1 J osué convocou as tribos de Rúben, de Gade e a metade da tribo de Manassés

¶ Then Joshua called the Reubenites and the Gadites and the half tribe of Manasseh

2 e lhes disse: “Vocês fizeram tudo o que Moisés, servo do Senhor, ordenou.

and said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the slave of the LORD commanded you and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you.

3 D urante muito tempo, e até hoje, vocês não abandonaram os seus irmãos, mas cumpriram a missão que o Senhor, o seu Deus, lhes entregou.

Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.

4 A gora que o Senhor, o seu Deus, já concedeu descanso aos seus irmãos israelitas, como tinha prometido, voltem para casa, para a terra que Moisés, servo do Senhor, lhes deu no outro lado do Jordão.

And now the LORD your God has given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them; therefore now return and go to your tents and unto the land of your possessions which Moses the slave of the LORD gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

5 M as guardem fielmente o mandamento e a lei que Moisés, servo do Senhor, lhes deu, que amem o Senhor, o seu Deus, andem em todos os seus caminhos, obedeçam aos seus mandamentos, apeguem-se a ele e o sirvam de todo o coração e de toda a alma”.

Only that with diligence ye keep yourselves doing the commandment and the law, which Moses, the slave of the LORD, charged you: to love the LORD your God and to walk in all his ways and to keep his commandments and to cleave unto him and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

6 E ntão Josué os abençoou e os despediu, e eles foram para casa.

So Joshua, blessing them, sent them; and they went unto their tents.

7 ( À metade da tribo de Manassés Moisés dera terras em Basã, e à outra metade da tribo Josué dera terras no lado oeste do Jordão, junto com os outros israelitas.) Ao mandá-los para casa, Josué os abençoou,

Now to the one half of the tribe of Manasseh, Moses had given possession in Bashan; but unto the other half Joshua gave inheritance among their brethren on this side of the Jordan to the west. And Joshua also sent these to their tents, after having blessed them,

8 d izendo: “Voltem para casa com as riquezas que juntaram: grandes rebanhos, prata, ouro, bronze e ferro, e muitas roupas. Dividam com os seus irmãos os despojos de seus inimigos”.

And he spoke unto them, saying, Return with great riches unto your tents and with a great amount of cattle with silver, with gold, with brass, with iron, and with very much clothing; divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

9 A ssim as tribos de Rúben, de Gade e a metade da tribo de Manassés deixaram os outros israelitas em Siló, na terra de Canaã, para voltarem para Gileade, sua própria terra, da qual se apossaram de acordo com a ordem do Senhor, dada por meio de Moisés.

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, departing from the sons of Israel out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, of which they were the possessors, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

10 Q uando chegaram a Gelilote, perto do Jordão, em Canaã, as tribos de Rúben, de Gade e a metade da tribo de Manassés construíram um imponente altar ali, junto ao Jordão.

¶ And when they came unto the borders of the Jordan, which is in the land of Canaan, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built an altar there next to the Jordan, a great altar to look upon.

11 Q uando os outros israelitas souberam que eles tinham construído o altar na fronteira de Canaã, em Gelilote, perto do Jordão, no lado israelita,

And the sons of Israel heard it said, Behold, the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of the Jordan, at the passage of the sons of Israel.

12 t oda a comunidade de Israel reuniu-se em Siló para guerrear contra eles.

And when the sons of Israel heard of it, the whole congregation of the sons of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.

13 E ntão os israelitas enviaram Finéias, filho do sacerdote Eleazar, à terra de Gileade, às tribos de Rúben e Gade e à metade da tribo de Manassés.

And the sons of Israel sent unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half tribe of Manasseh into the land of Gilead, Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest,

14 C om ele enviaram dez líderes, um de cada tribo de Israel, sendo cada um deles chefe de suas respectivas famílias dentre os clãs israelitas.

and with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one was the head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.

15 Q uando chegaram a Gileade, às tribos de Rúben e de Gade e à metade da tribo de Manassés, disseram-lhes:

And they came unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the half tribe of Manasseh unto the land of Gilead, and they spoke with them, saying,

16 “ Assim diz toda a comunidade do Senhor: ‘Como foi que vocês cometeram essa infidelidade para com o Deus de Israel? Como foi que se afastaram do Senhor, construindo um altar para vocês, rebelando-se assim contra ele?

Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespass is this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD in that ye have built an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?

17 J á não nos bastou o pecado de Peor? Até hoje não nos purificamos daquele pecado, muito embora uma praga tenha caído sobre a comunidade do Senhor!

Is the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, for which there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD?

18 E agora vocês estão abandonando o Senhor! “‘Se hoje vocês se rebelarem contra o Senhor, amanhã a sua ira cairá sobre toda a comunidade de Israel.

And ye turn away this day from following the LORD; and it will be, seeing ye rebel today against the LORD, that tomorrow he will be angry with the whole congregation of Israel.

19 S e a terra que vocês receberam como propriedade está contaminada, passem então para a terra que pertence ao Senhor, onde está o tabernáculo do Senhor, e se apossem de um território entre nós. Mas não se rebelem contra o Senhor nem contra nós, construindo para vocês um altar que não seja o altar do Senhor, o nosso Deus.

