¶ Now these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom.

and Bashemath, Ishmael’s daughter, sister of Nebajoth.

4 A da partorì ad Esaú, Elifaz;

And Adah bore to Esau Eliphaz, and Bashemath bore Reuel,

5 B asemath partorì Reuel; e Oholibamah partorì Jeush, Jalam e Korah. Questi sono i figli di Esaú che gli nacquero nel paese di Canaan.

and Aholibamah bore Jeush and Jaalam and Korah: these are the sons of Esau, who were born unto him in the land of Canaan.

6 P oi Esaú prese le sue mogli, i suoi figli, le sue figlie, tutte le persone della sua casa, le sue greggi, tutto il suo bestiame e tutti i suoi beni che aveva acquistato nel paese di Canaan, e se ne andò in un paese, lontano da Giacobbe suo fratello,

And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all the persons of his house and his cattle and all his beasts and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan, and went into another country from the face of his brother Jacob.

7 p oiché i loro possedimenti erano troppo grandi perché essi potessero dimorare assieme; il paese nel quale soggiornavano non era in grado di sostenerli, a motivo del loro bestiame.

For their riches were more than that they might dwell together, and the land in which they were strangers could not bear them because of their livestock.

8 C osì Esaú si stabilì sulla montagna di Seir; Esaú a Edom.

Thus dwelt Esau in Mount Seir; Esau is Edom.

¶ And these are the lineages of Esau, the father of the Edomites in Mount Seir.

10 Q uesti sono i nomi dei figli di Esaú: Elifaz, figlio di Ada, moglie di Esaú; Reuel, figlio di Basemath, moglie di Esaú.

These are the names of Esau’s sons: Eliphaz, the son of Adah, the wife of Esau; Reuel, the son of Bashemath, the wife of Esau.

11 I figli di Elifaz furono: Teman, Omar, Tsefo, Gatam e Kenaz.

And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, Gatam, and Kenaz.

12 O r Timna era la concubina di Elifaz, figlio di Esaú; ella partorì ad Elifaz, Amalek. Questi furono i figli di Ada, moglie di Esaú.

And Timna was concubine to Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore to Eliphaz Amalek: these are the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife.

13 Q uesti furono i figli di Reuel: Nahath e Zerah, Shammah e Mizzah. Questi furono i figli di Basemath, moglie di Esaú.

And these are the sons of Reuel: Nahath, Zerah, Shammah, and Mizzah; these were the sons of Bashemath, Esau’s wife.

14 Q uesti furono i figli di Oholibamah, figlia di Anah, figlia di Tsibeon, moglie di Esaú; ella partorì a Esaú: Jeush, Jalam e Korah.

And these were the sons of Aholibamah, the daughter of Anah, the daughter of Zibeon, Esau’s wife: she gave birth unto Esau Jeush, Jaalam, and Korah.

And these are the sons of Reuel, Esau’s son; duke Nahath, duke Zerah, duke Shammah, duke Mizzah: these are the dukes that came of Reuel in the land of Edom; these are the sons of Bashemath Esau’s wife.

18 Q uesti furono i figli di Oholibamah, moglie di Esaú; il capo Jeush, il capo Jalam e il capo Korah; essi furono i capi discesi da Oholibamah, figlia di Anah, moglie di Esaú.

And these are the sons of Aholibamah, Esau’s wife: duke Jeush, duke Jaalam, duke Korah; these were the dukes that came of Aholibamah the daughter of Anah, Esau’s wife.

19 Q uesti furono i figli di Esaú, che è Edom, e questi furono i loro capi.

These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes.

20 Q uesti furono i figli di Seir, lo Horeo, che abitavano il paese: Lotan, Shobal, Tsibeon, Anah,

¶ These are the sons of Seir, the Horite, who inhabited the land: Lotan, Shobal, Zibeon, Anah,

21 D ishon, Etser e Dishan. Questi, furono i capi degli Horei, figli di Seir, nel paese di Edom.

Dishon, Ezer, and Dishan; these are the dukes of the Horites, the sons of Seir in the land of Edom.

22 I figli di Lotan furono: Hori e Hemam; e la sorella di Lotan fu Timna.

And the sons of Lotan were Hori and Hemam, and Lotan’s sister was Timna.

23 Q uesti furono i figli di Shobal: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Scefo e Onam.

And the sons of Shobal were these: Alvan, Manahath, Ebal, Shepho, and Onam.

24 Q uesti furono i figli di Tsibeon: Aja e Anah. Questo è l'Anah che trovò le acque calde nel deserto, mentre pascolava gli asini di Tsibeon suo padre.

These are the dukes that came of the Horites: duke Lotan, duke Shobal, duke Zibeon, duke Anah,

¶ And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before any king reigned over the sons of Israel.

32 B ela, figlio di Beor, regnò in Edom, e il nome della sua città fu Dinhabah.

And Bela, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of his city was Dinhabah.

33 B ela morì, e al suo posto regnò Jobab, figlio di Zerah, da Botsrah.

And Bela died, and Jobab, the son of Zerah of Bozrah, reigned in his stead.

34 J obab morì, e al suo posto regnò Husham, del paese dei Temaniti.

And Jobab died, and Husham of the land of Temani reigned in his stead.

35 H usham morì, e al suo posto regnò Hadad, figlio di Bedad, che sconfisse i Madianiti nei campi di Moab; e il nome della sua città fu Avith.

And Husham died, and Hadad, the son of Bedad, who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Avith.

36 H adad morì, e al suo posto regnò Samlah, da Masrekah.

And Hadad died, and Samlah of Masrekah reigned in his stead.

37 S amlah morì, e al suo posto regnò Saul di Rehoboth sul Fiume.

And Samlah died, and Saul of Rehoboth by the river reigned in his stead.

38 S aul morì, e al suo posto regnò Baal-Hanan, figlio di Akbor.

And Saul died, and Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, reigned in his stead.

39 B aal-Hanan, figlio di Akbor, morì e al suo posto regnò Hadar. Il nome della sua città fu Pau, e il nome di sua moglie, Mehetabel, figlia di Matred, figlia di Mezahab.

And Baalhanan, the son of Achbor, died, and Hadar reigned in his stead; and the name of his city was Pau; and his wife’s name was Mehetabel, the daughter of Matred, the daughter of Mezahab.

40 Q uesti furono i nomi dei capi di Esaú, secondo le loro famiglie, secondo i loro territori, coi loro nomi: il capo Timnah, il capo Alvah, il capo Jetheth,

And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places, by their names: duke Timnah, duke Alvah, duke Jetheth,

41 I l capo Oholibamah, il capo Elah, il capo Pinon,

duke Aholibamah, duke Elah, duke Pinon,

42 i l capo Kenaz, il capo Teman, il capo Mibtsar,

duke Kenaz, duke Teman, duke Mibzar,

43 i l capo Magdiel e il capo Iram. Questi furono i capi di Edom secondo le loro dimore, nel paese che possedevano. Questi fu Esaú, il padre degli Edomiti.

duke Magdiel, duke Iram: these were the dukes of Edom, according to their habitations in the land of their possession. This is the Esau, the father of Edom.
