1 N el settimo mese, il ventunesimo giorno del mese, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta per mezzo del profeta Aggeo, dicendo:

¶ In the seventh month, in the twenty-first day of the month, the word of the LORD came by the hand of the prophet Haggai, saying,

2 « Parla ora a Zorobabel, figlio di Scealtiel, governatore di Giuda, e a Giosué, figlio di Jehotsadak, il sommo sacerdote, e al resto del popolo, dicendo:

Speak now to Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah and to Joshua the son of Josedech, the high priest, and to the remnant of the people, saying,

3 " Chi è rimasto fra voi che ha visto questo tempio nella sua precedente gloria? E come la vedete ora? A confronto di quella, non è questa un nulla ai vostri occhi?

Who is left among you that saw this house in her first glory? and how do ye see her now? Is she not as nothing before your eyes?

4 E ora sii forte, Zorobabel dice l'Eterno "Sii forte Giosuè, figlio di Jehotsadak il sommo sacerdote; sii forte, o popolo tutto del paese", dice l'Eterno, "e mettetevi al lavoro, perché io sono con voi", dice l'Eterno degli eserciti,

Yet now be strong, O Zerubbabel, said the LORD; and be strong, O Joshua, son of Josedech, the high priest; and be strong, all ye people of this land, said the LORD, and work; for I am with you, said the LORD of the hosts:

5 " Secondo la parola del patto che stabilii con voi quando usciste dall'Egitto, cosí il mio Spirito dimora in mezzo a voi. Non temete".

The word that I covenanted with you when ye came out of Egypt and my Spirit is in the midst of you: do not fear.

6 P oiché cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: "Ancora una volta, tra poco, io farò tremare i cieli e la terra, il mare e la terra asciutta;

For thus hath the LORD of the hosts said: Yet even once, and I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land;

7 f arò tremare tutte le nazioni; il desiderio di tutte le nazioni verrà e io riempirò questo tempio di gloria" dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

and I will shake all the Gentiles; and the desire of all the Gentiles shall come: and I will fill this house with glory, said the LORD of the hosts.

8 " Mio è l'argento e mio è l'oro" dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

The silver is mine, and the gold is mine, said the LORD of the hosts.

9 " La gloria di quest'ultimo tempio sarà piú grande di quella del precedente", dice l'Eterno degli eserciti; "e in questo luogo io darò la pace"», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

The glory of this latter house shall be greater than of the former, said the LORD of the hosts, and in this place I will give peace, said the LORD of the hosts.

10 N el ventiquattresimo giorno del nono mese, il secondo anno di Dario, la parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta per mezzo del profeta Aggeo, dicendo:

¶ In the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came by the hand of Haggai the prophet, saying,

11 « Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti: Interroga i sacerdoti riguardo alla legge, dicendo:

Thus hath the LORD of the hosts said; Ask now the priests concerning the law, saying,

12 " Se uno porta carne consacrata nel lembo della sua veste e con il lembo tocca pane o cibo cotto, vino o olio, o qualunque altro alimento, diventerà questo santificato?. I sacerdoti risposero e dissero: «No!».

If one bears holy flesh in the skirt of his garment, and with his skirt touches bread or pottage or wine, or oil or any food, shall it be made holy? And the priests answered and said, No.

13 A ggeo quindi disse loro: «Se uno che è impuro per il contatto di un cadavere, tocca una di queste cose, diventerà essa impura?». I sacerdoti risposero e dissero: «Sì, diventerà impura».

Then Haggai said, If one that is unclean by a dead body touches any of these, shall it be unclean? And the priests answered and said, It shall be unclean.

14 A llora Aggeo rispose e disse: «Cosí è questo popolo, cosí è questa nazione davanti a me», dice l'Eterno «e cosí è ogni lavoro delle loro mani, e ciò che là mi offrono è impuro.

Then Haggai answered, and said, So is this people, and so is this nation before me, said the LORD; and so is every work of their hands, and all that they offer here is unclean.

15 O ra considerate bene da questo giorno in avanti, prima che si mettesse pietra su pietra nel tempio dell'Eterno.

And now, I pray you, consider in your heart from this day forth, from before a stone was laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD:

16 D a quel tempo, quando uno veniva a un mucchio di venti misure ce n'erano solo dieci, quando uno veniva al tino per cavare dal tino cinquanta bati, ce n'erano solo venti.

since these things were: when one came to a heap of twenty measures, there were but ten; when one came to the pressfat to draw out fifty vessels out of the press, there were but twenty.

17 I o vi colpii con il carbonchio con la ruggine e con la grandine in ogni lavoro delle vostre mani, ma voi non tornaste a me», dice l'Eterno.

I smote you with the east wind and with mildew and with hail in all the labours of your hands, yet ye did not turn to me, said the LORD.

18 « Considerate bene da oggi in avanti, dal ventiquattresimo giorno del nono mese, dal giorno in cui si posero le fondamenta del tempio dell'Eterno. Considerate questo:

Consider now in your heart from this day forth, from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, even from the day that the foundation of the LORD’s temple was laid, put your heart into it.

19 c 'è ancora del grano nel granaio? La vite, il fico, il melograno e l'ulivo non hanno ancora dato frutto. Ma da questo giorno in poi, io vi benedirò».

Is not the seed yet in the barn? Not even the vine, nor the fig tree, nor the pomegranate, nor the olive tree, has blossomed yet, but from this day will I bless you.

20 L a parola dell'Eterno fu rivolta per la seconda volta ad Aggeo il ventiquattresimo giorno del mese, dicendo:

¶ And the word of the LORD came the second time unto Haggai in the twenty-fourth day of the month, saying,

21 « Parla a Zorobabel, governatore di Giuda, e digli: "Io farò tremare i cieli e la terra,

Speak to Zerubbabel, governor of Judah, saying, I cause the heavens and the earth to shake,

22 r ovescerò il trono dei regni e distruggerò la forza dei regni delle nazioni; rovescerò i carri e quelli che vi montano cadranno i cavalli e i loro cavalieri l'uno per la spada del suo fratello.

and I will overthrow the throne of the kingdoms, and I will destroy the strength of the kingdom of the Gentiles, and I will overthrow the chariot and those that ride in them; and the horses and their riders shall come down, each one by the sword of his brother.

23 I n quel giorno dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, io ti prenderò, o Zorobabel, figlio di Scealtiel, mio servo dice l'Eterno, "e ti porrò come un sigillo, perché io ti ho scelto"», dice l'Eterno degli eserciti.

In that day, said the LORD of the hosts, I will take thee, O Zerubbabel, my slave, the son of Shealtiel, said the LORD, and will make thee as a signet ring; for I have chosen thee, saith the LORD of the hosts.