If the land of your possession seems unto you to be unclean, then pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, in which the LORD’s tabernacle dwells and take possession among us; but do not rebel against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building yourselves an altar in addition to the altar of the LORD our God.

20 Q uando Acã, filho de Zerá, foi infiel com relação às coisas consagradas, não caiu a ira sobre toda a comunidade de Israel? E ele não foi o único que morreu por causa do seu pecado’ ”.

Peradventure did Achan, the son of Zerah, not commit a trespass in the anathema, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? And that man did not perish alone in his iniquity.

21 E ntão as tribos de Rúben, de Gade e a metade da tribo de Manassés responderam aos chefes dos clãs de Israel:

¶ Then the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,

22 “ O Poderoso, Deus, o Senhor! O Poderoso, Deus, o Senhor! Ele sabe! E que Israel o saiba! Se agimos com rebelião ou infidelidade para com o Senhor, não nos poupem hoje.

The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knows and let Israel also know; if it is in rebellion, or if in transgression against the LORD (save us not this day)

23 S e construímos nosso próprio altar para nos afastarmos do Senhor e para oferecermos holocaustos e ofertas de cereal, ou sacrifícios de comunhão sobre ele, que o próprio Senhor nos peça contas disso!

that we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD or if to offer thereon burnt offering or present or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the LORD himself require it;

24 “ Ao contrário! Fizemos isso temendo que no futuro os seus descendentes digam aos nossos: ‘Que relação vocês têm com o Senhor, com o Deus de Israel?

likewise, if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, saying, Peradventure tomorrow your children shall speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?

25 H omens de Rúben e de Gade! O Senhor fez do Jordão uma fronteira entre nós e vocês. Vocês não têm parte com o Senhor ’. Assim os seus descendentes poderiam levar os nossos a deixarem de temer o Senhor.

The LORD has put the Jordan for a border between us and you, O sons of Reuben and sons of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD, so shall your sons make our sons cease from fearing the LORD.

26 “ É por isso que resolvemos construir um altar, não para holocaustos ou sacrifícios,

Therefore we said, Let us now work to build us an altar, not for burnt offering nor for sacrifice,

27 m as, para que esse altar sirva de testemunho entre nós e vocês e as gerações futuras, de que cultuaremos o Senhor em seu santuário com nossos holocaustos, sacrifícios e ofertas de comunhão. Então, no futuro, os seus descendentes não poderão dizer aos nossos: ‘Vocês não têm parte com o Senhor ’.

but that it may be a witness between us and you and our generations after us, to do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings and with our sacrifices and with our peace offerings that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.

28 “ E dissemos: Se algum dia disserem isso a nós ou aos nossos descendentes, responderemos: Vejam a réplica do altar do Senhor que os nossos antepassados construíram, não para holocaustos ou sacrifícios, mas como testemunho entre nós e vocês.

Therefore we said, that it shall be, if they should so say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may reply, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings nor for sacrifices, but it is a witness between us and you.

29 “ Longe de nós nos rebelarmos contra o Senhor e nos afastarmos dele, construindo para holocaustos, ofertas de cereal e sacrifícios um altar que não seja o altar do Senhor, o nosso Deus, que está diante do seu tabernáculo!”

Let it never happen that we should rebel against the LORD or that we should turn today from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for presents, or for sacrifices, in addition to the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.

30 Q uando o sacerdote Finéias e os líderes da comunidade, os chefes dos clãs dos israelitas, ouviram o que os homens de Rúben, de Gade e de Manassés disseram, deram-se por satisfeitos.

¶ And when Phinehas the priest and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel who were with him, heard the words that the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad and the sons of Manasseh spoke, it pleased them.

31 E Finéias, filho do sacerdote Eleazar, disse a Rúben, a Gade e a Manassés: “Hoje sabemos que o Senhor está conosco, pois vocês não foram infiéis para com o Senhor. Assim vocês livraram os israelitas da mão do Senhor ”.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, said unto the sons of Reuben and to the sons of Gad and to the sons of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us because ye have not intended to trespass against the LORD. Now ye have delivered the sons of Israel from the wrath of the LORD.

32 E ntão Finéias, filho do sacerdote Eleazar, e os líderes voltaram do encontro com os homens de Rúben e de Gade em Gileade, e foram para Canaã dar relatório aos outros israelitas.

And Phinehas, the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the sons of Reuben and from the sons of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the sons of Israel and brought them word again.

33 E stes se alegraram com o relatório e louvaram a Deus. E não mais falaram em guerrear contra as tribos de Rúben e de Gade, nem em devastar a região onde eles viviam.

And the thing pleased the sons of Israel; and the sons of Israel blessed God and did not speak again of going up against them in battle to destroy the land in which the sons of Reuben and Gad dwelt.

34 O s homens de Rúben e de Gade deram ao altar este nome: Um Testemunho Entre Nós de que o Senhor é Deus.

And the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad called the altar Ed; for it is a witness between us that the LORD is God.
