1 L a parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

2 « Figlio d'uomo, profetizza contro i profeti d'Israele che profetizzano e di' a quelli che profetizzano secondo il loro cuore: Ascoltate la parola dell'Eterno.

Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy and say unto those that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the LORD:

3 C osí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Guai ai profeti stolti che seguono il loro spirito senza aver visto nulla.

thus hath the Lord GOD said: Woe unto the foolish prophets that follow their own spirit and have seen nothing!

4 O Israele, i tuoi profeti sono stati come volpi nei deserti.

O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.

5 V oi non siete saliti sulle brecce né avete costruito alcun muro intorno alla casa d'Israele, per resistere nella battaglia nel giorno dell'Eterno.

Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the LORD.

6 H anno avuto visioni false e divinazioni bugiarde e dicono: "L'Eterno ha detto" mentre l'Eterno non li ha mandati. Tuttavia essi sperano che la loro parola si adempi.

They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The LORD saith: and the LORD has not sent them, and they have made others to wait for the word to be confirmed.

7 N on avete forse avuto visioni false e non avete proferito divinazioni bugiarde? Voi dite: "L'Eterno ha detto" ma io non ho parlato».

Have ye not seen a vain vision and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The LORD hath said it; albeit I have not spoken?

8 P erciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Poiché avete proferito falsità e avete avuto visioni bugiarde, eccomi contro di voi», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies; therefore, behold, I am against you, said the Lord GOD.

9 « La mia mano sarà contro i profeti che hanno visioni false e proferiscono divinazioni bugiarde. Essi non faranno piú parte al consiglio del mio popolo, non saranno piú scritti nel registro della casa d'Israele e non entreranno nel paese d'Israele; allora riconoscerete che io sono il Signore, l'Eterno.

And my hand shall be against the prophets that see vanity and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the book of the house of Israel, neither shall they return to the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord GOD.

10 P oiché, sí, poiché hanno fatto sviare il mio popolo, dicendo: "Pace" quando non c'è pace, e quando uno costruisce un muro, essi lo intonacano di malta che non regge,

¶ Therefore and because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up the wall, and, behold, others plastered it with loose mud:

11 d i' a quelli che lo intonacano di malta che non regge, che esso cadrà: Verrà una pioggia scrosciante e voi, o pietre di grandine, cadrete; si scatenerà un vento tempestoso.

say unto those who plaster it with loose mud, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing rain; and I shall send great hailstones that will cause it to fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.

12 e d ecco, quando il muro cadrà, non vi si dirà forse: "Dov'è la malta con cui l'avevate intonacato?"».

And behold, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the mud with which ye have plastered it?

13 P erciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Nel mio furore farò scatenare un vento tempestoso, nella mia ira farò cadere una pioggia scrosciante e nel mio furore delle pietre di grandine per un completo sterminio.

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: I will cause a stormy wind to rend it in my fury; and there shall come an overflowing rain in my anger and great hailstones in my wrath to consume it.

14 C osí demolirò il muro che avete intonacato con malta che non regge, lo rovescerò a terra, e le sue fondamenta saranno scoperte, esso cadrà e voi sarete distrutti insieme ad esso, allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno.

So I will break down the wall that ye have plastered with loose mud and bring it down to the ground, and its foundation shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

15 C osí sfogherò il mio furore sul muro e su quelli che l'hanno intonacato di malta che non regge; e vi dirò: il muro non c'è piú e neppure quelli che lo intonacavano,

Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall and upon those that have plastered it with loose mud and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither those that plastered it;

16 c ioè i profeti d'Israele che profetizzavano su Gerusalemme e avevano per essa visioni di pace, mentre non c'èra pace"», dice il Signore, l'Eterno.

to wit, the prophets of Israel who prophesy concerning Jerusalem and who see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, said the Lord GOD.

17 « Ora tu, figlio d'uomo, volgi la faccia verso le figlie del tuo popolo che profetizzano secondo il loro cuore e profetizza contro di loro.

¶ Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, who prophesy out of their own heart; prophesy thou against them,

18 e di' Cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: Guai alle donne che cuciono fasce a tutti i polsi e fanno veli per le teste di ogni altezza per dar la caccia alle anime. Credete voi di dar la caccia alle anime del mio popolo e salvare le vostre vite?

And say, Thus hath the Lord GOD said; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Must ye hunt the souls of my people to maintain thus your own life?

19 V oi mi profanate in mezzo al mio popolo per delle manciate d'orzo e per dei pezzi di pane, facendo morire anime che non dovrebbero morire e facendo vivere anime che non dovrebbero vivere, mentendo al mio popolo, che dà ascolto alle menzogne».

And will ye profane me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, slaying the souls that should not die and giving life to the souls that should not live, by your lying to my people that listen to the lie?

20 P erciò cosí dice il Signore, l'Eterno: «Ecco, io sono contro le vostre fasce con le quali date la caccia alle anime come a uccelli; le strapperò dalle vostre braccia e metterò in libertà le anime, quelle anime alle quali date la caccia come a uccelli.

Therefore thus hath the Lord GOD said; Behold, I am against your pillows, with which ye hunt there the loose souls, and I will tear them from your arms and will let the souls go, even the loose souls that ye hunt.

21 S trapperò pure i vostri veli e libererò il mio popolo dalle vostre mani, ed essi non saranno piú come preda nelle vostre mani, allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno.

Your kerchiefs also I will tear and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall no longer be in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.

22 I nfatti avete rattristato il cuore del giusto con menzogne, quando io non lo rattristavo, e avete fortificato le mani dell'empio, perché non si convertisse dalla sua via malvagia per rimanere in vita.

Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and ye strengthen the hands of the wicked that he should not leave his wicked way, encouraging him:

23 P erciò non avrete piú visioni false e non praticherete piú la divinazione, e io libererò il mio popolo dalle vostre mani; allora riconoscerete che io sono l'Eterno».

therefore ye shall not see vanity, nor divine divinations any longer: for I will deliver my people out of your hand; and ye shall know that I am the LORD.
