobre los habitantes de Jerusalén y sobre los hombres de Judá, todo el mal que les he anunciado y que no quisieron escuchar.”»

And I will visit upon him and upon his seed and upon his slaves, their iniquity; and I will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and upon the men of Judah all the evil that I have pronounced against them; but they did not hearken.

32 T omó, pues, Jeremías otro rollo y lo dio a Baruc hijo de Nerías, escriba; y escribió en él, dictadas por Jeremías, todas las palabras del libro que quemó en el fuego Joacim, rey de Judá. Y aun fueron añadidas sobre ellas muchas otras palabras semejantes.

Then Jeremiah took another roll and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah, who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire, and there were added besides upon them many like words.
