1 « Salmo di Asaf.» Certamente DIO è buono verso Israele, verso quelli che sono puri di cuore.

¶ Truly God is good to Israel, even to such as are pure in heart.

2 M a quanto a me, quasi inciampavano i miei piedi, e poco mancò che i miei passi sdrucciolassero.

But as for me, my feet almost departed from the way; my steps had almost slipped.

3 P oiché portavo invidia ai vanagloriosi, vedendo la prosperità dei malvagi.

For I became angry against the foolish when I saw the peace of the wicked.

4 P erché non vi sono dolori nella loro morte, e il loro corpo è pingue.

Because there is no restraint that would bring about their death, but their strength is firm.

5 E ssi non sono tribolati come gli altri mortali, né sono colpiti come gli altri uomini.

They are not in trouble as other men; neither are they plagued like other men.

6 P erciò la superbia li cinge come una collana e la violenza li avvolge come una veste.

Therefore they are crowned with pride; they cover themselves with violence as a garment.

7 I loro occhi escono fuori per il grasso e le immaginazioni perverse del loro cuore traboccano.

Their eyes stand out with fatness; they easily obtain the desires of their heart.

8 E ssi scherniscono e tremano perfidamente di opprimere, e parlano con arroganza.

They are lawless and speak wickedly of doing violence; they speak loftily.

9 D irigono la loro bocca contro il cielo, e la loro lingua percorre la terra.

They set their mouth against heaven, and their tongue walks through the earth.

10 P erciò la loro gente si volge da quella parte e beve copiosamente alle loro acque,

Therefore his people shall return here; and waters of a full cup are wrung out to them.

11 e dice: «Come è possibile che DIO sappia ogni cosa e che vi sia conoscenza nell'Altissimo?».

And they say, How does God know? and is there knowledge in the most High?

12 E cco, costoro sono empi, eppure essi sono sempre tranquilli ed accrescono le loro ricchezze.

Behold, these ungodly men, without being troubled by the world obtain riches.

13 I nvano dunque ho purificato il mio cuore e ho lavato le mie mani nell'innocenza.

Verily, in vain have I cleansed my heart and washed my hands in innocency

14 P oiché sono colpito tutto il giorno e castigato ogni mattina.

and been plagued all day long and chastened every morning:

15 S e avessi detto: «Parlerò anch'io cosí», ecco, avrei rinnegato la generazione dei tuoi figli.

¶ If I should say, I will speak as they do; behold, I should deny the generation of thy sons.

16 A llora ho cercato di comprendere questo, ma la cosa mi è parsa molto difficile.

I shall meditate that I might understand this; it is very hard for me to see.

17 F inché sono entrato nel santuario di DIO e ho considerato la fine di costoro.

When I come into the sanctuary of God, then I shall understand their end.

18 C erto, tu li metti in luoghi sdrucciolevoli e cosí li fai cadere in rovina.

Surely thou didst set them in slippery places; in desolation thou shalt cause them to fall.

19 C ome sono distrutti in un momento spazzati via consumati con improvvisi terrori!

How they are brought into desolation, as in a moment! They have come to an end; they are utterly consumed with terrors.

20 C ome un sogno al risveglio, cosí tu, o Signore, quando ti risveglierai, disprezzerai la loro vana apparenza.

As the dream of one who awakes; so, O Lord, when thou shalt rise up, thou shalt despise their appearances.

21 Q uando il mio cuore era inacerbito e mi sentivo trafitto internamente

¶ Truly my heart was grieved, and I was pricked in my kidneys.

22 i o ero insensato e senza intendimento; davanti a te ero come una bestia.

But I was ignorant and did not understand; I was as a beast before thee.

23 M a pure io sono sempre con te; tu mi hai preso per la mano destra.

Nevertheless I was continually with thee; thou hast apprehended me by my right hand.

24 T u mi guiderai col tuo consiglio e poi mi porterai nella gloria.

Thou hast guided me with thy counsel, and afterward thou shalt receive me unto glory.

25 C hi ho io in cielo fuor di te? E sulla terra io non desidero altri che te.

Whom have I in heaven but thee? And apart from thee there is nothing upon the earth that I desire.

26 L a mia carne e il mio cuore possono venir meno, ma DIO è la rocca del mio cuore e la mia parte in eterno.

My flesh and my heart fail; the strength of my heart is that God is my portion for ever.

27 P oiché ecco, quelli che si allontanano da te periranno; tu distruggi tutti quelli che, fornicando, si allontanano da te.

For, behold, those that stray from thee shall perish; thou dost cut off all those that go a whoring from thee.

28 M a quanto a me, il mio bene è di accostarmi a DIO, io ho fatto del Signore. dell'Eterno, il mio rifugio, per raccontare tutte le opere tue.

But as for me, to draw near to God is good; I have put my hope in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works.
