1 N o vigésimo primeiro dia do sétimo mês, veio a palavra do Senhor por meio do profeta Ageu:

¶ In the seventh month, in the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the hand of the prophet Haggai, saying,

2 “ Pergunte o seguinte ao governador de Judá, Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel, ao sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque, e ao restante do povo:

Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

3 Q uem de vocês viu este templo em seu primeiro esplendor? Comparado a ele, não é como nada o que vocês vêem agora?

Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see her now? Is she not as nothing before your eyes?

4 “ Coragem, Zorobabel”, declara o Senhor. “Coragem, sumo sacerdote Josué, filho de Jeozadaque. Coragem! Ao trabalho, ó povo da terra!”, declara o Senhor. “Porque eu estou com vocês”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, said the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of this land, said the LORD, and work; for I am with you, said the LORD of the hosts:

5 “ Esta é a aliança que fiz com vocês quando vocês saíram do Egito: Meu espírito está entre vocês. Não tenham medo”.

The word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt and my Spirit is in the midst of you: do not fear.

6 A ssim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Dentro de pouco tempo farei tremer o céu, a terra, o mar e o continente.

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Yet even once, and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land;

7 F arei tremer todas as nações, as quais trarão para cá os seus tesouros, e encherei este templo de glória”, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos.

and I will shake all the Gentiles; and the desire of all the Gentiles shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, said the LORD of the hosts.

8 “ Tanto a prata quanto o ouro me pertencem”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, said the LORD of the hosts.

9 “ A glória deste novo templo será maior do que a do antigo”, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. “E neste lugar estabelecerei a paz”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos. Promessa de Bênçãos

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, said the LORD of the hosts, and in this place I will give peace, said the LORD of the hosts.

10 N o vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês, no segundo ano do reinado de Dario, a palavra do Senhor veio ao profeta Ageu:

¶ In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 A ssim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos: “Faça aos sacerdotes a seguinte pergunta sobre a Lei:

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

12 S e alguém levar carne consagrada na borda de suas vestes, e com elas tocar num pão, ou em algo cozido, ou em vinho, ou em azeite ou em qualquer comida, isso ficará consagrado?” Os sacerdotes responderam: “Não”.

If one bears holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt touches bread or pottage or wine, or oil or any food, shall it be made holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13 E m seguida perguntou Ageu: “Se alguém ficar impuro por tocar num cadáver e depois tocar em alguma dessas coisas, ela ficará impura?” “Sim”, responderam os sacerdotes, “ficará impura.”

Then Haggai said, If one that is unclean by a dead body touches any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14 A geu transmitiu esta resposta do Senhor: “É o que acontece com este povo e com esta nação. Tudo o que fazem e tudo o que me oferecem é impuro.

Then Haggai answered, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, said the LORD; and so is every work of their hands, and all that they offer here is unclean.

15 “ Agora prestem atenção; de hoje em diante reconsiderem. Em que condições vocês viviam antes que se colocasse pedra sobre pedra no templo do Senhor ?

And now, I pray you, consider in your heart from this day forth, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

16 Q uando alguém chegava a um monte de trigo procurando vinte medidas, havia apenas dez. Quando alguém ia ao depósito de vinho para tirar cinqüenta medidas, só encontrava vinte.

since these things were: when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the pressfat to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

17 E u destruí todo o trabalho das mãos de vocês, com mofo, ferrugem e granizo, mas vocês não se voltaram para mim”, declara o Senhor.

I smote you with the east wind and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands, yet ye did not turn to me, said the LORD.

18 “ A partir de hoje, vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês, atentem para o dia em que os fundamentos do templo do Senhor foram lançados. Reconsiderem:

Consider now in your heart from this day forth, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, put your heart into it.

19 a inda há alguma semente no celeiro? Até hoje a videira, a figueira, a romeira e a oliveira não têm dado fruto. Mas, de hoje em diante, abençoarei vocês.” As Promessas para Zorobabel

Is not the seed yet in the barn? Not even the vine, nor the fig tree, nor the pomegranate, nor the olive tree, has blossomed yet, but from this day will I bless you.

20 A palavra do Senhor veio a Ageu pela segunda vez, no vigésimo quarto dia do nono mês:

¶ And the word of the LORD came the second time unto Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

21 “ Diga a Zorobabel, governador de Judá, que eu farei tremer o céu e a terra.

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I cause the heavens and the earth to shake,

22 D errubarei tronos e destruirei o poder dos reinos estrangeiros. Virarei os carros e os seus condutores; os cavalos e os seus cavaleiros cairão, cada um pela espada do seu companheiro.

and I will overthrow the throne of the kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles, and I will overthrow the chariot and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, each one by the sword of his brother.

23 “ Naquele dia”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos, “eu o tomarei, meu servo Zorobabel, filho de Sealtiel”, declara o Senhor, “e farei de você um anel de selar, porque o tenho escolhido”, declara o Senhor dos Exércitos.

In that day, said the LORD of the hosts, I will take thee, O Zerubbabel, my slave, the son of Shealtiel, said the LORD, and will make thee as a signet ring; for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of the hosts.
