1 E ntonces Josué llamó a los rubenitas, a los gaditas y a la media tribu de Manasés,

¶ Then Joshua called the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh

2 y les dijo: «Vosotros habéis guardado todo lo que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os mandó, y habéis obedecido a mi voz en todo lo que os he mandado.

and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the slave of the LORD commanded you and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.

3 N o habéis abandonado a vuestros hermanos en este largo tiempo, hasta el día de hoy, sino que os habéis cuidado de guardar los mandamientos de Jehová, vuestro Dios.

Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.

4 A hora, pues, que Jehová, vuestro Dios, ha dado reposo a vuestros hermanos como lo había prometido, volved, regresad a vuestras tiendas, a la tierra de las posesiones que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os dio al otro lado del Jordán.

And now the LORD your God has given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them; therefore now return and go to your tents and unto the land of your possessions which Moses the slave of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

5 S olamente que con diligencia cuidéis de cumplir el mandamiento y la ley que Moisés, siervo de Jehová, os ordenó: que améis a Jehová, vuestro Dios, y andéis en todos sus caminos; que guardéis sus mandamientos, lo sigáis y lo sirváis con todo vuestro corazón y con toda vuestra alma.»

Only that with diligence ye keep yourselves doing the commandment and the law, which Moses, the slave of the LORD, charged you: to love the LORD your God and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cleave unto him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

6 J osué los bendijo y los despidió, y ellos se fueron a sus tiendas.

So Joshua, blessing them, sent them; and they went unto their tents.

7 A la media tribu de Manasés le había dado Moisés una posesión en Basán; a la otra mitad le dio Josué una heredad entre sus hermanos a este lado del Jordán, al occidente. También a estos los envió Josué a sus tiendas, después de haberlos bendecido,

Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given possession in Bashan; but unto the other half Joshua gave inheritance among their brethren on this side of the Jordan to the west. And Joshua also sent these to their tents, after having blessed them,

8 y les dijo: «Volved a vuestras tiendas con grandes riquezas, con mucho ganado, con plata, oro y bronce, y con muchos vestidos; compartid con vuestros hermanos el botín de vuestros enemigos.»

And he spoke unto them, saying, Return with great riches unto your tents and with a great amount of cattle with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

9 A sí los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés se volvieron, separándose de los hijos de Israel en Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán, para ir a la tierra de Galaad, a la tierra de sus posesiones, en la cual se habían establecido conforme al mandato que Jehová había dado por conducto de Moisés.

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, departing from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, of which they were the possessors, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

10 C uando llegaron a los límites del Jordán que está en la tierra de Canaán, los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés edificaron allí un altar junto al Jordán, un altar de apariencia grandiosa.

¶ And when they came unto the borders of the Jordan, which is in the land of Canaan, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar there next to the Jordan, a great altar to look upon.

11 L os hijos de Israel se enteraron de que los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés habían edificado un altar frente a la tierra de Canaán, en los límites del Jordán, del lado de los hijos de Israel.

And the sons of Israel heard it said, Behold, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of the Jordan, at the passage of the sons of Israel.

12 C uando los hijos de Israel oyeron esto, se juntó toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel en Silo, para subir a pelear contra ellos.

And when the sons of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.

13 P ero antes enviaron los hijos de Israel a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés, a la tierra de Galaad, a Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar,

And the sons of Israel sent unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest,

14 y a diez príncipes con él: un príncipe por cada casa paterna de todas las tribus de Israel, cada uno de los cuales era jefe de la casa de sus padres entre los millares de Israel.

and with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was the head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.

15 C uando llegaron donde estaban los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés, en la tierra de Galaad, les dijeron:

And they came unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half tribe of Manasseh unto the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,

16 — Toda la congregación de Jehová dice así: “¿Qué traición es ésta que cometéis contra el Dios de Israel, al apartaros hoy de seguir a Jehová, edificándoos un altar y rebelándoos contra Jehová?

Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD in that ye have built an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?

17 ¿ No ha bastado con la maldad de Peor, de la que aún hoy no estamos limpios, por la cual vino la mortandad sobre la congregación de Jehová,

Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, for which there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD?

18 p ara que vosotros os apartéis hoy de seguir a Jehová? Vosotros os rebeláis hoy contra Jehová, y mañana se encenderá su ira contra toda la congregación de Israel.

And ye turn away this day from following the LORD; and it will be, seeing ye rebel today against the LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

19 S i os parece que la tierra que os pertenece es inmunda, pasaos a la tierra que pertenece a Jehová, en la cual está el tabernáculo de Jehová, y habitad entre nosotros, pero no os rebeléis contra Jehová, ni os rebeléis contra nosotros, edificándoos un altar además del altar de Jehová, nuestro Dios.

