1 Q uando Jabim, rei de Hazor, soube disso, enviou mensagem a Jobabe, rei de Madom, aos reis de Sinrom e Acsafe,

¶ Hearing of this, Jabin, king of Hazor, sent a message unto Jobab, king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron and to the king of Achshaph

2 e aos reis do norte que viviam nas montanhas, na Arabá ao sul de Quinerete, na Sefelá e em Nafote-Dora, a oeste;

and to the kings that were on the north of the mountains and in the plain southward of Chinneroth and in the valley and in the borders of Dor to the west

3 a os cananeus a leste e a oeste; aos amorreus, aos hititas, aos ferezeus e aos jebuseus das montanhas; e aos heveus do sopé do Hermom, na região de Mispá.

and to the Canaanite on the east and on the west and to the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Jebusite in the mountains and to the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpeh.

4 S aíram com todas as suas tropas, um exército imenso, tão numeroso como a areia da praia, além de um grande número de cavalos e carros.

And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, many people even as the sand that is upon the sea shore in multitude, with a great multitude of horses and chariots.

5 T odos esses reis se uniram e acamparam junto às águas de Merom, para lutar contra Israel.

All these kings united, and as they came they gathered together the camps near the waters of Merom to fight against Israel.

6 E o Senhor disse a Josué: “Não tenha medo deles, porque amanhã a esta hora os entregarei todos mortos a Israel. A você cabe cortar os tendões dos cavalos deles e queimar os seus carros”.

But the LORD said unto Joshua, Do not be afraid because of them, for tomorrow at this hour I will deliver them up all slain before Israel; thou shalt hamstring their horses and burn their chariots with fire.

7 J osué e todo o seu exército os surpreenderam junto às águas de Merom e os atacaram,

So Joshua came against them with all the people of war and fell upon them suddenly by the waters of Merom.

8 e o Senhor os entregou nas mãos de Israel, que os derrotou e os perseguiu até Sidom, a grande, até Misrefote-Maim e até o vale de Mispá, a leste. Eles os mataram sem deixar sobrevivente algum.

And the LORD delivered them into the hand of Israel, who smote them and chased them unto great Zidon and unto the hot springs and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them no one remaining.

9 J osué os tratou como o Senhor lhe tinha ordenado. Cortou os tendões dos seus cavalos e queimou os seus carros.

And Joshua did unto them as the LORD had commanded him; he hamstrung their horses and burnt their chariots with fire.

10 N a mesma ocasião Josué voltou, conquistou Hazor e matou o seu rei à espada. (Hazor tinha sido a capital de todos esses reinos.)

¶ And Joshua at that time returned and took Hazor and smote the king thereof with the sword because Hazor had been the head of all those kingdoms before.

11 M atou à espada todos os que nela estavam. Exterminou-os totalmente, sem poupar nada que respirasse, e incendiou Hazor.

And they smote all the souls that were in it with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was not any left to breathe; and he burnt Hazor with fire.

12 J osué conquistou todas essas cidades e matou à espada os reis que as governavam. Destruiu-as totalmente, como Moisés, servo do Senhor, tinha ordenado.

Likewise, Joshua took all the cities of those kings and all their kings and smote them with the edge of the sword, and he utterly destroyed them as Moses the slave of the LORD had commanded him.

13 C ontudo, Israel não incendiou nenhuma das cidades construídas nas colinas, com exceção de Hazor, que Josué incendiou.

But of all the cities that stood on their hills, Israel burned none of them, excepting Hazor only, which Joshua burned.

14 O s israelitas tomaram posse de todos os despojos e dos animais dessas cidades, mas mataram todo o povo à espada, até exterminá-lo completamente, sem poupar ninguém.

And all the spoil of these cities and the beasts, the sons of Israel took for themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword until they had destroyed them, without leaving any that breathed.

15 T udo o que o Senhor tinha ordenado a seu servo Moisés, Moisés ordenou a Josué, e Josué obedeceu, sem deixar de cumprir nada de tudo o que o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés.

¶ As the LORD had commanded Moses his slave, so did Moses command Joshua, and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that the LORD had commanded Moses.

16 A ssim Josué conquistou toda aquela terra: a serra central, todo o Neguebe, toda a região de Gósen, a Sefelá, a Arabá e os montes de Israel e suas planícies,

So Joshua took all that land, the mountains and all the region of the Negev and all the land of Goshen and the valleys and the plains and the mountain of Israel and its valleys.

17 d esde o monte Halaque, que se ergue na direção de Seir, até Baal-Gade, no vale do Líbano, no sopé do monte Hermom. Ele capturou todos os seus reis e os matou.

Even from Mount Halak that goes up unto Seir unto Baalgad in the plains of Lebanon at the roots of Mount Hermon; likewise he took all their kings and smote them and slew them.

18 J osué guerreou contra todos esses reis por muito tempo.

Joshua made war many days with all those kings.

19 C om exceção dos heveus que viviam em Gibeom, nenhuma cidade fez a paz com os israelitas, que a todas conquistou em combate.

There was not a city that made peace with the sons of Israel except the Hivites, the inhabitants of Gibeon; they took all the others in battle.

20 P ois foi o próprio Senhor que lhes endureceu o coração para guerrearem contra Israel, para que ele os destruísse totalmente, exterminando-os sem misericórdia, como o Senhor tinha ordenado a Moisés.

For it was of the LORD to harden their hearts that they should come against Israel in battle, that he might destroy them utterly and that they might have no mercy, but that he might destroy them, as the LORD had commanded Moses.

21 N aquela ocasião Josué exterminou os enaquins dos montes de Hebrom, de Debir e de Anabe, de todos os montes de Judá, e de Israel. Josué destruiu-os totalmente, e também as suas cidades.

Also at the same time Joshua came and cut off the Anakims from the mountains, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the mountains of Judah, and from all the mountains of Israel; Joshua destroyed them utterly with their cities.

22 N enhum enaquim foi deixado vivo no território israelita; somente em Gaza, em Gate e em Asdode é que alguns sobreviveram.

There were none of the Anakims left in the land of the sons of Israel; only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, there remained.

23 F oi assim que Josué conquistou toda a terra, conforme o Senhor tinha dito a Moisés, e deu-a por herança a Israel, repartindo-a entre as suas tribos. E a terra teve descanso da guerra.

So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that the LORD had said unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land rested from war.