If the land of your possession seems unto you to be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, in which the LORD’s tabernacle dwells and take possession among us; but do not rebel against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building yourselves an altar in addition to the altar of the LORD our God.

20 ¿ No cometió Acán hijo de Zera una transgresión en el anatema, y la ira cayó sobre toda la congregación de Israel? Aquel hombre no fue el único que pereció por su pecado.”

Peradventure did Achan, the son of Zerah, not commit a trespass in the anathema, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.

21 E ntonces los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y la media tribu de Manasés respondieron a los cabezas de los millares de Israel:

¶ Then the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,

22 — Jehová, Dios de los dioses, Jehová, Dios de los dioses, él sabe y hace saber a Israel: si fue por rebelión o por infidelidad contra Jehová, no nos salves hoy.

The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knows and let Israel also know; if it is in rebellion, or if in transgression against the LORD (save us not this day)

23 S i nos hemos edificado altar para apartarnos de Jehová, o para presentar holocaustos u ofrendas, o para hacer sobre él ofrendas de paz, el mismo Jehová nos lo demande.

that we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD or if to offer thereon burnt offering or present or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the LORD himself require it;

24 L o hicimos más bien por temor de que mañana vuestros hijos digan a nuestros hijos: “¿Qué tenéis vosotros que ver con Jehová, el Dios de Israel?

likewise, if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, Peradventure tomorrow your children shall speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?

25 J ehová ha puesto por lindero el Jordán entre nosotros y vosotros, hijos de Rubén e hijos de Gad. ¡No tenéis vosotros parte con Jehová!” Y así vuestros hijos harían que nuestros hijos dejaran de temer a Jehová.

The LORD has put the Jordan for a border between us and you, O sons of Reuben and sons of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD, so shall your sons make our sons cease from fearing the LORD.

26 P or esto nos dijimos: “Edifiquemos ahora un altar, no para holocaustos ni para sacrificios,

Therefore we said, Let us now work to build us an altar, not for burnt offering nor for sacrifice,

27 s ino para que sea un testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros y entre los que vendrán después de nosotros, de que podemos hacer el servicio de Jehová delante de él con nuestros holocaustos, nuestros sacrificios y nuestras ofrendas de paz; para que no digan mañana vuestros hijos a los nuestros: ‘Vosotros no tenéis parte con Jehová.’”

but that it may be a witness between us and you and our generations after us, to do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.

28 N osotros, pues, nos dijimos: “Si acontece que en lo por venir nos dicen tal cosa a nosotros o a nuestros descendientes, entonces responderemos: ‘Mirad la forma del altar de Jehová, el cual construyeron nuestros padres, no para holocaustos o sacrificios, sino como un testimonio entre nosotros y vosotros.’”

Therefore we said, that it shall be, if they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may reply, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings nor for sacrifices, but it is a witness between us and you.

29 N unca acontezca que nos rebelemos contra Jehová o que nos apartemos hoy de seguir a Jehová edificando un altar para holocaustos, ofrendas o sacrificios, aparte del altar de Jehová, nuestro Dios, que está delante de su Tabernáculo.

Let it never happen that we should rebel against the LORD or that we should turn today from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for presents, or for sacrifices, in addition to the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.

30 C uando Finees, el sacerdote, los príncipes de la congregación y los jefes de los millares de Israel que con él estaban, oyeron las palabras pronunciadas por los hijos de Rubén, los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Manasés, les pareció bien todo ello.

¶ And when Phinehas the priest and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the sons of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them.

31 Y dijo Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, a los hijos de Rubén, a los hijos de Gad y a los hijos de Manasés: —Hoy hemos entendido que Jehová está entre nosotros, pues no habéis intentado esta traición contra Jehová. Así habéis librado a los hijos de Israel de la mano de Jehová.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us because ye have not intended to trespass against the LORD. Now ye have delivered the sons of Israel from the wrath of the LORD.

32 L uego Finees, hijo del sacerdote Eleazar, y los príncipes, dejando a los hijos de Rubén y a los hijos de Gad, regresaron de la tierra de Galaad a la tierra de Canaán, a los hijos de Israel, y les dieron la respuesta.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the sons of Reuben and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the sons of Israel and brought them word again.

33 E l asunto pareció bien a los hijos de Israel y bendijeron a su Dios. No hablaron más de hacerles la guerra y destruir la tierra en que habitaban los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad.

And the thing pleased the sons of Israel; and the sons of Israel blessed God and did not speak again of going up against them in battle to destroy the land in which the sons of Reuben and Gad dwelt.

34 L os hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad pusieron al altar el nombre de Ed, porque dijeron: «Testimonio es entre nosotros de que Jehová es Dios.»

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad called the altar Ed; for it is a witness between us that the LORD is God.
